Also, can we be sure the natural DHT blockers like saw palmetto etc only work on the receptors and not systemic DHT levels? I spoke with you in 2016 over the phone and you were very helpful and I really appreciate that. I’m now back on the combination of oral finasteride 0.5mg /minoxidil 2mg a day. Starting to re-include saw palmetto, biotin, zinc etc.

    Hi William I am a female on HRT. I do not take estrogen(due to increased bleeding) just oral progesterone and testosterone injections biweekly. My scalp started getting acne a few days after each injection and then over the last few months my hairline has receded quite a bit and crown is shedding with a wider part and part at back below crown area. I went to dermatology. After the testosterone injections my scalp will get acne they gave ketonazole antifungal shampoo and clindamycin topical to “calm the scalp”. I asked about oral spironolactone and she refused and said it would cancel out the effects of HRT. She wanted to use compounded topical spironolactone(expensive). I called my HRT clinic and they gave me oral spironolactone 100mg/d. I have not yet started it. I have not used minoxidil either. I don’t know what to do. Should I not take the spironolactone and ask my clinic to decrease the testosterone(currently 50mg biweekly) or just stop the testosterone. Will my hair grow back if I take a lower dose? It seems obvious the testosterone dosage is too high or I just cannot tolerate it. Will it grow back if I stop the testosterone?

    I'm not ashamed to say that the hair thinning and loss was the result of menopause. It took me a while to make the connection because my hair would go through different transformations. Then the worst case of thinning and shedding set and my hairdresser asked me what was going on. It was so extreme that I wouldn't go to social events, only work at night. I've always been an inquisitive person and would never give up no matter what. I'm familiar with science and chemistry and that helped me. I stood in the mirror and looked at the condition of my hair and decided on a regimen. I make most of my products and I read labels for ingredients if store purchased. I definitely stayed away from hairdressers and mostly important for women of color is to choose healthy hair styles. I didn't want to be stressed during the process so I was relaxed and mindful of my hair condition. I have to admit that my first store bought item was a DHT blocker. After 6 weeks I saw result that made me cry.

    This is good data. It leaves room for choice, which is very important. I feel that we are just starting to scratch the surface when it comes to seeing the effects and efficacy of finasteride and long term DHT blocking. I've been around hair loss data on and off for near 25 years now and I believe long term Fin use is dangerous.

    Glad to see a professional doctor not just shoving Finasteride on us because it is such a brutal drug, more so the Dutasteride. I do have some questions though. 1. Can one use the full natural DHT blocking supplementation with DIM (which I understand will help prevent conversion of T to estrogen and block whatever DHT is converted from attaching to the receptors)? 2. If I use the natural DHT blockers with topical Finasteride am I likely to get side effects? 3. Is it possible to hold off the hairloss to the point where the gene is no longer active and it simply stops or remains at a baseline? Suppose the natural DHT blockers stop the process for say 10 years, will it resume suddenly 15 years later?

    Hello William, I’m reacting to this video because it is a very recent one and I hope you will see my question. I’ve been losing hair for about two years now, about 30% of my hair is gone. I’ve had an appointment with a dermatologist and after looking at my past/present and the medication I’m taking, she says that it’s telogenic affluvium. My blood is being checked to see if that can be the reason why. She said that my medication is most likely the cause. I have to use the meds unfortunately so I’m a bit scared that I’m going to lose more. Is this a condition where no new hair is growing back? And would the hair growth recover when the meds are stopped? In one of your videos you mention that hair doesn’t come back when a certain amount of time has passed. Is that also the case with telogenic affluvium? I love your videos and I’m learning a lot!

    How about Rosemary Oil? There is a study showing it works as effectively as Minoxidil. Your thoughts?

  • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist

    @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist

    4 ай бұрын

    While DHT blockers are a common treatment, exploring natural alternatives like rosemary oil can also be a valuable part of a hair care regimen. Studies have suggested that rosemary oil can stimulate hair growth and may be as effective as Minoxidil for some individuals, without the associated side effects. This is primarily attributed to its ability to improve blood circulation in the scalp, thus nourishing the hair follicles and promoting hair growth. However, it's important to note that results can vary from person to person, and what works well for one individual might not for another. Incorporating rosemary oil into your hair care routine can be done through direct scalp application, adding it to your shampoo, or using products that contain it as a key ingredient. As always, we recommend patch testing any new product or ingredient on a small area of your skin to ensure there's no adverse reaction. For personalized advice and to explore all your options for addressing hair loss, consider consulting with a hair growth specialist or trichologist who can offer tailored recommendations based on your specific situation and health history. Hi Dr. Guanitz, What is your opinion on doing 1 week on/1 week off of finasteride, in combination with the advanced DHT blocker, inorder to minimize side effects. Do u think that would be more effective than DHT blocker alone? And do u think that sort of dosing schedule would minimize longterm finasteride side effects? Thank you for making this content, and these evidence based products!

    Finasteride is a prescription medication, and its dosing and usage should be determined by a medical professional based on your specific condition, medical history, and the potential for side effects. Any changes in dosing or usage patterns should be discussed with your healthcare provider to ensure safety and effectiveness. That said, combining advanced DHT blockers with medical advice can be a part of a comprehensive approach to addressing hair loss. Many individuals find that using both pharmaceutical treatments and natural supplements can offer more comprehensive support for their hair health. However, it's essential to follow a healthcare provider's guidance for any prescription medication use and to report any side effects or concerns promptly. I can summarize. It's not that the natural DHT blockers only block DHT at the hair follicle, it's that natural DHT blockers are less potent and block less DHT than something like Finasteride. Finasteride will block almost all of your DHT, which is great for stopping hair loss but may come with side effects since your body needs DHT for other functions. A natural DHT blocker might only block like 40% of the DHT in your body which is much less than finasteride and it will improve your hair condition but won't come with side effects since your body still produces DHT for other functions. At the end of the day, it depends on the person. Some people only need smaller amount of DHT blocked for hair growth, which makes natural supplements better, but for others they need a lot more DHT blocked and for those people they need to use Finasteride since natural blockers aren't potent enough. I would say give natural product a chance and if after 6 months it doesnt work, switch to finasteride

    Hey doc, 22 yr old , O blood type, Vegetarian here Did my blood work in April Vitamin D3 14.3 ng/ml B12 180 pg/ml (Started supplementing Vitamin D 60000 IU weekly and a multivitamin called Follihair by Abbott since then as prescribed by my dermatologist) But still no improvement and my hair was losing its density and temples had started recede so recently my dermatologist prescribed me 5% tropical minoxidil But I am sceptical about using minoxidil, as I have to keep using it for ever afterwards. As I'm trying to address my hairloss in a natural way first and without going the pharmaceutical way in the beginning. So I started scalp massage to promote Blood flow to my scalp using head over skull method , (doing regularly twice a day since 2-3weeks now) but my hair fall got worse recently after starting scalp massages. It's falling out in clumps and is been worse since then. As far as my hair condition goes, i still have a head full of hair apart from less density since last year and a bit of receding hair line around temples What should I do?

    I am 35 and started to experience thinning hair when I was around 26. I was chronically sick at the time and took many antibiotics and steroids for about a 2 year period. I have gained 60+ pounds in the last 3 years and gone through multiple high stress events during the time. Now, more than ever, my hair has been significantly thinning on the top of my head and towards the back of my head. My part is very visible with my cowlick very noticeable on the top back section of my head, which makes it incredibly difficult to style my hair and feel professional. I recently started intermittent fasting for weight loss and been feeling better, but what can I do for my hair loss?! I got blood work done recently and there weren’t any concerns according to my doctor. Help!!

    Hi there! We're delighted to hear you're considering starting a treatment with the DHT Blocker we recommend. Regarding the duration of use, it's essential to understand that each individual's response can vary. Typically, it's advised to continue the treatment as long as it's effective and well-tolerated. As for the comparison with Minoxidil, DHT Blockers work differently. They target the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which is known to contribute to hair loss. While stopping Minoxidil might lead to renewed hair loss, the effects of discontinuing a DHT Blocker can be different. However, it's often observed that maintaining consistent treatment yields the best results. We always recommend consulting with a healthcare professional for personalized advice based on your specific situation. Does applying sunflower seed oil as a tropical DHT blocker works ?

  • @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist

    @WilliamGaunitzTrichologist

    8 ай бұрын

    Sunflower seed oil is not a proven DHT (dihydrotestosterone) blocker like some pharmaceutical medications or natural supplements, but it does offer potential benefits for hair health. While it may not directly block DHT, it can still be part of a holistic approach to promoting hair health for some individuals. Sunflower seed oil contains essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and nutrients that can nourish the scalp and hair follicles. It can help improve the overall condition of your hair, making it stronger and less prone to breakage. Healthy hair is less likely to fall out prematurely. While sunflower seed oil may not directly block DHT, it can contribute to a healthy scalp environment, which is essential for minimizing hair loss. It's generally safe and can be used as a natural conditioner or hair mask. For individuals concerned about hair loss related to DHT, they may consider a combination of natural DHT-blocking supplements and treatments, along with a healthy diet and lifestyle. However, it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or a trichologist to develop a tailored plan for your specific hair loss concerns.

    I don’t believe it blocks the DHT in anyway. Ketoconazole is an anti-fungal and it does show some anti-inflammatory capabilities. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25842469/ The conclusion is that the clinical study provided evidence of the effectiveness of rosemary oil in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (AGA). It showed that, after a 6-month period, rosemary oil was as effective as minoxidil 2% in promoting hair growth, with both groups experiencing a significant increase in hair count at the 6-month evaluation. While more research may be needed to confirm and further explore these findings, the study suggests that rosemary oil may be a viable option for individuals seeking a natural remedy for AGA. Thank you for providing the transcription. Here’s our response: Our DHT blocker is formulated with natural ingredients like saw palmetto, stinging nettle, and pumpkin seed oil, which are less likely to affect your lipid profile compared to pharmaceutical options like spironolactone. Regarding your seborrheic dermatitis, the pre/probiotics in our product are designed to support digestive health, which can help reduce inflammation rather than exacerbate it. As for shedding, while starting our DHT blocker shouldn't cause shedding, stopping it might lead to some hair loss as DHT levels increase again. I’m currently waiting to see a dermatologist in London, I’m sure she’s going to say to finasteride, compared to this how affective would a combination of natural supplements be? Also what do you think to Baricitinib? Many thanks in advance

    It's great that you're seeking advice from a dermatologist in London. They will be able to provide you with personalized recommendations based on a thorough evaluation of your condition. When it comes to hair loss, there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution, and it's important to follow the guidance of a medical professional. That said, the effectiveness of natural supplements and treatments, compared to pharmaceutical options like finasteride, can vary from person to person. Natural supplements and lifestyle changes can be beneficial for some individuals, especially if your hair loss is related to nutrient deficiencies, stress, or other non-hormonal factors. However, they may not provide the same level of results as prescription medications like finasteride. As for Baricitinib, it's an FDA-approved medication used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and, more recently, as a potential treatment for hair loss disorders like alopecia areata. Its effectiveness can also vary from person to person, and it may be prescribed by a dermatologist if they believe it's a suitable option for your specific condition. Ultimately, the best approach is to consult with your dermatologist in London and discuss the various treatment options available. They will provide you with expert advice based on your diagnosis and medical history. Be sure to communicate your concerns and preferences, and work together to develop a treatment plan that suits your needs and goals.

    Using both oral and topical minoxidil simultaneously is a strategy some people consider to enhance hair growth. However, it's crucial to understand the potential benefits and risks involved. Benefits: Enhanced Effectiveness: Combining both forms might potentially increase the effectiveness of minoxidil by ensuring higher concentrations reach the hair follicles. Comprehensive Coverage: Topical minoxidil directly targets the scalp, while oral minoxidil can work systemically, potentially benefiting areas that are hard to treat topically. Risks and Considerations: Increased Side Effects: Using both forms can increase the risk of side effects such as dizziness, rapid heart rate, fluid retention, and scalp irritation. Monitoring: Regular monitoring by a healthcare provider is essential to manage and mitigate any adverse effects. Medical Advice: It’s important to discuss this approach with a healthcare professional who can evaluate your specific situation and health history. Practical Tips: Start Low and Go Slow: If your doctor approves, start with lower doses of both forms to assess tolerance. Regular Check-Ups: Schedule frequent check-ups to monitor blood pressure and heart rate, as minoxidil can affect cardiovascular health. Adherence to Instructions: Follow the prescribed instructions carefully and report any side effects to your healthcare provider immediately. Conclusion: Using both oral and topical minoxidil simultaneously may offer enhanced benefits for hair growth, but it also comes with increased risks. Consulting with a healthcare professional is essential to ensure this approach is safe and effective for your individual needs. ➡️Reach out to us at Advanced Trichology Is it okay to take it along with Topical Finasteride & Minoxidil Spray? Or should I not take it at the same time? Combining oral minoxidil with a topical finasteride and minoxidil spray can be an effective approach for addressing hair loss, but it should be done with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Here are some key points to consider: Benefits: Synergistic Effects: Combining these treatments may enhance overall effectiveness, as they work through different mechanisms-minoxidil stimulates hair growth, while finasteride reduces DHT levels. Comprehensive Treatment: This approach can target hair loss from multiple angles, potentially improving results. Risks and Considerations: Increased Side Effects: Using multiple treatments simultaneously can increase the risk of side effects such as scalp irritation, dizziness, and cardiovascular effects. Interaction Monitoring: It is crucial to monitor for any interactions or compounded side effects. Regular check-ups with your healthcare provider are essential. Dosage Management: Ensure that the doses of each medication are appropriate and not excessive when combined. Practical Tips: Consult a Healthcare Professional: Before starting this combined treatment, discuss it with your healthcare provider to ensure it is safe for you. Start Gradually: If approved by your doctor, you might start with one treatment and gradually introduce the others, monitoring for side effects. Monitor Side Effects: Keep a close eye on any side effects and report them to your healthcare provider promptly. Adherence to Instructions: Follow the prescribed dosages and application instructions carefully. Conclusion: Combining oral minoxidil with a topical finasteride and minoxidil spray can be a potent approach for treating hair loss, but it should be done cautiously and under medical supervision. Your healthcare provider can help tailor the treatment plan to your specific needs and monitor for any adverse effects. ➡️Reach out to us at Advanced Trichology
