My Filipina wife and I went there to buy property but we were denied because they have an ordinance that prevents outsiders (non Ivatans) from owning property. We were so disappointed. But I consider myself lucky I was able to visit such a beautiful place. Can't wait to go back.

Jose Vazquezz same experience here. the local government forbids non-Ivatans from owning properties there. sad ordinance but hey....I totally agree with that, though. respect!

Yup. I'm lucky to be Ivatan and my parents inherited some properties as well. Non-Ivatans (we call "ipura) married to Ivatans can buy properties there.

Batanes is unspoiled beauty with very honest and very resilient people, what with almost every typhoon that enters the Philippine area of responsibility passing through this island. Thanks Kulas for posting these videos about Batanes, at least I get to see it up close though not personal but I hope someday I could visit it and savor its unspoiled beauty. I hope you can visit my home province, Marinduque, an island province famous for the Moriones festival held during the Holy Week.

Kyle, where were you able to rent a motorbike? Visited Batanes last Feb and hired a tour guide to get around but going back in July and now that I know my way around wanted to tour DIY this time. What a beautiful place! About 3 hours by plane from Manila. This will be in my bucket list as I really want to visit the church. My recommendations... always apply sunblock Kulas.

I would love to work in that lighthouse even though it probably never used anymore. The vistas are great. And the sea is so blue.
