Beethoven was not always deaf. He BEGAN losing his hearing at 28 or 29, by which time was already an accomplished composer. His hearing was completely gone by the time he was 45. Furthermore, he wrote this piece originally so that his neighbor, a young pianist of whom he was particularly enamored, could learn to play it...(Thus the title, "FOR ELISE"). But upon listening to her play, he realized she was not very good. So he wrote the simple beginning so that even she could play it. Then later, he discovered she was already engaged, and wrote the second half so that she could NEVER play it.

Beethoven wrote Fur Elise for a student of his whom he was in love with. She was a mediocre player, so he wanted to write something that even she could play and impress others. Midway through writing it he found out she was engaged to someone else so he made the rest of it very hard and complicated so she couldn't play it. We stan a petty legend.

Story behind the composition: Beethoven wrote Fur Elise for one of his students that he fell in love with. Since she wasn't the best at piano, he made the beginning part really easy for her. However, after learning about her engagement, he was heartbroken and wrote the rest of the song so hard that she'would never be able to play it.

You can hear the shift. If you listen closely enough, you can almost hear at 1:10, “But she’s engaged.” the entire mood of the song changes after that moment. His anger and sorrow saturate the song slowly after that. His rage is demonstrated in the difficulty and the sorrow shown in the constant repeat of the chorus.

When Beethoven passed away, he was buried in a churchyard. A couple days later, the town drunk was walking through the cemetery and heard some strange noise coming from the area where Beethoven was buried. Terrified, the drunk ran and got the priest to come and listen to it. The priest bent close to the grave and heard some faint, unrecognizable music coming from the grave. Frightened, the priest ran and got the town magistrate. When the magistrate arrived, he bent his ear to the grave, listened for a moment, and said, "Ah, yes, that's Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, being played backwards." He listened a while longer, and said, "There's the Eighth Symphony, and it's backwards, too. Most puzzling." So the magistrate kept listening; "There's the Seventh... the Sixth... the Fifth..." Suddenly the realization of what was happening dawned on the magistrate; he stood up and announced to the crowd that had gathered in the cemetery, "My fellow citizens, there's nothing to worry about. It's just Beethoven decomposing."

I’d like everyone to know that this was originally made to be super easy, for a woman Beethoven had a crush on and was teaching. He made the song for her. But when he found out she wasn’t interested in him, and in fact was dating someone, he got mad and added the hard parts because he knew she still struggled and was mad at her.

I like this song. I like that it starts with that same pleasant 'riff' and just as you get used to it and you're like "this is nice..." It drops a mini solo on your head like a sheet of concrete.. Then goes back to the nice little main riff as if nothing happened.. Then, as you're just getting relaxed and enjoying that little riff again... Boom... like an anvil waking you up by landing in your lap.. I swear, whilst it was being written, some one said that that little riff was a bit easy... and Beethoven was like, "hold my candelabra"

Beethoven wrote Fur Elise for one of his students that he fell in love with. Since she wasn't the best at the piano, he made the notes really easy.

*Therese was one of Beethoven's student whom he fell in love with. She was Not good at the piano, so he made it easy for her. Unfortunately, Therese rejected him. Beethoven was heartbroken and made it hard for her to play.* But this is not the original one, the piece which we know today is transcribed by a musician scholar, Ludwig Nohl. Beethoven loved several women in his life. So nobody knows who Therese (or as some believe, she might be Elise) is.

This was supposed to be easy but for a man who was madly in love, you can hear the emotions he tried to hide, add the fact that his deafness didn't stopped him from writing this, I felt dumped for only playing the first 45 seconds of the whole song ☺

Absolutely correct. For people who make and play a song, they use the music to tell emotions through the song rather than them actually mentioning them. Like if you hear a high and fast part on violin, for example four seasons summer. The high and fast part represents the pain and anger vivaldi felt

Beethoven was cold with his music writing, some of the transitions into the main section was just clean. Picture this right, you're at war, you're loosing but suddenly feel an urge to fight until your last breath. You start killing and killing and you begin to hear this playing. Your blood runs across your neck as you feel your life slipping away, but never the less, it's beautiful. Every last second of your life, savoured whilst this absolute banger plays until you finally breathe your last breath and pass away in pure peace and ecstasy.

The actual name was "Für Therese". Beethoven did like her but she didn't like him back. He did write it for her, he keept it easy so she could play it. He got rejected, he was sad. He did make it harder to play so she could never play it. He named the song "Für Therese" But his handwriting was so bad that they thought the name was "Für Elise". They did search for Elise, like who it could be. They did found a (I guess) friend named Elise. So the went for the name "Für Elise". If you search on google you can finde a picture. And actually the piece was not realiesed when he was alive, but I'm not sure about that. :) That's the sad story about the masterpiece. Hope you enjoy it! (: (Sorry for my bad english.)

This and Mozart's Turkish March are some of my favorite classical piano pieces. I honestly don't know why I really like this song, it's just so catchy, it doesn't get annoying very quickly like other songs. With the sustain pedal on and I play this at my school, it sounds like freaking music to my ears. Fun fact; (I googled it so it might not be 100% true) Beethoven had a student who he taught Piano, and her name was Elise. She was not very good at piano, in fact she was horrible. Beethoven eventually fell in love with this Elise person. He wrote this piece Für Elise which translates to For Elise in English. He then found out she was engaged and wrote the rest of the song impossible so she could never play it.
