BEFORE and AFTER Fighting Khamzat Chimaev

Спорт

Khamzat Chimaev is one of MMA's fastest rising stars - here we look how opponents reacted before and after fighting 'Borz'.
After taking an air-tight decision against Gilbert Burns in their April showdown, Khamzat still has his eyes on the Welterweight title.
The trash talk and confidence has grown alongside his impressive victories - but with a newfound respect for the division, can 'Borz' continue to conquer?

Having a war with the #2 contender in a hard division like welterweight after just 2 fights in the division is crazy! People who are jumping off the hype train just because he didn't run through burns are stupid asf,he will only get better.

Everyone's also ignoring the fact khamzat said the fight against burns was his worst fight cuz he was completely wild and didn't listen to a word his corner said. He beat the #2 contender while completely throwing the game plan out the window. That deserves additional respect

9/10 of Burns opponents who gets hit by a clean check hook or over hand bomb end up knocked out cold... Khamzat was the 1/10 that took clean bombs from Burns and kept moving forward.

I'm positive that Gilbert Burns has the hardest punch out of the top 10 in welterweight and he said "I hit that guy clean and he kept coming, zombie" watch Gilbert's striking highlights from the past 2 years and then you can appreciate how much damage Borz took and kept on marching. I wasn't on the hype train but sheesh the dudes nickname fits because he's an animal.

I think the Burns fight was the best thing to happen to Khamzat. He didnt stick to the gameplan and went in thinking he was gonig to knock him out. It turned into a bar fight and he didnt listen to his coaches. Hes lucky he got the win but I think it humbled him in the best way possible. Youre not going to destroy the top contenders like youre used to. He needs to really work on his ground game and takedown defense if he ever stands a shot at beating Usman. I think hell have to go through Colby too, and as much as I hate Covington and think Khamzat is the perfect guy to beat up bloody and shut him up for a while, I think Colbys ground game and wrestling is elite. Id love to see a Colby matchup though, and if he can pull off a win there, theres nothing else stopping them from giving him a title shot, especially if Edwards loses to Usman. Hes got the makings of a fan favourite, cant wait to see how high he flies, but the roads only gonig to get harder.

My friend I don’t think you know Khamzat very well. Have you even watched his fights? You think he is an amateur. Sure there are ways he could improve and this fight with Gilbert Burns, he could’ve choked him out, but he didn’t. Watch the video again. He let Gilbert stand up again and again. And you could clearly see how well he was taking his punches. To me, it seemed like Khamzat got tired of choking people out and he wanted to do something different. The fight with Kamaru Usman, Khamzat will win for sure. Just wait and watch.

I personally believe that the Gilbert Burns who showed up to fight that night was the best version of himself yet. It would have been crazy if he hadn’t recovered from that first knock down, but I think it was good for Khamzat to get a full fight in. I think what he can take most from that fight is focusing more on developing a game plan. But had he finished Burns quickly he probably would have been given an immediate title shot. The Nate Diaz fight coming up though is ridiculous.

He will be champion one day. I don't know if he will be champion while Usman is here, but if anyone has a chance at beating Usman it is him. I believe if he trains extremely hard and has a good training camp and brings in some really good training partners, then he could beat Usman. If he fought like he did against Burns and brings even just another 10% more effort and performance, he will beat Usman. I honestly think he should be facing Colby. If he can beat Colby, then he can beat Usman. I don't get this whole Nate Diaz fight at all. I understand it from Nate's side with it being his last fight. But it doesn't make sense from Khamzats side. Everyone's saying if he beats Nate it's an immediate title shot. I don't see how Nate is the gatekeeper to the belt. He's not even ranked in the top 5.

He prob my fav fighter at the moment, but…realistically..he smoked guys he should’ve smoked, Gilbert really showed he had some areas to work on. The jump in comp was insane though. And he put a hurting on Gil but I wouldn’t say he’s something we haven’t seen before.
