Really hope they fix the motion blur issue. However, think I’m still going to get the X3. I like the 1inch, but I like the usability and user interface of X3. I think the ease of use and sleek menu will allow me to be more creative.
Thanks for the honest review. It’s gonna be really hard for a 1/2” sensor to compete with a 1” sensor. No amount of digital magic will outshine a quality lens and a larger sensor. So if picture quality is critical, get the bigger sensor.
2 weeks ago, after a long time thinking about which is the best camera for me, I bought the Insta360 one X2. I didn't like some things like sound and the display. I'm all the more upset that there's a new one on the market now and nobody knew about it. I will exchange it for the Insta360 X3, there is also loop recording and dashcam mode, which was very important to me and the Insta360 one X2 does not have that. It's also probably better for virtual tours, I'm not doing that yet, but I plan to. So I hope the new one coming soon and I get the x2 refunded.
Ben, I've seen many X3-reviews in the last hours. Your's is one of the best because it is so honest with all the pros and cons. I keep my X2...
The larger display was the decisive argument for me to switch from the X2 to the X3. I do not expect a very big increase in quality. It will probably come down to the fact that the 1 inch will also have to be purchased if I want to deliver quality. For small video tours or for vacation, the X3 is good enough in my opinion and has the huge advantage that it is waterproof.

Hey there , if i may ask you. Im planning to by x2 or x3 in the near future because i am in need for a good 360 camera , I need your opinion as someone who has the x2. X2 claims that is waterproof for 10m (33ft) . I have done some research on it and i find a looooot of people who tried the camera underwater and it stop working, some others say that it is a marketing scam and its not waterproof. What do you say ? And how do we know for sure that x3 is legit waterproof? i have searched for videos and proofs but i cant find any yet. Ty for your time

@@erwtokritosgialos8133 I have taken my X2 1-3 feet underwater for brief stretches (5 minutes or so) without any issues. It has also held up very well in rain for 5+ hours at a time. I have also noted that it's pretty rugged -- I take it rock climbing and canyoneering, which means it sometimes gets swung into rocks, and it hasn't had any problems so far (thought, of course, I have to replace the lens guards after every trip, because they get scratched up very easily).

I am amazed by the coverage/promotion. This 360-degree camera has gotten. MKBHD and almost every KZreadr with more than 1000 followers have reviewed this camera. I bought into the hype myself. What no one tells you: The battery lasts no even 1h, more like 45min in almost every type of recording. Also, when night falls, this camera is absolutely useless. Even at dusk or dawn, this camera could be of some use, it is not. Also, with editing, KZreadrs make it sound seamless. Well, it is not…it requires some editing knowledge, and a relatively powerful computer, as files are humongous. About editing on iPhone, it provides the lowest resolution possible if done on the phone. Have you heard any of those reviewing this camera talking about those issues? Low light performance, battery not lasting more than 45min!. This makes me think all KZreadrs are paid to review this camera positively, to probably no one's surprise… I am returning mine. Camera is excellent, BUt I will buy a later version of a more mature product; having to have 3 batteries charged before starting any shooting makes me uncomfortable, especially if you lets say mount your camera on your helmet or on top of your car, you don't know when this one stops recording when batery is too low, it will be nice to get some alert on the phone. Otherwise, you have to stop every 30 minutes to check on the camera and replace the battery when it dies. If you missed some important place because it ran out of battery, you are out of luck...
I think we are spoiled. I remember the days when all I had was a Polaroid and a Kodak 110 camera and had to take the film to the store to have it developed. I'm definitely loving the Insta360 X3 and it's replacing my FLY360 camera for my flying videos in my Beechcraft Bonanza.

Thanks for the review, Ben! I recently bought the One RS 4k edition with a plan of buying the 1-inch 360 mode later. I hope you will have a comparison video between the X3 and the RS 1-inch 360.
This video is spot on. I just got the One RS a couple of weeks ago (ok I can't complain, it was a replacement I bought with a refund after my One R broke down within warranty) but would probably have gotten this one if I knew it was coming. It is no surprise that this is still 5.7K. First of all it would be better than the One inch that is much more expensive and just release. Secondly they have no competion that gets close, so why would they? Last but not least, I think the processor is the bottleneck. Better performance with lower heat production requires less nanometers for the transistors, which requires time.
Thanks for mentioning the problem with social media marketing. I saw footage of the x3 and thought. That looks like my on rs and i‘m not gonna buy a new 360 camera for a bigger screen. It is so confusing and misleading. I really appreciate a balanced review. Thank you🙏🏻
The release strategy comment is 100% correct. And what I’m annoyed about them just dropping stuff so often so suddenly
Great overview! The large screen, over everything else, is a game changer when comparing to the ONErs model. I wondered if it can take on the Theta-X for image quality. One feature I wish they would add is the 360 image using two single-sided shots - so the photographer doesn't have to hide or leave the room. Theta-Z1 has this feature - best feature for shooting in large open spaces.
@stevegarratt7806
Жыл бұрын
I'm sure you can change it to 180 mode and take a shot then flip it to the other side and take the second shot? Not a automatic as the theta but could work, would still have to stitch the photos together mind
Agree, no need to FOMO on this one, I'm guessing their strategy is to cater to the first-time buyers on latest and greatest releases to keep purchasing peaked vs the competition. I am a little glad over the unsurpassing of the Z1 as I am rocking that for stills and the X2 for video, nevertheless glad to see this iteration as I fence-sit a bit before getting the next Theta-Insta360 combo in the next year or so.
Finally someone to show you how the new X3 records video at night! However it would have been nice if you had left us the download of a 360 photograph taken with the X3.
I love that large screen on the X3. The small screens on the Insta360 cameras have always been a bit of a con, so this is a nice upgrade. Great overview Ben. And while this looks great, I'm not sure if it's worth upgrading over the X2. Thanks for sharing Ben.
Now THIS is a good review. This made me not wanna rush to the store and pick up the thing, instead it made me wanna sit down and think about it hard
I got my One X2 at the end of 2019 in preparation for a couple of trips to Japan in 2020. So I really haven't gotten full use out of it just yet so I don't think I'll be upgrading this time around. I really hope Loop recording will be brought to the X2 because my GoPro Hero3 is getting a little old for a dash cam too.
I ignored all the other "hype" videos and waited for this one, as always I'm glad I did. I'm a bit out of the loop with cameras these days as I jumped from MiSphere to a DSLR some time ago but keep thinking about a new "all in one" like this - my question (to Ben or anyone reading this) is, with so much focus on featuring the user in some of the modes have we got to a point where the opposite is easier and you can film while removing, or at least hiding, the person holding the camera without having to do it in post?
@BenClaremont
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! In 360 mode this is not an easy feat, as it’s a lot of work to remove a moving person. Best to just set it up and hide as best you can 👍🏻
yeah totally agree on the weird release strategy. i bought the 1inch and now there's the X3, considerable difference in the usability & form factor. all in all im still excited to see the X3 and how they really focus on the usability and similarity to how you might navigate a phone. i still wish they had an integrated selfie stick like the mi sphere -- without a wire dangling out on the side.
Would love to see a review of the 4k forward facing single lens on the x3 vs the 4k boost mod on the one rs. Would be great to help me decide between the two.
your videos about 360 cameras are the only ones i believe. and ive almost all the x3 reviewers. youre honest with pros and cons. some others are honest but they always speak from a newbie perspective, and therefore only speaks pros of a products. keep it up!

So I waited for Thursdays announcement, sent back the X2 and ordered the X3 which was delivered the next day ! Amazing! I’m happy with all the new features but the 4k single mode is very disappointing.😢

This is a great video! I’ve never owned a 360 camera and the features and improvements are minor for sure, but significant enough to cover the bases of why I never left GoPro. This X3 looks like it ticks all the boxes so I’m IN!
Thanks Ben, another incremental upgrade.. Pity the desktop app is still shit.
Ben outstanding video. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you clarity in reviewing the camera. So many reviews are out of touch but I like the Pro's and Con's version you provide. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Ben…definitely waiting on the review comparison between X3 vs 1-inch
The stitch lines, even for objects in the distance, is kind of a deal-breaker for me. Thanks for the video -- excellent information, as you always deliver. Much appreciated! Also -- megapixels, or even overall resolution for that matter, aren't the best indication of quality. Look at the video world -- a BlackMagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera (the original) maxed out at 1920x1080, but the quality of the footage was so good that you could upscale to 4k and get a better image than most of the native 4k cameras out there. More pixels just means more pixels -- it doesn't guarantee that the images collected by the pixels are any good. With smaller sensors they have to pack those pixels in so tightly that you often get artifacts that are displeasing and have to be corrected via internal camera processing. I've seen larger sensors with FEWER pixels create outstanding images -- blowing everything else out of the water -- because the pixels had more space and dealt with available light better and required less processing in order to look good. As you've shown, "more MP" isn't always "more better".
I picked X3 as my first ever 360 camera, hope to not be disappointed. Still waiting on delivery.
The on camera sound is now usable, it wasn't before, this is a VERY useful improvement
they released all of these right before the holidays...not the best marketing but keeping their name out there with new cameras right before the holiday season has to be the motivation

Thanks for this Ben, I’ve ordered an X3 on the basis of your videos and can’t wait to get started on it. I saw you did a video on getting 360 vids onto the Meta Quest 2, would be really interested to see you speak some more about watching the vids in VR in general, maybe a comparison of headsets? I’ve got the PSVR and it’s a bit fiddly getting the vids on there, but the experience is amazing (even though some way from perfect in terms of resolution etc, might just be my old Insta360 ONE camera). I’ve been recording 360 vids at family occasions and holidays for a number of years, and watching them on a VR headset is like going in a time machine! Really enjoying your content, keep up the good work.

Good point when you said : "why market 3 insta360 at 3 different times?" I believe they rushed out the X3 earlier than expected to gain some GoPro market, before GoPro comes out with their Hero 11 (which might kill Insta360 if they go 8k!)
Thanks for your honesty. I appreciate it. I’ll take my time in deciding whether I’ll add this to my travel or not.
Awesome, Ben!! I have the One R and was about to pull the trigger on the One RS 1 in 360. I look forward to the comparison video. Thank you for the great content.

Thanks for your clarification Ben : I was a little nervous because after buying the insta360 1 inch (here in Italy I paid more than 1000 euros), I find this latest X3. However, I will never understand Insta's policy (a few hops at a time), instead of waiting and making a new super release. Just the same soup with a little more salt ..... Thank you

Agreed Ben - the new 2.29 inch touchscreen is a HUGE improvement as is the clearer audio and the bigger camera sensor is helpful. Many thanks for your balanced review!
Great summary video. I have the original 1X and just a month ago got the RS1 1" Edition. I love it. The 1" Edition is not a real action camera but does what I need really well. If I needed on the X3 would be it.

Txs for being yourself mate... infact if x3 could have come with 1 inch sensor would have made more sense to buy it
Thanks for posting this. I was hoping to get your insight as soon as I heard about this. I have to admit I was really frustrated when I went to see what this “magic” announcement was yesterday. Just five days after I laid out money for an One X2 (which was already a risky move), now there’s a brand new improved successor I had no way of knowing about as I took the plunge. My timing is nearly always terrible... I’ve been really enjoying the one X2, but the extra $20 wouldn’t have been a problem if I only knew to wait just a few days. I’m now wondering about looking into getting a refund then getting an X3, but I also had just ordered the lens cap and an extra battery, which would be rendered useless if I did. I’ve even considered just doubling down and getting an X3 in addition, which is possible, but a nearly insane move with my current money situation (living off a dwindling pension from my 25 year job that COVID snuffed out). I was a little encouraged hearing you say you took a gamble with getting your first 360 camera with what little you had at the time, but I’m not sure what path there might be for me to keep myself afloat as a middle aged hobbyist with no contacts. I’ve been gearing up to get my KZread presence back on track with videos using that use my music, and animations done with After Effects and Blender, but can I really generate enough money from that to do more than hit up the McDonalds drive thru? But hey, I don’t mean to prattle on about my hardships. If I could figure out a path to make a living with two very similar less-than-professional cameras, maybe I could steer away from the cliff I’ll be falling off by early next year. Sorry to dump a massive monologue in your comments section, but I appreciate your own sharing of your background and find your work very well done and inspirational. You’re one of the only Insta360 users on KZread who isn’t mostly riding around on one wheel skateboards or motocross bikes. You’ve got the artistic eye and I hope it’s paying off for you.

Ben, thank you very much for the only honest review of the new X3 camera! 👍 I highly appreciate your integrity and honesty. I hope that the higher resolution of photos is some sort of preparation for higher video resolution in the future FW updates.
Not upgrading. Will continue to use Theta Z1. Still a good camera for virtual tours.
Still running the original One X. Now looking to upgrade to the X3.
I'm really looking forward to see the X3 compared with the RS.
Would love to know the sound modes you were in with the audio and seagulls (great background location with obliging. Seagulls by the way!) Stereo or Sound Reduction? X3 seems a big improvement. On the 72mp comparison, it’s the colour Sat that seems so much better of the X3. But thank, you for great info and valued comparison 🙂
Good stuff. I’m on the one r, so I can justify the upgrade but that’s a good point about them releasing 3 cameras back to back to back. Maybe I’ll wait 2 months to see if another one comes out 😂
Great video and comparison shots. I've a question though, do you know how resistant the x3 lens and touch screen are to scratches? I've been put off upgrading for a while now as I noticed a lack of protective cases or any way to replace the lens. Had it happen to me that I scratch one of the lens of my Insta360 Evo 🥲
As always great video Ben, you make it so much easier for users to make an informed decision on these cameras. I think Insta should consider using you guys on a consultancy basis to assist with their marketing strategies, concept & design and what the users are really after and most important to them as I think they're just releasing cameras every 6 months without putting much thought into it. If they spend a little more time in getting the perfect 360 camera and utilizing all the latest technology with your input their sales good increase threefold.

Good, objective review. Thanks Ben. Waterproof is the only feature (aside from the obvious big touchscreen) that would interest me if I had not just bought the 1 inch...
Ben, thanks for the work you put into this comparo! In the still photos, I see the 1-inch coming out on top. I have the Insta360 1-inch and the Theta Z1. Night sky timelapses is my primary use. Looking forward top seeing what the 1-inch is capable of.
I bought the 1 inch only 2 weeks ago... was a little annoyed at seeing the new X3. If they don't release a dive housing for the 1 inch, I may look at the X3 just for underwater work with a dive housing, it would still be cheaper than the top-of-the-line GoPro plus dive housing as well as being more versatile with re-framing. The 72mpp sounds super interesting for virtual tours as well.

@@CyberMew Without a doubt, the 1 inch is better in low light. But: the x3 is waterproof, a lot lighter (3 m stick...) and therefore better suited for me. I'm selling the 1 inch right now...
the greatest camera review i have seen so far. good job
Great video Ben, I was hoping that the 72mp images would have made a significant difference for virtual tours. Would you still recommend the 1-inch over the x3 for virtual tours?

But he said, 1 inch best in terms of quality, sharpness...will waiting his compassion side by side.

The 1 inch is better for virtual tours due to bigger sensor and sharpness. Hugh Hou mentioned that in his very thorough comparision video.

Will make a comparison video soon- stay tuned 👍🏻
Nice info: In my country the X2 is $325 and X3 is $500 (best deals i can find today anyway) So really because of budget thinking what to get. I could get the x3 with no accessories, or the x2 with a bunch of accessories. Im learning towards the X2 right now

I like the sound of X3 the touch screen and the me mode. I hope you are satisfied with your purchase.
Thank you SOOOO much. Serving people in such a way. You totally get it!!!! I think I need to wait for the comparison video. Held out so long for this camera yet doesn’t seem to blow away. I am leaning more towards the higher quality Leica option yet as an action sports videographer the X3 is the more logical in terms of robustness…

Just posted it 😁
Thanks for the info. i was glad to hear someone talk about the audio! I’ll be getting one soon
Thanks Ben as always very useful videos and I like your honesty - recently bought the ONE X2 on prime day based on one of your videos comparing the ONE RS vs ONE X2 as I already have a GoPro Hero 8.
Thanks, Ben for your review. I am interested in seeing this against the Z1 in 360 Pano shots. Thanks, you rock!
I remember back when I was a kid and the megapixel war started. After about a year or so it became apparent that megapixel had nothing to do with image quality. How did we end up back here? Yes MP plays a part but clearly other features make bigger differences.

That's because mp have a lot to do with picture quality. Its just not the only factor that makes a significant difference.
When you pan the mirror, in the megapixel comparison test, look at the detail, of what you can see through the window, in the reflection of the mirror.
Thanks for this review. The best in my eyes! I was wondering why other reviewers mentioned 72MPx photos only in a sentence. I remember that it was that big thing for the Theta X. Seems like the quality didn't hit the expectations. Sad, I was looking for a camera with higher photo resolution. Maybe you could make a comparison X3 vs Theta X?

Will do my best! Unfortunately sensor size has a much bigger influence over clarity than MP.. hence why the results are all pretty similar.
I'd say that there are 2 major things that I don't like about the x3 is how much the lens scratches (that is understandable) and you can't save the 4k videos to your phone via wifi. I know I can just use a computer, but my computer doesn't support the software.
You are the best reviewing those 360 cameras! Thank you Ben!
As always, thanks for your take on the One X3. I own the original One X and a One R, and I've been wondering when is the right time to update my One X. I might wait until Christmas to see if something else comes out but it looks like it might be time to upgrade my old workhorse for something with a better design and doesn't need a case to go underwater. Cheers!
Great review as always! 8K is also in Timeshift or only Timelapse?

Just timelapse 👍🏻
This is why I always do months of research before I purchase electronics. I rushed and purchased the X2 two weeks ago for a trip to Greece. Guess what? the X3 gets released the day I leave for my vacation 😪. Should I take a hit and try to sell the X2 when I get back, or stick with the X2. I atleast did get the creator pack while it was on-sale.
I'm curious on how well the 72mp does with Google maps. I did a video game store, they liked the photo but I didn't cause you couldn't see the titles on the video games... but with 72mp, it's it possible to zoom in and see smaller print from 3-5 feet away (18mp vs 72mp).

This won’t give you that level of detail… a camera like the XPhase or shooting with a DSLR would though 👍🏻

@@BenClaremont OK, thanks for your answer! I was hoping it would have.
Great review, Ben. I love that you share the pros and cons so we can make a more informed decision. Thanks!
I don’t understand why they would release all these cameras so close together. Kids of feels like a money grab.
This is such a great review. I was quite decided to get the X2 as it's cheaper and I just wanted a waterproof camera for me to use but after watching this, I will now definitely get the X3. Thank you. I also subscribed immediately.
The stitch line on the 1-inch is too noticeable for my taste, so it may have a more detailed image and better low light sensitivity, but I'd still prefer a thinner camera like the X2 or X3
It's a great video, Ben. Personally, I feel very awkward with the releasing strategy of Insta360. I've got my One X2 a week ago and all the retailers in my country have no clue that the next generation will be available soon. I have found the One X3 yesterday when the company they send out marketing email. Overall, I feel that I am being cheated by this tactical campaign.

Well it seems that I am not the only one who feel really painful by this release. Probably I will drop them an email to express how we as consumers feel about it. This product release totally change my perception of Insta360. They have cool product and well supported software with great AI technology, no doubt. But other than that guys, multiple traps are waiting for you to touch their product 😂
