@@junkimaker3491 She probably only agreed to marry Beetlejuice only if he agreed to help save Adam and Barbara since he lied when promising that he'll help them after seeing him causing problems especially before she freed him from the model his talking was like he was saying "if I help them, you have to promise to marry me" which she said "okay." (Of course, she could have said his name anytime after 1:54 unless he magically took her voice away preventing her from saying anything especially his name).

@@junkimaker3491 That might be true that Beetlejuice prevented the Maitlands from becoming completely skeletal but, he was still causing trouble by knocking Maxie Dean and his wife out of the roof and then he caused Otho's clothes to rip off, and it's unknown if he was going to do something bad to Lydia's parents (Charles and Delia) next causing her to not care about promising to marry him with him being a troublemaker (just like Juno the Maitland's caseworker said).

Can we just talk bout how ICONIC Wiona Ryder is. She was Lydia, in beetle juice. She was Veronica in heathers. And now she is Joyce on Netflix’s most popular tv show: Stranger Things.

+VoidedMirror The only ones who knew that Beetlejuice's name is a spell is Barbara, Adam, Juno, and Lydia but, Lydia's parents Delia and Charles don't know about it. I'm sure if Charles knew, he would have been able to say it since he was just tied up by the arms but Delia was all grabbed up and covered in the face by the hat.

Lydia does try, but Beetlejuice took away her voice. Adam and Barbara also try saying his name, but they've just recovered from the exorcism; Barbara is particularly exhausted from the experience. Delia and Charles don't know his name and don't realize that saying it three times will banish Beetlejuice.

for me the scene at 0:03 "shall we?" is the best acting scene. Incredible plastic and animated, I sincerely believe no actor ever got close to that, he is a more like a cartoon than a person. I believe the director told Keaton play your character how you want it, we don't care and then Keaton went in there with no direction and no constrains and unleashed everything he could and did a hell of a job.

You can thank Ray Harryhausen as his movies inspired many directors including Tim Burton.

Fun fact: There is a rhyme that states what each color means if you choose it for your wedding dress. for red it goes "Dress in Red, you'll wish yourself dead." Seems kind of appropriate, doesn't it?

i just love Lydia’s dress! Tim burtons movies are truly something else I’m so glad I grew up these kinds of movies!

The practical effects in this movie is outstanding!

Beetlejuice used to be Juno's assistant (which incidently means he committed sucide). While there he abused his position and got into trouble with a very powerful entity (God?) who placed a curse on him. He cannot enter the mortal world unless summoned and can be instantly banished once there. It greatly limits him, like a leash would. He desperately wants to be free of it so he can haunt who he wants where he wants when he wants. The only way to break the curse is to get married.

His black & white striped humbug suit is also symbolic of his imprisonment.

In the cartoon Lydia is 12 years old. Beetlejuice is her friend because that is all she's ready for at the moment. She says as much to Prince Vince.

The cartoon de-aged her to fit the younger child/preteen audience that watched it. In the film & musical, she's 16, the legal age of sexual consent.

@@TherealRNOwwfpooh In the original script, she was supposed to be 12. Lydia looks more 14 or 15 in the movie.

When it's really important, the Maitlands prove that they've got a lot of guts (Barbara riding the sand worm, then jumping off and 3:21 - 3:24).

This was a fun movie.

If someone says Beetlejuice's name three times while he's out of the model, does that mean that he goes back inside the model and back inside the grave he was inside?
