I deployed to Hatay province with REACT Disaster Response.....the devastation was truly off the scale but the people we met were truly the most hospitable considering they'd lost everything, I hope the area recovers well.

With this extra bracing, this tower can withstand earthquake forces nearly four times as efficiently as a conventionally damped building. The dampening system proved its worth in January 2003, as a 7.6 earthquake shook the city. It's not about whether we have strong will or not. The point is that we are used to it. So its not a trauma at all lol. And we already knew earthquakes were coming, guess who didn't care.

Older structures are mostly intact,while newer ones (built in the past 25 years) seem to be collapsed. Building authorities and construction companys are responsible too

Believe me that actually the real picture is worse than this. I live in turkey and I saw that the reality is like a sci-fic movie. Those photos are just a small part of hatay and Kahramanmaraş. Every street is like that in these cities. The situation is incredible bad.

Crazy how vibrant colourful city can turn into grey in just a few minutes.

Helps put things into persepctive but even with that one can not fully grasp the pain and hardship the people will endure for many years to come because of this horrible event.

1:09 - The biggest shock was the complete absence of the 15-20 story building on the left after the earthquake. The frightening thing is that there was no way to tell from just looking at any particular building if it would survive or not, because it certainly wasn't just the oldest and most rundown structures that fell. This tall building certainly had to be one of the newer ones in this view but obviously there was nothing left of it except rubble.

and the terrifying part is, life goes on. People lost their friends and families, sons daughters and wives, and still need to go to work full time immediately afterwards where possible to make ends meet :(

I live in a district of Maraş and i wish i go to center before earthquake for last one time. I born at there and go to much. I live my childhood in there. Im sorry about it. My dads friends die at there, theyre like in our family. One of my uncle friends say my uncle "Hakkınızı helal edin" this means take care to yourself maybe we cant see eachother. And he get shocked in debris. He is like in our family. There is to many people like that. (Sorry for my bad english). Take care of yourself and your family.

At 1:25 on the left, seems to look alright, but thats just outside ofc the damage we cannot see if even leaking water, gas .... walls that are unsafe or whole buildings that are now too dangerous to go in

That's because Erdogan offered amnesty to contractors who won't or didn't follow safety regulations after 2007 for a fee. Their official no. collected by the govt. is $3 billion. You can only guess what the real no. is.

Erdogan corruption ...people there are blind, I went there 2 yrs ago as part of a training. Erdogan has binded religion, ethnicity and patriotism to his party. So he will win no matter what. And the country will go down with him

Not true. Antakya the old town is rubble now including the century old mosque. Gaziantep castle extremely damaged, etc. I rejoice at every modern building still standing at least these people have survived.

Terrible. Just horriffic. Seeing all the buildings crumbled to pieces and all the lives gone. Heartbreaking. Nature is brutal. And it will continue.

That's just horrible to see it like that.

Turkey is one of the most earthquake countries of the world. You would have thought cutting costs on building construction would be an insane thing to do, but they obviously did.

The extent of the damage is so much.

The buildings were made very weak to handle any tremors .

Lots of old, earthquake prone buildings. The modern ones like the second to the last shown stood very well.
