Beekeeping on a Budget (DIY Revisited)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A homemade hand-drill-powered honey extractor from 2012 that cost $120 (in Canadian dollars).
It extracted 4 medium frames at a time. Putting the frames in and taking them out was a fiddly affair. The extraction process required one person to bear hug the extractor to prevent it from bouncing all over the place while the other person controlled the drill which was attached to a long stainless steel rod holding the rotating honey "baskets" in place if you want to call them that. But it worked.
I threw it in the dump once I made enough money from honey sales to buy a real extractor. Someone smarter than me with more know-how could probably make an extractor using a food-grade barrel and other clean components that would like work just as well as an expensive commercial extractor. You just need to think it through more than I did and be willing to put in the time to make it. Despite the workout this homemade extractor gave me, I was impressed by how well it worked.
