Yeah. I picked up a guitar for the first time yesterday and I'm already making decent songs for an absolute beginner. I played drums as a teen but gave up. That's all the music experience I have and I think I sound ok for some 6 or 7 hours total of practice on my life - thanks to this guy. But God my fingers hurt. They are numb on the tips and I'm scared it's permanent damage... because I have blood circulation problems and I can't feel anything on the tips of my fret fingers. Even when I woke up this morning after hours of rest, they was completely numb. But I refuse to give up even if it means flooding the nerves in my finger tips.

Also it's not KZread that is making the ads, it's another website that wants you to leave KZread and learn on their website so they can charge you or get ad revenue. KZread if anything wants you to stay here.

Nick Serritella I’ve only been at it for 1 week. I forget it’s gonna take time. Like I’m sometimes getting the buzzing sound and get annoyed lol
I’d like to think I’m ‘Intermediate’ I know a variety of chords, a few scales and arpeggios...but just left my learning at that, I got frustrated when people around me could play the same chords and scales as me but just apply it in such a better way, I couldn’t understand why. I’ve been watching through these videos and what I’ve been missing is really understand what them simple chords are and what they do. TECHNIQUE is key here and this guy right here is teaching it perfectly. Even though I can play all of these I’m still watching these videos all the way through. His enthusiasm, just after explaining the D chord “I know you’re gonna love it” just shows how much he wants you to apply the things he’s taught already. Subbed!
I love how you show examples of songs that contain the chords we already learnt, helps a lot with getting a perception of how the switching between chords work and also is very encouraging to keep practicing :)
This is just cracking me up, I feel like a little kid every time I do something and it works. Thanks for these videos, I feel like I’m really making a lot of progress faster than I could have imagined

I must say..This is technically only my 2nd day attempting to properly learn the guitar better than just a few power chords like when I was a teenager. It sometimes feels impossible to learn to play the guitar later in life, but your videos have helped me understand the foundation of guitar playing. I am actually learning chords, and notes rather than just playing what sounds like "smoke on the water" by ear. Your videos are an amazing tool for anybody wanting to learn the guitar the right way in a not-boring way. Thank you, Marty!

Without doubt, hands down MARTY you’re truly a Guitar Teacher! I’ve paid good money for lessons back in 2012 after 10 months I can honestly say I was getting nowhere. Frustration set in and my guitar became a dust collector. THEN I stumbled upon your teaching series and I watched and listened to your first 2 lessons. I was overcome with a sense of excitement and out came the dust rag an Finally I was having fun learning the guitar for the first time! Thank you Marty, thank you so much. Can you make a vid on Loggins & Messina’s “Danny’s Song?”
Im still practicing the G chord and the transitions to A chord and Em, but I'm so pumped up that I want to watch more! A big thank you Marty!
These lessons are great Marty! I learnt with your help a few years ago and I've just started to teach to a super keen 8 year old. These lessons are helping me plan mine so you're helping me out again! Thanks mate!
Dude out of all the people on KZread that teach guitar you have been by far the most helpful, I’ve always wanted to learn how to play my parents put me in guitar lessons when I was in middle school but it didn’t stick and the reason why was because of something you pointed out at the beginning of this lesson they tried teaching me Mary had a little lamb and wish you a merry Christmas what young teenager wants to learn that right so I gave up on it but throughout my whole life I’ve always admired people that could play. Anyway about a month ago my wife bought me a acoustic guitar and I started looking at lessons on KZread I came across you and I haven’t listened to anyone else since then. I’m 41 years old and because of you I can now play hundreds of my favorite songs I grew up listening to and I just wanted to say thank you I’m far from a pro but just learning those basic G, C, E, D, F, A cords some may be minor or major but either way my point is you have brought happiness back into my life at one of my lowest points of my life and being able to play songs like sweet home Alabama and It’s been A while for example that has brought so much happiness and joy back in my life and I owe that to you. Thank you so much Marty music please don’t ever stop doing what you do!
This guy teaches everything slowly and helpfully and adds humor. What more can you ask!!
I teach a large media class at a university. When I asked if anyone could give an example of using social media for information purposes, a kid, said, "Marty Schwartz' guitar lessons." I said, "Right on! Me too." It was awesome. (I'm an old guy.)

Marty, you a probably THE best teacher for beginners out there. I’ve had my guitar for years sitting in a case and I finally picked it up and in just a few days I’m having a blast and learning a lot thanks to you!!
Hey. My wife and I have had guitars for over 20 years now. I kick ass mary had a littlle lamb and skip to my lou. Every time I picked it up again thats as far as I got. This year. 2021. I told my wife we either do this or fet rid of our like new guitars. Luckily we found your videos. Are fingers are sore and we are probably slower than most but not giving up. Only on lesson four but we start from lesson 1 and now 2 each time but we are quickly getting better. Tonight we played for 50 minutes and tried playing without looking. Lol. Almost. Your style of teaching is great and we really appreciate it. We plan to surprise our family once the covid is over. Thanks again. Norm and Janice
Put my guitar down for 6 years. Marty inspired me to pick it up again. Glad I did!

Great teacher. I just started and feel like I've played before because of you, much appreciated🙏🏼
The first words you said kinda hit me. When I was 8 years old my mum used to play guitar (in a boring German church choir) and she put me into guitar lessons where had to do those string picking exercises (almost as boring as the church choir) I hated it so much that once I didn't go and went to play video games with a friend instead. When my mum found out, she disappointedly took me out of the lessons. Anyways I actually started loving guitar music shortly after it. My first album ever owned was Green Day's Dookie (hot new sh** by then) and I loved music ever since. Oddly enough It took me 28 years (and a loooot of lifetime spent on video games) until I decided to start learning guitar. I am 4 months in now and can play the first songs - also thanks to you Marty. Last month I played my mum her favorite German happy birthday song for her 65th birthday. There were some tears involved. It was great.
Excellent instruction! THANK YOU!
Thanks Marty ! Thanks you !!! This session are amazing! Looks like I am playing guitar finally 😊

50 years old and I`m hooked. Finally. Thank you Marty.

Hey Marty, Appreciate it. I just started playing guitar about 3 days ago since I'm deployed, and have been learning extremely fast. Only issue is I can't really strum the guitar well, but I'm sure it just takes practice

Can you come to my house to play the guitar cheers matey thank you
Anyone else struggling with the D chord. I placed my fingers in the correct frets and chords but the string won’t vibrate, as if I’m pressing on the chords extremely hard but I’m not. Any tips?

it's not purely about pushing as hard as you can, make sure that your fingers aren't touching the neighboring strings or it will absorb the the vibrations and mute the sound.

Benji Bat thanks it’s still kinda pretty hard because my fingers are a little wide and once I readjust, a different finger touches another chord

Press high e really hard, it helps
Marty - I just want to tell you how much you have helped me. I am truly in the beginning stages and keep redoing these basic acoustics. There are 1,000s of lessons out there but you literally resonate with me on these early lessons! I think it is your patient demeanor. These are old now and I subscribe to your latest (your legendary now lol) but truly the Beginner Acoustic Series are so helpful! Thank you so much!
So I am 38 and trying to learn for the past 4 years but without having having a proper routine it feels like it has taken me even longer because I was only looking at tabs for songs without looking at how to actually learn the chords (you know running before walking) then I find Marty Schwartz. And in 6 Weeks and going over each lesson twice every week I have come on so much. If I am honest D major is now my biggest challenge. No matter how hard I try my ring finger always touches the bottom E. But thanks to Marty I am more resilient to keep at it.
My fingers r not hurting as much now
Hi Marty great beginners lessons your doing here.... If you don't mind I'd like to offer a little tip I have found useful for me....I'm 58 and suffer from arthritis and I find some chords I cant finger them in the traditional shapes anymore and the D is one of them. What I end up doing and it works perfectly for me is , with my thumb on the back of the neck I then barre with my index finger only the G, B and high E strings on the second fret and my ring finger on the B string 3rd fret...... some people with odd shaped hands or not as nimble as we used to be may find it helps.

Ha, perfect! I was having a hard time with this one, trying to get my fat little sausages in there without hitting the D string, but your technique works great! Thanks!

lynn liggins Great tip - my problem is G. My teeny hands won’t reach down the frets on the Brute (my guitar’s name).
Never bore of you Marty! Good to see you're still around - I remember watching your super old videos from back in the day when I started learning guitar. Back again and made more progress in the last 4 days than I made in the last 2 years hahaha. You're a blessing mate!
Thanks for literally every lesson I have ever taken and will take.
Whenever I play the D major chord and strum the high E string a really blunt noise comes out and the string doesn't vibrate. Does anyone know why?
