It always felt like JYP was being a little harder on Nina than the other girls, but now I think I realize why: he saw her potential immediately and wanted to put her in the group, but she was so raw that he needed her to improve super fast or she wouldn't be polished enough to debut right away at his standard of quality. I think he was trying to light a fire under her to practice as hard as she possibly could, and it worked. JYP gets to debut her, Nina gets to live the dream, and we get to enjoy her performance. That's a win all around.

This made perfect sense until I realized he did not treat unpolished Ayaka like this in any way. She lacked the most in skills in season two and got more complements than criticism. I love jyp but I'd be wrong to pretend not to see it.

@@TheDevilSpawn They aren't gods 🤦‍♀️. Please don't sound so sheepish. They are regular people that can do the wrong thing as well. Jyp is a great producer but this here? Revealed his flaw. The sad thing is he didn't show this kind of bias during sixteen. His expectations and standards were consistent and fair amongst all of his contestants. That obviously didn't happen here

I noticed also he stopped after the hidden camera mission were they did a self evaluation. I think he realized he made a mistake in his level of harsh criticism. The level he gave her convinced her that she could never make it and didn't deserve anything. She had really fixed all her dancing issues by the ICY video but he never mentioned it making her believe she was still terrible at dancing.

I had no idea how good JYP’s English was, I didn’t even know he spoke English. I literally just fell backward when he started speaking

i'm a few months younger than her and all i could think of since i saw a guide about NiziU is how talented she is for her age. she has an amazing and special voice, and if she works even harder at practicing dance, she will be a perfect star. jyp did such a smart decision at letting her be part of the group.

JYP called Nina a star at her first audition. He was just pushing her to improve but he always knew that he would put her in the group. Also she’s very popular internationally so that helps too.

actually he never thought of excluding her; From the first he always mentioned that from a producer eye having her i the group is crucial. He was hard on her because she lack on dancing skill so that she push herself even harder; but he he knew she never had any training before so he gave her more detailed explanation than the other girls

@@emg8471 I guess in the eyes of a producer when you see talent you polish it and see how far it can shine. Being stagnant is just the worst so you put a lot more pressure on that talent. If you see they are improving and still have flexibility and room for improvement then that's the perfect candidate.

@@nz.zhin9 Well it's true but keep in mind that they're all casted as people without proper training (Except some Jyp trainees). Also the main point of the first season is to find potential, while the second season is growth of the potential so that's why I think all is good

Wtf now her her dance is very good and it was never that bad actually she just needed a little practice... She never looked weird while dancing they say that because JYP criticized her dancing a lot before that's why they say that she can't dance at all but the girl can obviously dance good... She is a fast learner and that's her advantage on how she got better easily

Nina’s strength is Vocalization and her weakness point is Dancing while Momo’s strength is Dancing and weakness is Vocal. They are both opposite and chosen line up as 9th Members Lol. 🙃🍑

Focusing solely on Nina, it shows how much she was praised, but at the same time wasn't. For every other evaluation their was something JYP had to say. Nina cried during most evaluations and it's probably because her confidence levels were low and she was confused whether she was doing good or not, because of JYPs up and down comments. I don't understand why JYP placed her last, for shock value? But we all know she's a fantastic vocalist and will be a greater one as time goes on💕 And I know comments JYP gave was to strengthen Nina and show her hidden abilities. Based on his comments in her first audition, I think JYP was too worried about her getting too much of an ego and so instead criticized her more than necessary. He wanted to make sure she'd progress, and I think towards the beginning it was good that he pointed out her flaws so she could improve, but I think he affected her confidence way more than he thought he would. She's so young, and I hope that she will be able to regain that confidence and love from her many fans and that she won't be too negatively affected by it all. She was so charismatic and lovable, and she actually improved so much, especially towards the end.

I hope JYP placed Nina last because they want ratings and audience retention time because she deserves higher ranking. Nevertheless, I’m just happy she debut!

junzhi being more mature comes with moving to a country where you don’t know the language. 4 years ago I moved to Austria and didn’t know how to speak German and for school I had to learn it as fast as possible. I learned it in 2 years but I am still learning. When you don’t have time because you are learning then you also don’t have friends. Now I have amazing friends where I live and they tell me all the time how mature I am lol. I am 14.

I think that JYP regretted praising Nina so highly at the initial audition. He had to walk back the praise and he evaluated Nina harshly. He's a very smart man and he systematically broke Nina down and proceeded to rebuild her in the image of JYP talent. The raw talent was always there but he knows how to get the most out of the girls. It's the same way that the military forges soldiers out of regular men

i love the fact that they teach them to sing live while they are dancing. Singing live is really important because I really hate when they choose only pretty faces and when they debut they use only background music and don't sing anything

I agree to an extent but for groups/anyone to dance and sing live is very difficult since both take up all your energy (coming from a choir kid haha) and both require a ton of air usage (I don't know if they are taught how to properly breathe because it takes a while to get used to and practice the different types of breathing) but for those who can do both, they have amazing performances! :D just remember the difficulty of live singing (trying to keep a stable and clear voice) while dancing.

@@Cinnamonhopeful One of the girl who debuted in NiziU has 19 (is not a kid) and she sing and dance at the same time. A lot of kpop groups sing so well and dance at the same time obviously with a background music but you can hear hear that they sing. However, others don't even try to sing only use the a loud recorded voice and that is what bothers me. For example Itzy sing and dance live, but others groups only use a recording and you can only hear their voice in the encore stage (if they win)

as someone who use to be in the competitive dance world and has done multiple auditions including dance/vocals, I can tell jyp really likes her and I would be so jealous of her if I was competing with her. If the judges really don't like you, they wont even say anything and just tell you thank you, or that was fine. the fact that jyp kept givining her strict critiques and still kept her around shows a lot about her. In a lot of cases, the more strict they are the better potential they see in you.

Same. She’s the youngest and has such raw talent. Yes the others may have better technique and dancing skills, but Nina had no formal training before this and is still one of the best and the most powerful singer in the group.

I agree with JYP though. She already has shown how good she is at singing highnotes she should focus on lowernotes, rythem, ect. She should ofcourse still practice highnotes but she doesn't need to focus on making sure JYP knows how good she is at singing highnotes. He already knows that but he wants to know how she does with the other aspects of singing.

I just realized. Nina doesn't cry when she's scolded and criticized. She cries when getting praised and reflecting on what she did wrong and what she regretted. She's a strong girl, a cry baby yes but it's so understandable for a girl at 14 that time. It's admirable how a 15 year old girl could achieve so much. I can't wait for NiziU's official debut, tv appearances, interviews and just everything.

My mom and I rooted for her throughout the entire show! We knew that she could do it. It takes a lot of tears and patience and practice but her vocals are outstanding, there's no doubt about it. So, so proud and happy that she got to debut!

@@aristheia_ You should check Nina's x-factor evaluation. :) She did "a radio show" and played her self-composed intro and background music. She was only 14 then (now 15). That's amazing for her age. So I can definitely see her composing songs for NiziU in the future.

I think JYP really worries her personality. at the first audition, he asked her “are you staying humble?”. He knew she’s amazing but he maybe remembered somi. Nina is really talented, she can debut solo too. somi debuted that way. but it may a bit arrogant... That’s why when she didn’t focus on dancing, he really scolded her. Because she seemed not to do her best. it’s my own opinion. I really into Nina. So please give her the time a little bit more. She will be outshined like a star.

that's how they make a star out of a regular trainee. a trainee should be mentally prepared before he/she can debut because the idol industry is no joke. the criticism is hard for a regular 14 year old, but she didn't want to be a regular 14 year old, she wanted to be a star. she had to prove him that she's not mentally "mediocre". JYP also wanted to see if she'd pass the test. she did and he made her debut. it's called tough love

If JYP didn't debuted her probably SM or other company would go straight to Japan to take her as trainee, this girl was borned to be an idol or an artist. She's just so good! Aside of her vocals her charisma is out standing and of course her visuals! Her dancing skills improved so much in such a short time so I'm sure she's the full package

But she's not Korean... While she is talented, idols in Korea are heavily scrutinized if they aren't at least half-korean. (And even half-korean idols are criticized.) Plus Koreans care more about dancing than vocals.

I'm sure JYP put Nina at last place because he knows that Nina doesn't understand how to stay humble (I mean, it's a little much to expect a 15 y/o to know what that really means) about her natural vocal abilities. She tried so much harder knowing she wasn't doing well, but when JYP praised her, she started to show a bit of slack. I think he just wants to keep his youngest member on her toes.

It is common to see that if a person is very good at singing, dancing will be the weakness and vice versa but it is not impossible to master both. It took time, effort and determination. She just need to get used to the stage and the vibe and she will get the hang of it. Nina does not start as trainee so she was never exposed to cameras, stages, being criticized and how to live as a celebrity. Looking forward to not only Nina but also NiziU's growth in the future

I've been following the show since season 1 episode 1 it was a painful & nerve-wracking ride 😭

Nina is my family's bias and I'm glad she was able to make it into the final lineup. I remember growing up my father (half Japanese and half Australian) said that there isn't a place for people like us in the entertainment industry. My father used to be an actor before he gave it up and became a pharmacist instead. During his time in Hollywood and his brief time in Broadway, most entertainment companies in America wouldn't hire him for acting gigs or for commercials. His agent straight up told him most companies aren't looking for mixed or Asian guys. Now that I have a young daughter who is even more mixed than me and wants to become a singer when she grows up, I'm glad she'll be able to have opportunities in the entertainment industry like the ones JYP hires as trainees. Nina has been a role model to my daughter and my whole family was rooting for her. Sure she isn't the best dancer, but she is still so young. I'm sure with more work and training she could be a phenomenal dancer. As for singing, I think there are some limits placed on every individual when they are born. No matter how much training you have, you still need talent to sing very well. Nina was born with that talent and her training has only refined it even more. My whole family is so proud of Nina. Can't wait to see her and NiziU flourish in the future.
