Igor Levit's work on the 32 Beethoven Piano Sonatas has been the most important endeavour of the past 15 years of his life. This autumn will see his new studio recording of the complete sonata cycle released on Sony Classical on September 13 and represents the recorded testament to almost half his life spent in the study and performance of these sonatas. The release of this momentous 9-album cycle is one of the most eagerly awaited recordings for the 250-year Beethoven anniversary.
Levit is performing the complete sonata cycle over the next two seasons in Luzern's KKL (launching in August), Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie (launching in September) and Stockholm's Konserthuset (launching in February 2020). He will also present all-sonata recitals, amongst others, at New York's Carnegie Hall, Washington's Kennedy Center, Chicago Symphony Center and San Francisco Symphony's Davies Hall in May 2020 - more tour dates below.

This, my dear ladies and gentleman, is the result of time spent disciplining the mind and body to hunker down and perfect the art, rather than quickly rush through the repertoire and achieve quick and short-lasting fame. Kudos to the pianists and all other artists of our day who choose to reject the learning processes that have been brought about by the short-lived attention span promoted by the technology of our day. We live in a day where we applaud the results (as we see here) of the intense study and focus required to achieve greatness, and yet are not content to appreciate the process of sweat, toil, and tears that are required to achieve that greatness. The meaning of "hard work" and "intense study" have been re-defined by the mentality of instant gratification, and the arts have paid a heavy price. It is for this reason that we do not see a fruitful abundance of genius, for genius is more than innate talent. It is the result of a person who, no matter the skill level and competence, combines passion with dedication and sacrifice.

GREAT legato with LONG line... beautiful singing tone... very clear in the fast stuff... without sounding tooo pointy... and LOTS of drama... VERY nice Beethoven!
Incredible! Thank you for advertising this video. First time I voluntarily watched an ad to the end.

Me too - I mean watching an add - to the end - captivated -
Seit dem Podcast bei NDR Kultur bin ich begeistert von Igors Können und bin dankbar dafür, dass er mir Beethoven noch ein Stück näher gebracht hat.
A top pianist. Wow!
Levit has the uncanny ability to play both softly and presto as the same time. His digital fleetness always serves the music; it's not mere virtuosity. His shadings of color and volume combine in this movement with his swift tempo and sensitive touch to create what I think is a thrilling performance, perhaps one of the best I've heard in 40 years of listening to performances of this sonata. Besides all this, Levit is one courageous human.

All of the things you mention are important in this new recording. His is a completely satisfying and powerful interpretation of all of the sonatas.
Utterly flawless. Gifted
A truly gifted pianist. Spectacular! Enjoyed this excerpt so much that I just ordered the complete 9CD set.
Increíble la fuerza y técnica de Igor, su velocidad y amor al detalle me han dejado anonadado. Bravo.

André Aciman's novel "Find Me" brought me to this beautiful piece.

The wonderful thing about Aciman's novels. he always mentions variations or classical music that I don't know and he always makes me search for them so I can read the book while listening to those beautiful and elegant classical variations and sonatas. What a splendid and so complete writer
I would love to hear more short versions (excerps) of classical pieces, I love this!
Lovely! I'm not even a fan of "classical" music but find this music uplifting and inspiring in such a difficult global moment. Thank you!
Perfect! But i can't undetstand for uploading short clip i want to hear all of it
Mr. Levit, the interpretation of that music so perfect and beautiful. And Beethoven says by himself very well by your hands. In adition, on the other hand, your film is attractive, sublime and well done. The montage, the edition and the elaboration of the "screenplay" are sensible, sensory and nice. Congratulation.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Did you hear the harmonics at the end of the recording? Splendid interpretation!
whoah. this is badass and beautiful but yeah i was like.... where'd the middle 12 minutes go? lol effective tho, well done.
He seems pretty good

i love you ,多么美妙的时间
All is perfect. Just a bit too many video angle view changes .... A "slower" video edit would be much appreciated,as the incredibly fast camera changes distract from the music !
I wished Beethoven was the greatest composer of all time. Thanks to Mozart, Beethoven was inspired by him.

I choose Beethoven having the overall edge on Mozart....more gems and changed music. Mozart defined but contained in classical. Both are genius.
Why do camera directors keeping changing camera angles every 2 or 3 seconds. For gods sake just let us concentrate on one camera shot.
What the hell happens at 1:52 ??? Music is CUT ?

Well, here's the full movement, either way kzread.info/dash/bejne/pnyVuLixXaffiJM.html
what's the purpose of these camera angles? See the hammers of the piano and his faces? As a pianist, I am more interested in his technique than the logos of the piano. I feel dizzy
Beethoven als Olympiadisziplin, total an der Musik vorbei
Igor Levit is the best performer of this sonata, he executes it brilliantly. On the other hand... I sure dislike the production of this video. Too laboured? Not to mention reducing this first movement to less than 3 minutes is a bit insulting...
Goonies anyone??
A bit too for my taste but well executed.
Better pianist than Daniel Barenboim

Give me thumbs up!
Nooo too fast at some parts. Otherwise very precise.
Someone should tell the guy this is not a fucking mouse race , this is Beethoven. The tempo is Allegro con brio, not Prestissimo. Don t need to Play double the spend. That s not everything in piano execution
Toller Anschlag… Aber so schrecklich schnell!
I can't play that piece! I play even the first bar extremely horrible on my digital piano!
too fast
Unhörbar
Too fast, waaaaayyyyy too fast.
