You are so right. Had an inmate in my dorm go into cardiac arrest did CPR from k-2. Everyone when I called emergency traffic got there, asked what are you doing he's breathing he was not I didn't listen, saved his life. Gained inmate respect, inmates asked why I did it. Because he was another human being. Have been a medic I didn't listen to senior staff.

I'm about to start with the FDC in Ocala, FL. Not fond of going back i to corrections though. Its just the economy is terrible which directly affects my ability to make money in trucking. I left corrections over 16yrs ago for trucking and find myself going back in. My first corrections job was at Georgia State Prison which is maximum security. Responded to a fight in dorm next to mine but was actually a stabbing. Still worked there another 2+ years till i moved to Kentucky and worked at a minimum security facility. Much different there. Didnt have to use force or beak up fights at all there. Oh, and if you work lockdown dorms then expect to eventually have feces and urine thrown on you at some point.

Cut your teeth on the state but Federal has more pay, better benefits and in my opinion a better union. Brad your video is great. As I say I will spray you like a roach! I had a few incidents as a Sgt. Where an inmate asked me to bring him a cheeseburger from McDonald's in front of my warden and asked for another jolly rancher, which I never gave to said inmate......sounds stupid but he tried to punk me out in front of Rank. I sent him to the bucket and wrote a case on him, as he was trying to compromise me and the security of the unit...yeah cheeseburger and jolly rancher.....see the inmate said if I gave him a jolly rancher he and could have the same taste in our mouth....sick inmate got the paper on him.

Where do you think most inmates get cell phones, dope any other illegal contraband? They pay nothing to the officers, an inmate comes along and says hey, my family will pay you a couple grand if you bring me a 40 dollar cell phone. That's one of the reasons they do a credit check, and ask so many questions in your interview process. People with credit issues, are more apt to take bribes and money to bring in contraband

@@Zer0Mood well they are checking it here in TX. And you think it's trivial, but it's part of the hiring process. We are hurting bad for officers here in TX as well. Really hurting. Even at the county level they are running credit checks as part of the hiring packet. I went thru credit check, background check, lie detector test, psychological testing, visit with a psychiatrist, they called at a minimum 6 people I know and spoke to them at length. Being desperate for officers, doesn't negate the need for thorough background checks. Or you end up with a bunch of officers who think more like inmates and your whole system is flawed.

I work for CDCR. Did the 16 week academy in 2013. The department has changed quite a bit since then. I've noticed that the leadership is indeed whacked. The higher brass get a hard on trying to burn staff for anything and are quick to dismiss violations from inmates. Its ass backwards. Staff will burn other staff members. These inmates act too needy and complain about everything. The department treats inmates better than the sworn staff. I get 602'd all the time from inmates because I actually do my job. ..Its pretty fucking sad! I do 2 double shifts and 1 single shift per week. I make 98K year plus an additional 50K year in benefits and I still get 4 days off per week I run a construction business so this job enables me to do that. Overall the job pays well and the benefits and shifts swaps are why I stay. I trust nobody there except for a few solid officers that have time in. The newer officers for the most part have drank the pussy koolaid and have no business working in a prison IMO. The days of joking around with your partners to build camaraderie are a thing of the past because the department encourages staff(especially new staff)to be thin skinned and offended by anything. My suggestion if you go into working as a Correctional Officer: listen to the advice of the seasoned staff, keep your mouth shut, do your job in a respectful manner, dont over familiarize with staff, and get a life outside of the department.
