Toronto's very own Bedouin Soundclash released their enchanting tune "Brutal Hearts" off of their album "Light the Horizon" back in 2010. This gentle yet surprisingly honest creation bears a rich and organic sound involving wooden percussion, light chimes and a smooth bass line to name a few. To top it all off Coeur de Pirate joins lead singer Jay Milanowski for a shivering duet.
Jeudi Records chief and former pro drummer Doctor Dru incorporates loads of soul on his interpretation of the Canadian original. Slight modifications of the Bedouin drums crank up the flavor, while a slappin' snare brings a certain grittiness to the mix. Dru throws in vocal bits as the tension rises and garnishes them with refreshing effects. Jay Malinowski's voice sets in for a chilling sequence shortly before the Doc unleashes the horns. Our general surgeon incorporates a smooth bridge for his patients' waiting-time, but it won't be long until he gets down to business and ready to operate: The scalpel wielding beat-physician and mastermind behind "The Voice of Dru" inserts thundering synthesizers for a magnificent drop, triggering the vital signs of every tweaked out zombie the dance floor has to offer. This man has created a Frankenstein of the night scene.
