This is one of the clearest tutorials ever!
I want to thank you so so so much for such clear instructions!!! I’ve watched many crochet videos where the teacher does not stop, zoom in, slow down to show you what they’re talking about and you just kind of have to guess, “Errr.. I think they mean to stitch through this whole??” As a beginner, I’m not familiar with crocheting terminology, so this helps a whole lot!! Thank you so much! ♥️
The sewing machine way to install the zipper sounds much easier. Looking forward to seeing it! Thanks Melanie. I love your video tutorials, you really take your time to explain things. I am new to crochet and really appreciate these videos!
I'm so excited!! I saw a simple crocheted bag earlier in the spring and it was about $400! Ha! Now I have the "how to" to do it myself for the cost of the yarn and my time (I'll just extend my rectangle). I'd appreciate the sewing machine instructions. Love it
I made this today to coordinate with the crocheted bag I just finished. Gray yarn with a red zipper and red flannel lining. Great directions! Thank you. I have never put a zipper in anything, but now I can do it. Thank you!
When I search for a tutorial and get suggested a video my sweet Melanie makes me so happy. Her light shines on ☀
By far my favorite piece of craft....the love of crochet and sewing. Love love it.
Thanks for making and posting this video, Melanie. I cannot locate the zipper foot for my sewing machine, so have been wanting to know how to hand-insert a zipper onto a pouch. I think doing the inner lining first would be easier too, as you mention. I would make the crocheted part a bit *smaller* than the zipper, because the crocheted piece will be stretchy, while the zipper will not stretch. I never considered doing a crocheted outer bag -- great idea! Really enjoy your YT videos. ~Diana from Toronto
Looks like there are a bunch of you already interested in the sewing machine version as well! I will get started on that!

Melanie Ham I've had family members ask me to line crotchet items they made. Super fiddly and hard for a beginner so I'm looking forward to this for help in the future! 😄

I would love to see the machine version as well. I have never tried sewing over crochet and am intrigued to see how that works. Thanks!
Thank you very much for showing all of us how to crochet. I will highly recommend this video to my friends and others how want to learn this :3. And your voice is so soft and light 😺 With love- Bella
Another awesome tutorial Melanie! I think I'll make one for my kids after I finish making arugami pencils to attach to their bookbags.
you're seriously such a great teacher! thank you so much for sharing
Without sewing machine zipper the pouch is very perfection. Thank you very much.
Yes I want to see the sewing machine version please😊 When I make my bags I sew them by hand & it's the most tedious thing to do but I still enjoy doing it
This is super cute! I'm not that great with my sewing machine so I assume this would be good practice. I definitely need to make one for my hooks.
Very cute! I love it! I've tried to crochet before but couldn't ever get it right. I'm better with watching videos instead of looking at pics in a book. I might have to try again here soon. Thanks for the video. Would love to see the sewing machine way too.
Where have you been all my life lol! Wish I had watched this before stumbling through my current project!
I think this is really cool especially for back to school. I really enjoy your videos
It's amazing to me how human beings came up with this! I have never crocheted in my life and don't plan to but watching this is absolutely mind blowing! You are very talented
I love your videos, so easy to follow along and ive learned so much from you. Thank you!
This is great. I love this video i dont even know why. Maybe it’s your voice, or maybe it’s just the spontaneity of you, or maybe you’re just awesome. Thanks for this video though. It’s great.
Thanks so much Melanie! I am stuck in a hotel for a couple of days and love the alone time, so I brought tons of yarn and after seeing this easy project, I ran to the local Michaels and Wal-Mart for the zippers, thread and material to finish a couple of these. Just completed the first one and it was not nearly as time consuming as I had thought it would be. LOVE this item and will be adding it to my Easy store and giving them away for Christmas! XO!

How many chain stitches were there to match the length of the zipper? We are in lockdown and I can't go out to get the zipper.
Thanks for the video, Melanie! I have a bag I crocheted years ago that I still have to line. I would be very interested in a sewing machine version. Thanks again!
I miss you Melanie and your amazing tutourials ❤️

Hi Melanie, love all your work and video tutorials. I would love to see the sewing machine version of this video! Blessings from Pennsylvania.
Love it! I like the use of the pointer. I would like to see you use the sewing machine please! Another great video.
What a cute little pouch, Melanie! Thank you!! Could you show us the sewing machine version please?? Carolina xx
Love it! I would like to see how you do this with the sewing machine...thanks.
NICE VIDEO. Using hand stitching while in fron of the TV or computer screen made it fast Although slower, hand stitching required no edging, but with machine, one can pick up outside sts and crochet a pico or scalloped edge if you like. In my case, I just added a lining for a crocheted project rectangle intended for something else. Still even though it was pretty easy to figure a machine way, but your demo ability makes one excited to see THIS, when it comes out. LOVE YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS!!!
Love this! I'm excited to try it!
I have a sewing machine. That video would be great. I enjoy your videos. Thanks
this was done is 2017- but thanks so much! #2019 Subscribed to you this helped so much.

great video and so helpful!!! thank you
thank you madam I want to ask you that what ply yarn you are using and which number crochet niddles you are using for purse.
This is helpful. I don't have a sewing machine so I will be sewing my lining and zipper in by hand.
Love it..think I'm gonna use mine for a crochet hook case
Will this work for a pillow case? I have two inserts and I want to be able to cover them with whatever I make!
What do you think about turning the work inside out to sew the zipper in. In your experience do you think that would be easier? Definitely interested in the sewing machine tutorial!
I love this little pouch! Can you please show how you would do it with a sewing machine. Thanks!
Love this thank you. Just one question how many inches is the zipper you used ?
Thanks for a great tutorial. I'd like it if you went slower showing us where to insert the crochet needle into the loop--I always have trouble working out where to insert it! Loved the fact you finished it off with lining too. I'd love to see the sewing machine version too. Thanks again x
That is really cool! I was wondering how you sew crochet to meterial
I’m going to try it right now thank you ❤️
Do you sew the zipper just to the folded part of the fabric or all the way threw
Hi Melanie l like your granny square mug cozy I am making one of your I learn a lot of your tut
tyvm i enjoyed this, something i can work with my grand daughter on
Yes, great video. I would like to know the sewing machine version. Does the video exist? Many thanks
Amo seu trabalho em croche, coloque a legenda em portugues Brasil, não entendo a sua linguagem, você está de parabéns.
Can you please show me how to use a round loom to make a scarf and a sweater please I love the way you explain things!!!
What fabric would you use I’m new to bag making
Keep doing this type of videos for us
I'd love to see the machine sewn version of the end of this project if it's not too much trouble, thanks. :)
Very Nice! Do you think the finished product would be machine washable on delicate (as long as the yarn was machine washable) or do you think there might be too much shrinking/stretching?
I just think you have the prettiest hands. I have always admired them. I know that's weird, but I just thought you should know how pretty your hands are! 😊
Wao your method is so easy very nice i teach it thankyou
Hi yes I'm a beginner and I would like to see sewing machine way. Can you put snaps on this? Noticed that there isn't anything that has a snap closure is it possible thank you for the video it was great watching you do a great job
I crochet directly onto the zippers. But I think I’ll try hand sewing a lining in after-the-fact with embroidery thread. Thanks for the inspiration!
This is a great tutorial (as always!) I'm interested in the sewing machine one but can't see it on the page. Did you manage to do one? :)
What type the you work i had only yarn from ship
I'm curious if you could make two crochet panels and us that as you would a regular zippered pouch but crochet the sides and bottom together after you attach the zip.... all I know is I need to make one....or ten!!! Would love to see you use a sewing machine to add the zip too!!! Thank you for your videos!!!!
Hey which hook is used for making knots??
I'm still new to this.. I means crocheting.. May i know what size of zipper did you use? And what is the proper or usual size of zipper that commonly used for making a pouch?
Thanks, love this w/o the machine
Yes to seeing machine... this is awesome
Hey where can we get that lining?
Would Love to see the sewing machine version!! ❤️
Great video!
After watching whole bunch of crochet clutch. This one is anyday most easy to work on

I want to see sewing machine too! I love your videos. I can knit and crochet but I don't know how to read a pattern so I can knit or crochet a square to cover my house but I can't make it in to anything. NOW I CAN!!!

elizabeth mims there are crochet videos that show you step by step how to read a pattern. Then you can use sites i.e. Ravelry, lionbrand, red heart and more to push yourself with new projects. That's what I did when I first started crocheting and wanted to learn how to read a pattern.
I needed visuals for how to hand sew the inner fabric to the zipper and to my crochet bag that I'd already made. Time stamp for this begins at 15:08 for anyone else looking for this in particular. I couldn't find it in other videos, as they often sew the zipper directly to the crochet bag, or use a sewing machine to sew in the zipper with the inner fabric. Thank you for the directions. I unfortunately made the inner fabric match up too closely to the zipper in one part, which made the zipper not run smoothly, so I had to do some surgery to make it work properly.
I have made these before, but when I slip stitch the sides I turn the bag inside out to hide the row of slip stitches.
Did you use a cotton or acrylic yarn.
I would love to see the sewing machine way
