    The fox has both hi speed and low speed adjustability. I’ve researched all males of kits and watched as many tech videos as I can and I think the low speed adjustability would be incredible

    Great intro video to this topic! Wish I had seen it before I bought - though wouldn't have changed the outcome - still would've gone Icon. I would agree with the Icon assessment - despite having no comparison to Fox, but general road feel is good (maybe ride quality a bit on the stiffer side), but when things got a bit squirrely when conditions weren't as ideal, they seemed very planted, in control, increasing driver confidence. I also happened to jump all over a sale Icon had, so it was a no brainer for me - put the Stage 5 on my 2018 F150.

    It's interesting how you find icon more suitable for heavy off road use. Icon is a degressive shock Fox is a linear shock. If the same spring rate is used linear or progressive (king) shocks are more suitable for heavy off road use. Degressive shocks transmit more of the initial jolt of a bump through the body. Linear and progressive shocks have a more plush feel for daily driving and are more predictable with better overall traction.

  • @kregadeth5562

    @kregadeth5562

    3 жыл бұрын

    But since the icon is stiffer and dampened more, it makes the icon more suitable for high speed off road use. Initially the fox is softer because it is progressive, and the icon is the same rate the whole way, so the fox would have less resistance. In total the icon will resist more than the fox. At least that’s my take. I think I got it

  • @kregadeth5562

    I think it’s because there is so much variability from maker to maker that things don’t necessarily add up to what you would expect.

  • @anthonytrujillo7971

    @anthonytrujillo7971

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@kregadeth5562 the icon shocks are not dampening more than the fox shocks by being degressive. That's not how shocks work. The reason digressive shocks are not the better heavy off road shock is as velocity increases digressive shock dampening decreases. If you hit a hard bump and the initial pressure required to open the shim stack is not enough to control the body the shock has no control of the vehicle through the rest of the cycle to the bump stop. With a linear shock as velocity increases dampening increases at the same rate. With a progressive shock like king, radflow or ADS as velocity increases dampening increases at a higher rate. Digressive shocks are great for onroad use and mild offroad use there's less body roll in the corners but they hit a performance wall much faster

    Fox use progressive damping, start soft and get progressively stiffer as you compress them. ICON are digressive valving, which means the harder you push them they are going to run out of tech. ICON aren't nearly as nice to drive on-road as you guys mentioned. I have absolutely regretted owning ICON products, not so with KING, and haven't owned Fox. If you are going to go hard off-road and you want the best ride on road get progressive damping, KING and FOX.

However, I can no longer recommend them. Personally, they should warranty anything if it fails, but they dont. I am planning to try king or fox next.

    nastystang113 honestly the differences of the on the road ride quality will be minimal, but the 2.5’s offer basically infinite adjustability so you can adjust for vehicle weight and the conditions you use your truck in better, and the 2.5’s will have better control and much less fade off road.

    @@rhacem3 honestly I havent felt the need. I havent, nor plan on, jumped the truck. But have done some good high speed desert, mountain trail off roading, 50-60mph and the truck just ate up everything I threw at it. No bottoming out, just very planted and predictable. Best upgrade yet.

    Damn. How do you know that, you're an avid off roader? Asking for help because I do plan to take my truck offroad but nothing as extreme as rock crawling. Something durable for rural areas where we have dirt roads, flooded areas, the occasional off roading, and some bad roads with pot holes.

    @@deeznatzinyomouth3934 Sounds like luck of the draw, I ran Icon on my last vehicle for 5 years without an issue, in Australia with our severe corrugations. I fully plan to run them again on my current one. As for Fox, over here we only see it on Mall Crawlers, so really don't know how they hold up in comparison.

    @@cryptotroll1232 I'm actually really grateful that I had no issues, because I'm in Australia, and at the time there was nobody here that could have serviced them, so any problem would have required shipping them to the states. (Very different now as we have plenty of local service options).
