Beginner's Guide to Malenia: Lesson 04 - Waterfowl Dance

Ойындар

I'm so sorry this took as long as it did. I didn't want to delay any further so I pushed myself to finish the edit while in bed. Next lesson onwards will be about phase two. Okay, back to resting.

Shield blocking waterfowl will never stop feeling good, and the heal she gets back is usually one or two heavies for not losing the entire run. Unrelated to WFD but one thing I've found out about the jumping thrust is that if you block instead of dodge you can get a guard counter. The problem with this is that I haven't tested if it's dependent on her distance from you. When I did it I was more that a spear's length away and I can see her still flying past you if you're too close

You can definitely block (even at point-blank) and counter the jumping thrust. I did it in the past but I stopped because she heals a considerably chunk of health on contact. So unless you are able to quickly take back the health, it's not a good idea to block it.

I think the most reliable way is to circle around her and watch her go flying to kill where she thinks you are because now she remembers she's blind If I swap too quickly it just spams light attacks when I switch to not be 2 handing my main weapon to do barricade shield and it feels so gosh diddly darn finicky Also just wanted to say that one time I managed to perfectly dodge a close range waterfoul stuck between malenia and the wall with seemingly nowhere to go. The host died half a second later.

I think you're overestimating the skill level of the average player and newcomer to these games. This is a beginner's guide so utilising the most basic forms of movement or mechanics that requires the least amount of input helps build familiarity and gives players a simpler foundation to build on. What you're alluding to requires a vast amount of dexterity and hand-to-eye coordination that most people aren't capable and/or requires a lot of legacy skill to perform. That's the problem with a lot of guides and advice I've seen since the beginning: folks needs to start approaching advice from a perspective that's not your own because you're not the one that's struggling. Even for me, I have physical and mental limitations that prevent me from circling WFD and isn't really a "skill issue".

I would include using vow of the indomitable ash of war on the shield so you don’t have to worry about not having enough stamina to block. It allows you to play more aggressive and not have to worry about having enough stamina to block.

Yes, absolutely. Vow is also perfect here but I forgot to add that into the video. :X
