    Thank you for another great video. I am a first year and purchased the whole series online and completed it. Still have to mail in my worksheets. I absolutely learned so much and how much I did wrong this year. These classes from basic to wintering are highly recommended. I can't explain how much I love this and what these bees have done to my spirit. I can't wait to build more and healthier colonies this coming spring. Thank you

    First year beekeeping and had a drought so did a lot of feeding. Really enjoyed seeing how fast they build out comb and put in honey (when we actually had some nectar!). Hoping I’ve got them built up and protected enough for the North Dakota winter. Thanks for the videos!

    I’m a new bee keeper this year, currently taking your courses. I got two colonies in April, and wasn’t expecting to get much honey but got 110 lbs while leaving a medium super on each hive plus what’s in the deep brood box. Did a walk away split with success and did three cut outs so I now have 5 colonies. They all have survived -5 degree F nights. Cold for Arizona. So been a good first year. Thanks for your videos and courses.

    Question? Why do I need to add food for my bees? My hives have 2 deeps and I allow them to keep the lion share of their honey. I add the queen excluder and put mediums on during non winter months. Are people not leaving enough honey for the bees to survive the winter?

  • @beek

    @beek

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Bill, yes, sometimes people take off too much honey, other times, bees may have not populated well enough to store enough or sometimes winters are long and they run out especially if they are a large size colony. It is just added insurance.

    Hey David, love your channel. Quick question: I've seen so many recipes for candy boards on KZread, it gets confusing. I have made my boards with the insulation like you show them, and plan to use sugar, little bit of vinegar, water, winter b kind and pollen substitute. The ratios of all of these seem to be the thing in questions. Mostly around the pollen and winter b kind. How much of it should i include when mixing with 10lbs of sugar?

Should I move it to a more sheltered area for winter? I’m in Maine and we are dipping into the teens at night 30’s during the day. I have wrapped my hive, but wondering is it necessary to move it?

    Thanks Philip. Go to the website www.honeybeesonline.com and under feeders I think you can either keep watching or add it to a wish list to be notified when they are back in stock

    So how long will the winter be kind last in a really cold winter like in saskatchewan Canada thks

    Hard to say because it depends on how much of their own honey they have and will consume or how cold it is. I like to check on the candy boards every two weeks.

    I am having trouble with small hive beetles. I have tried about everything out there to rid my hives of them and nothing seems to work very well . Guardian entrance doesn’t work . I have applied beetle buster bottom board and that seems to help but it is almost impossible to keep them out . Any suggestions ?

    We are excited about our winter-bee-kind season coming up. Last year they sold out so fast. If you go to our website of the item you can find answers there. The item says sold out now, but will go on sale August 1. But, you can still read all about it such as how long they last. Here's the link: www.honeybeesonline.com/10-frame-winter-bee-kind-with-candy-returns-aug-1-2022/

  • @beek

    Depends on many factors such as size of colony, amount of honey in the hive, temperatures etc. For me, anywhere from 1week to 1 month.

    If you mail in your worksheets filled out, then you will get a certificate of completion, and that certificate shows you have taken a beekeeping course which many municipalities require.

    If you are referring to the winter-bee-kind, we are sold out for the year, but they go back on sale for next winter in August. You have to place your orders early as you can so they are shipped in December once it turns cold.

    Why feed at all if you just left the proper amount of HONEY the bees rely on for their health?

  • @beek

    @beek

    2 жыл бұрын

    Mainly because that would be IF everything was perfect. Sometimes bees fail or are unable to store enough, or winter is longer than expected and they run out of food.
