Another EXCELLENT video. Lots of info. Must watch several times if you're new to the the sport. I agree with you 100% with regards to the the flaring and tucking. In 2006 I tore the belly of my left pec (fascia and a little of my bicep) and was weak for a very long time...I did not even attempt to bench for over 5 months and it took me several years to gain confidence to go heavy again. Fast forward to today, I'm still conscience of my tear and have tried many different ways of benching to alleviate part of that weakness due to the tear. That said, what I discovered not too long ago was exactly what you said, I widened my grip with shoulders tucked back and down but did NOT focus on tucking my elbows so much and went for a higher touch point (right below nipple level) with a slight cock back to my wrist and man the weight I used to struggle with, flew up! ( I watched a lot of Jen Thompson videos ..jajaja). Thanks again for all the great info.

Awesome video. Have been benching for a year now and recently hit a plateaux, have always felt my front delts were doing too much and now I know why, looking forward to testing out some new positions. Thanks man

Great work B. I definitely have short stalky arms and I'm tri dominant so I have a medium/narrow grip.

This Video is gold Brendan! I have Long arms but somehow I always end up over tucking my elbows despite trying not to. Any advice or cues to help me fix that? Thanks!

Awesome video. I always found a wider grip more comfortable and easier but was warned against shoulder impingement. Maybe I'm more pec dominant. Thanks!

on my max benchpress of 180 kg (long arms) I don't even feel my pecks but my deltoids are beyond their limit so I might try the wider grip which feels kinda akward though bc of the lateral force output..and also keep the elbows less tucked (45° before)

What if I'm limb dominant, but have a lagging chest? I want to grow my chest from benching but also be stronger

I have longer arms. But produce more strength with closer grip (thumb width from knurling) stick with that or try to work on wider grip

  • @louderthangod

Le Bumbcrack I’m similar. I’ve definitely had more success with a slightly narrower grip. For me it helps my overly mobile and unstable shoulders and my triceps are strong so it works out for health and strength. I guess as long as this grip isn’t straining something and is strong for you then to for it. There might be more movement with a narrow grip for long arms but it helps me to focus on tucking my scapula.

great video keep it up but I have a question if we look at the elbow and bar position from a side view should the elbow be directly under the bar or a little behind the bar is best for maximum strength, cause what ever I do my elbows tend to get behind the bar and never directly under it
