I have a Singaporean friend who actually became a monk in a Chinese Buddhist temple here in SG. He quit his job as a police sergeant and joined the temple, and he totally vanished from the face of the earth.

@@anabell7184 Basically he was my detachment mate in the army but I wasn't that close to him, then after NS he signed on as a police sergeant and most of us lost contact with him (because SPF folks don't go to SAF reservist lol), except for one or two guys whom he was close to. Then I heard from the grapevine that this guy had a last meetup with these close friends where he was all like "Such and such, this is the last time I'm going to see you because I'm going to renounce the world and become a monk, this is our last farewell in this life." Then he became a monk and no one knows what he is up to. We actually found out which temple he was at, but unfortunately I cannot remember its name at all because my Chinese sucks. Anyway I think there's still a small chance of bumping into him again someday, because even monks go home and visit family occasionally, and sometimes you also see monks in their robes walking around shopping centers. Or I could randomly bump into him on public transport or the street.

Hi Koala, It's nice to see that at least the Monks are eating well ... which makes me wonder how they stay relatively slender. I have seen quite a few vids about some of the unusual things that Monks are able to do, seemingly supernatural. Maybe the Monks have to use a "Buddy System" when talking to women to prevent any "Monk-ey business". Safe travels and best wishes.

Hi missKoala👋🏼 I'm not good at getting up early either, and I can't even go to bed early. I ask myself why I was able to wake up early and take the bus or train to school when I was a student, but myself don't answer !😆

@@KoalaTravelSolo Buddhism is a practice that can be followed by anyone. It is a science at the spiritual level that the Lord Buddha discovered by himself in meditation and laid down a method for eliminating suffering, until the end of suffering or liberation from all suffering (Nirvana). If you want to know more about the practice. I recommend that you try having a Dharma discussion with foreign monks at Wat Pah Nanachat, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Because all monks there strictly practice meditation to focus on liberation and see the truth of Dhamma.

Do a lot of Thai people speak English so well, or do these monks come from higher socioeconomic backgrounds and can afford to learn English? Curious.
