It used to have a projection of rats crawling across some branches and they're supposed to fall into your vehicle, but the effect either wasn't very convincing or hasn't worked as intended in a while so I'm glad they replaced it with something new.

Of all rides that move at a snail's pace I really wish there would be like a month where this ride is slow as hell, there's so much to look at and you don't get to soak it all in at all
The fog down where the lava is was stopped due to mold growing I think. Also, you missed the part in the beginning of the ride where Indy was trying to close the doors. Behind the doors were updated projections instead of curtains. Btw, the snake wasn’t fixed, it’s a completely different snake. Disney was doing maintenance on the original snake animatronic so they replaced it with a fake snake, until they could put the original back in its place. Otherwise, great video with fantastic insight and explanations!

The bug room projections have been upgraded. I went on yesterday and before it closed in January. The clarity of the insects has been massively improved.
An update to the dart room would have been nice. They could have used projections on the walls to bring the skeletons to life, maybe add some fog and other effects. Overall, it's great to have Indy back in action!

I like new stuff on INDY right now
Love these before and afters! Thank you David!
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure they have a mesh wire scrim type fabric/screen above the torches in the new addition which is how they’re able to have the flames appear out of nowhere. Similar to how they make the twinkling magic happen on Mystic Manor in Hong Kong!
The spectral energy reminds me of the scene at the end of Radars of the Lost Ark, where they are in the canyon, opening the ark and the specters come out and melt all their faces off . ???
You’ve missed a lot of things that were changed. First, the projections for the 3 doors now look more define. 2nd, Mara in the hall of promise has completely new projection effects and likely a new projector. 3rd, new Lightning effect behind the gates of doom that replaced a curtain. 4th, bug room projection is enhanced so it looks more clear + second bug room projection is switched off or removed. 5th snake dummy replaced with the animatronic snake (the snake you mentioned on the before is actually not the same snake on the after footage. The before snake was just a dummy head and not an animatronic. They put it there if they have to take out and repair the animatronic). 6th, ghost of Mara looks slightly different. 7th, completely new projections in the dark room as replacement for the rat log. 8th the boulder chamber is completely restored to look like when it opened in 1995. And that’s about all the big things that’s changed about the ride in the refurb

Thanks for the update
List of things done. For earthly riches and Future, their animations got reworked. New stuff inside the truck outside. New items added infront of the Mara mural. Newly updated Boulder chamber. New painted blue ghost of Mara. New snake, of course. New lasers, they are like cyan blue now. New animation behind the gates of doom with new sounds of electricity. And of course the new projections and new area.
Thank you for your analysis of the before and after. Good job!
- Missed the video screen behind the chamber doors that Indy is holding back. - Snake does not move as much as it did before the break down. - They removed the water and fig in the lava pit -The spirit in the skull is more pronounced if you look up. (Not seen in video) They need to update the dart room especially with the new crumbling room. - The safety film room is still only showing the safety spiel and removed the news reels.

@winterhotfoot1958
Жыл бұрын
@@mindyschocolate I heard that the removal had to do with safety regulations(or probably insurance against lawsuits), so now you can't miss that loop even the ride is a zero-wait walk-on. And even if they set up some way of playing the extra material when wait times were long, there's an additional problem: A section of the reels also spent a bit of time talking about a now removed/disabled effect that worked with the moving doors, presented with video of an animated and annotated map of the temple. Fixing that would be an expensive investment, since it doesn't offer any clean cuts the way the safety bit did, on top of risking liability if it played when the queue was short.
Ah, we old-timers who remember the full scale awesomeness that was Indy in the first few weeks when absolutely everything worked and we couldn't imagine a cooler, more modern, more high-tech ride, we are a rare breed. 😂

I'm liking the updates. Make's me want to experience it in person.
The name of the ride is “Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of The Forbidden Eye.” Temple of Doom is the name of the second movie. But I agree with what you said, this ride is it’s own story with minor elements from some of the movies. No need to change it to be the same as any of the movies.
Thank you for your hard work......
Can’t wait to go in this again. Going in May on a solo trip. Hubby gets to stay home and watch the animals. Indy was my very first ride at Disneyland and so it is definitely nostalgia for me.
You missed pausing and talking about it, but the effect behind the first door that Indy is holding closed has changed pretty significantly. I like the new one more.
I checked the wait times yesterday just because I was curious about spring break crowds and was surprised that wait times for most rides were pretty low considering. Looks like it is because everyone's in line for Indiana Jones, Mickey and Minnie's, and Roger Rabbit/Toon Town.
Nice. It’s like they upgraded the lights like they did with the Haunted Mansion. Can’t wait to get on in a few weeks when we visit. Definitely our kiddo’s favorite ride.

While the doors don't move (or do they?) you definitely went through two "different" paths. 0:54 you can see the "riches" on either side of Mara above the doorway, and Mara is definitely a golden color going up the ramp (until you look into her eyes). At 10:30 you go through the "see the future" doorway as seen by the two eyes on each side of Mara above the door and Mara is purple and swirly color before turning into fire. I don't remember if the tops of the doors changed/was broken/etc though.

The door projection changes but the walls don't move... probably never will... to make it look like you were taking a different path. I was there opening month and to have that rubble dump in front of you was amazing. I thought it was foam rocks but later learned it was ice. It seemed on opening there were more dead ends but there is alas only one at the beginning.
@imlegos2153

@@justimagine2403 Mhm. the way the doors worked is that there's actually 5 doors, two of them are obscured by the walls at all times which rotate on a turntable from the ceiling to make it look like you're going through either the center, left, or right door. But in reality, you always went through the center of the five.
When I saw your original ride video my first thought was that they moved over to LED lighting throughout. Everything seemed a lot more crisp, but like you mentioned it could be your ISO \ camera, but it's substantial throughout the ride. Thanks for taking the time to do this! Very time intensive.
@Hanneth
Жыл бұрын
I agree, I think they probably moved to LED lighting throughout the ride. The lights would last longer and would take less electricity. The problem with LED lighting is making it match other lighting types is difficult, you usually end up with things brighter. That may be why some places are brighter and some are darker is that they were trying to match the old in places, and others trying to spruce things up a bit.

There are two things I noticed that you didn’t comment on here and are hard to see in the video: The first time we see Indie, when he is standing at the big doors, the effect between the doors beyond him is updated. It has the same sort of spectral effect as the new horizontal effect. The bug projections looked brighter and a higher resolution.p
@quickattack
Жыл бұрын
I was going to come say this, too. I think it's actually a screen behind there now and not just curtains. Also, the bugs have practical bugs on the wall now and not pure projection.
At first I thought the new scene was a recreation of the tunnel filling up with water from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom but when I rewatched it I noticed it was Mara’s Spectral Energy that not only made are vehicle stall out in the dark but it also made the fake hallway collapse and are vehicle had to take a different route to get out of temple but unfortunately that’s when we are met with poison dart trap! But overall they did a very good job with this refurb thank u Disney for going above and beyond with this refurb and hopefully maybe one day we can get those chamber doors working again!!!
I was waiting for this. Dave always comes through with great analysis. 👍🏾👍🏾
8:01 simple peppers ghost effect, the screen sits just in front of the pillars and the image projected is slightly bent especially when you move past it. Pretty cool programming.
Good comparison, David. I guess I’m in the minority, but I actually liked Crystal Skull…as I have watched tv specials about the Nasca lines in Peru and what seem to be depictions of spacecraft being operated that are carved in stone, etc….for over 50 years! (Please don’t mistake that for a tendency to fall for everything…as I certainly do not) I enjoyed those connections, including how the warehouse where they stored the Ark of the covenant was actually Area 51 (I did the proverbial slap to the forehead and said “well, of course…now it all makes sense!”) So, in the sense of being connected to a well known story or phenomenon, CS is really like two of the other first four (Raiders=Ark of the covenant, Last Crusade=The Holy Grail) and it’s really TOD that is the odd one out, in those terms. That being said, the one aspect of Crystal Skull I didn’t like was that they made the aliens inter dimensional, rather than just from another part of our galaxy within our own dimension…..that seemed to be an unnecessary addition. To me, the Temple Of The Forbidden Eye attraction, with its boulder, darts shot from walls, bugs crawling everywhere and his fear of snakes, is simply about Indy in general.
David, thank you for another wonderful video. I appreciate what you do.
I’ve been riding Indiana Jones since I was a kid and I was so scared and loved the ride . Now that I’m older I love the ride and the movies . I’m so excited to ride Indy again
Great video Dave. The energy lightening reminds me of the first Indy didn’t they have stuff when they lifted the box and when it opened? It’s been a long time since I’ve watched it so I could be way off lol. Thanks
You should get a 360 camera.. easier to stabilize the image with no loss of frame size.. also you only need to point the camera in one direction, then in post, you can manually pan/pitch the camera to where you want to look rather than having to whip the camera around causing excess motion blur. Also you can correct any unnecessary camera roll and pitch. Then you can also adjust the field of view in situations where you want to see more in frame and not like you are watching through a pair goggles of blinders which happens with traditional cameras when you are close up to the action. All this can be adjusted in post.. Makes a world of difference and you are not having to constantly fiddle with settings, lenses and your position.. Also, you will have the have the ability to leave it as is to watch with a VR set for a more real experience.
The hallway of painted skeletons really needs a huge upgrade.
Glad to see Fluffy the cobra is out of quarantine 😅 The lighting looks beautiful! I honestly hope they start selling merch of Fluffy
The blue spectral effect reminds me of the effects used when the ark is opened at the climax of Raiders.
My husband and I think the “hallway” flames scene likely will relate to the new Indy movie. How cool would it be too if you saw the ride vehicle in the new movie?!
9:04. There is a change in the glow room. On the right between the two skeleton guards there is a passageway that seems to be lit with fire as you drive past it. I don’t remember seeing that tunnel before when I last went on that ride in 2019.
I can't wait to experience the new scenes and refurbishment!
The effects (projections) on Mara himself look much better and more modern than before.
The spectral lighting new scene reminds me of the spirits flying around when the Ark of the Covenant was opened in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
8:05 there's a thin and hard to see projection skrim or screen that sits in between the practical pits so the fire looks somewhat real. A Clever idea for projection mapping
Hahaha, I loved the Contact reference
Fun FB drinking game…take a drink every time you hear the word “practical”
I had no idea that there even was a falling rocks scene. The ride in its original form must have been amazing, even compared to today's standards and what the ride looks like today. I saw another video pointing out that it may have been due to the fact that the ice they used to create the effect either a) corroded the parts of the machine used to create the effect or b) was too expensive to maintain as they had to dye the ice brown to look like falling rocks. Either way, it would be awesome if an imagineer could come up with a way to bring that back along with the revolving door.
What type of camera IS your fancy cam? I would love to get one that captures low lit places in the park like this.
Couple of things I'm nitpicking: In the tunnel with lightning there's less fog it used to completely cover the track since the ride vehicle is supposed to be 'floating' towards the doors. Indie then is supposed to completely shut the door, which is why the car jolts away. At least they updated the projection behind the door, it used to be curtains with lights. The bug projection was updated and looks much better, but it doesn't last as long Hard to tell but the ropes on the bridge used to move, looks like they didn't fix it. The lava pit isn't filled with water or fog and still looks kind bad. If the rumors are true about mold they should've replaced the effect. The skeleton room has audio that is usually out of sync, seems to still be an issue. The emergency exit at the end is still stuck open, which is why the skeletons at the end look odd and detached
The older one I didn’t see the green laser light from the skull.
I just tried the refurbished ride. I noticed a big difference in how the vehicle moves. It is much more mobile, bounces and tilts more, and is much smoother. All the projections are more advanced. You seem to stay on the bridge longer and it has more effects, like red light shooting up.
Hey Fresh Baked!!
Looks like the new scene with the spectral energy, the flame columns are projections on a fine scrim. At 12:46-12:48 you can see the projections turn off as your vehicle passes by.
@masshysteria1589

You're right. There's also a visible line where it gets darker because of the scrim a few frames before the scene goes out of view
Indy’s words seemed clearer to me in yr ride-through of the update David, is it me? Was super fuzzy my last few visits at least.
Is the generator working and radio music playing in the initial outdoor queue?
I hope that’ll answer the question how the effect with the flame in the section where the hall crumbles as long as you’re on the ride you can tell that there’s like a mesh screen in front of the scene
FRESHBAKED is ADVENTURE!!!! Upss DISNEYLAND!
I saw another person’s before and after and their new one was definitely brighter.
Well done Disney :) My 2 cents: a) If 'fog' can't be used over the 'lava' pots anymore...it's very easy to simulate moving lava with practical effects...but ya'll know that ;) b) If the 3-doors at the beginning will never be operational...then the space for the two 'unused' doors can be utilized for other effects. That's a lot of wasted space staring at the guests in the vehicles.

I think they really need to just fix the doors. It worked for a long time 20 years ago so it's hard to understand how they can't fix it not. @@amacoutdoors2076 I've heard 2 reasons, the original manufacturers are no longer in business and to even fix the tracks they run on, the area needs to be demolished. There's no way they're going to take the time to destroy something only to build it back. The cost, time, and effort can't be justified for the mere position of the door when a guest pass through it. Yes, it was cool but just not worth it when they can just convey the same idea through projection.

I think the light saturation difference and lighting over all is different due to the inclusion of LED lighting instead of the older gels and incandescent or what not.
It is the same screen material that Disney uses to project as in the phantom manor over the music box at the beginning
Wait WHAT?! You’re telling me the DOORS MOVED????
Excited to see the new spectral room! Too bad they can't figure out how to get fog back under the bridge.
The reference to Dial is the vortex destroying the temple walls.
Is Indy holding back spectral energy at that half-opened door near the beginning of the ride? Also, does that spectral energy tie into the new movie? It somewhat reminds me of the ghosts that come out of the Ark in the original movie. Also, it was nice meeting you at Mickey's House in Toon Town on the grand re-opening day, Sunday. I said hello in Mickey's front room and we ended up in the same room together for the Mickey Mouse meet & greet.
I wonder if Tony Baxter had any involvement on the refurb. I think he is brought in for consulting every now and then.

@07:50 It's a digital "Pepper Ghost".
