It’s nice to finally see UD release a product on time again. This is what MVP is supposed to be about, getting everybody excited for the upcoming season! I really like the blue on the base cards but it does leave UD in an interesting position because, if I’m not mistaken, their box sets used to have blue base as a parallel from the regular goldish white simple base cards. Will the box set be a new colour? Will it simply have the same cards as the hobby boxes now, essentially removing a parallel from retail? Or does this signal a move away from box sets? Either way, I am glad that the base look more finished to me than previous years (except the lack of stats on the back!). An interesting thing to look for will be to see how print runs are affected by Bedard. It appears, based on the stats I saw, autos 1:800 instead of the old 1:400 meaning the print could have been as much as doubled! It is to be expected but I can only imagine the print run flagship will have when it releases with Bedard in the young gun list. Great video as always!

Ya I agree. The print runs will be nuts. It's already happened to a certain extent, based on the Caufield auto odds. UD has also doubled and now likely quadrupled the YGs. The number I'm hearing based on good authority is the 100,000 range. This means CB's YG could fall off a cliff after the initial high frequency trading on the secondary market, before stabilizing. But they will be commons, which makes me think ppl may just own them as a novelty not as a "store of value" (in the econ sense). I think YGs have basically lost their appeal in this auto and tech era.

Yeah I’ve mostly offloaded my young guns from 15-16 and later because included my McDavid Canvas YG because of that reason. The box prices are going up and the print runs are making the cards within those boxes theoretically less valuable over time. People are looking at the current market like a flat timeline without realizing this is a peak in a much longer timeline. Values will fall eventually if the runs keep increasing

The market's so saturated. I'm offloading on COMC and what's most noticeable is it's all short-term memory. Ppl only want the Seiders and Caufields, and a year later they won't want those either. It's the 1990s meets TikTok influencer culture. Newcomers pile in and pile out at warp speed. And the only cards that hold value are the SSP of the flavor du jour.

Sweet, as a Hawks fan I'm pumped for 23-24 product. Apparently Bedard will be in UD series 2... Also, I just broke 6 hobby boxes of 22-23 MVP and pulled 3 redemptions, what are the odds of that??? I pulled the Central and Metro Rookie Redemptions and the #1 overall pick gold redemption. And it's pretty wild too, because I also pulled the #1 pick out of a retail box of 21-22 MVP, and since it was a retail box I would assume the odds of pulling #1 pick redemption out of an MVP box are astronomical, haha...

I'm not sure pn getting a box myself but seeing you pull a Levi has my attention lol #dryden

That was a good box and the Devon Levi is sweet as him and Knies are two of the better rookies. Was glad to see you pulled some good Rookie goalies. The gold super script cards are very sweet along with those Color & Contours cards. I would love to pull a purple Color and Contours card and a printing plate but I struck out in hopes of pulling a redemption as I opened 4 boxes, I was lucky enough to pull a Magenta Rookie Auto and overall I was quite pleased with my boxes. Looking forward to the Ice break. Keep 'Em coming!!!! #dryden

I don’t like the decision by UD to make all of Bedard’s stuff redemptions. It seems to me that that will tank any value in opening old boxes of the product down the road since there would be no chance of pulling him once the redemptions have expired. What are your thoughts on that Fulton? #dryden

Not all his stuff are redemptions just the MVP #1 Pick card is and this is how MVP does it every year. It’s not different just for Bedard.

Paul, in MVP, the #1 draft pick has been a redemption going back to Fleury's rookie, literally 20 years ago. Note that is by design, as CB's MVP rookies are not autos. CB's first NHL game will likely be in October against the Pens, I believe. As for redemptions more broadly, they usually relate to product release dates or whether it is a hard-signed card. In 2015, some products had McDavid redemptions and others didn't. Like 2015-16 Champ's def had a McD redemption as I hit it. They obviously could not get the hard-signed cards in time. There are a lot of examples in the hobby where box prices remain high even after redemptions are expired, which is why I always preach research. But UD also has a raffle with tiers, so they could replace a Bedard auto redemption with another Bedard, or a McdDavid or Caufield.

Yeah, but everyone is sleeping on Arturs Silovs. He was the best goalie in the AHL last year, and acquitted himself well when he came up to join the Big Boy Canucks behind a horruble defense. Thats the Demko sucsession plan when he gets too expensive.

I streamed Silovs in fantasy last year and he was very steady. I don't think anyone is sleeping on him. I collect goalies. He has solid numbers. Few can ever predict where the next great one will come from. Goalies often develop late too. Ask Thomas or Hasek. The next star could be Dustin Wolf, or even a journeyman in the KHL. But, Levi put up Carey Price numbers internationally, and is a World Junior and Olympian. Silovs has also done well internationally at the World Championships. But we wouldn't expect Latvians to get the press a young Canadian Carey Price would. BUF was worse defensively than VAN last year. They def allowed more shots against. They just got better goaltending.

@@Fultoncards Fair. I didnt watch alot of Buffalo tbh. Theyve got some nice young pieces, but i didnt watch enough to het a sense of what their defensive structure was like game in - game out.

Sure it is! The entire point of the hobby is we the people decide what is a true rookie. Criteria will never be dictated by a cabal. Not as long as I walk this earth.
