That's nice. Here in NYC I have not met any HVAC contractor that gives a dam about sealing. Its an unheard of concept here, like an endangered species.

This was very helpful, thank you. I was researching a solution for my leaky air handler, and was wondering exactly how mastic worked. You are the first video that I've actually seen apply it. Mine might need more than one coat . Seems so simple, but it builds a bit of confidence. Thanks again

Nice video man I actually had a customer with a complaint about wet supply grilles. Took off the cover and seen the mildew where the air had been leaking and mixing with the attic air. I swear its the little stuff that makes a big difference

Excellent video now I can seel of my events. Our system is over 30 years old so I’m starting some tear on the wrapping plastic around air ducts. Will the test show you if a system is leaking?

I started taping up my connections. Just sealing the hood alone, increased my heat distribution. Now I'm going along all the exposed basement ducts and taping connections and seams. I've been hearing/thinking about 'duct insulation/thermal beaker' wrap. Something along the lines of 'reflectix'. So the heat loss/exchange through the ducts are reduced. I'm trying to get my furnace and ducts as efficient as possible in -30c winters. I also have improper heat distribution that's why I started fixing. Let me ask, if all my ducts are sealed will it be a problem when I get someone certified to do a tune up and cleaning?

I'm in the process of air sealing my system. Glad you mentioned the uselessness of duct tape! The previous owner of my home didn't see your vid! Lol. Bummer that the furnace in this vid in enclosed the way it is. Much harder to use mastic on the side and back seals. I assume you used either mastic or aluminum tape on the pipes coming from the furnace.

Great Video, I like what you did with the tape at the register hole. I have a fiberglass duct with gaps at the end caps and at the 90 degree connections. I only have access to the inside no the outside. Do I seal it with tape, paste, caulk, insulation foam? Thank you

I have successfully used low expanding insulation foam to seal the interior of ductboard plenums. The foam will stick really well if you apply it correctly. The other options just won't adhere and seal as well to fiberglass on the inside of a duct. I like to use the correct silver metal tape on the outside of ductboard plenums. I usually cover the end caps and stapled overlaps with silver tape and then apply mastic with fiberglass drywall tape to give the seams extra strength. I have seen ductboard plenums come apart and leak cold air into the attic because the seams were not stapled and reinforced.

I've gotta ask, when you threw the "DuctTape" (not real duct tape) over your shoulder, was it intended for a light to go out? Haha

Have you tried aeroseal? I’ve watched a few videos on it. Do you think it’s a scam, or does it really work? And is it worth the money?

Research companies in your area that are qualified to do duct seating using an internal sealant. (Aero Seal) It is costly up front but when properly done, the company should be able to show you a percentage of air loss before and after sealing. Normally it’s quite remarkable. And yes, it will seal all internal walls and areas you can’t reach with this videos tactics

NO sir! You should have used mastic under the insulation not suggesting to put it over the flex insulation! Tape it, zip it, and then mastic it. Once that’s done then you close your insulation!!!
