Always a joy to watch your videos! Now, I've never done a children's book, but I've done loads of art for clients and many of your suggestions help in a lot of creative worlds. And I learned the heard way sometimes - if you make an expensive mistake once, you tend to remember it next time, haha! I think the two most valuable things I insist on now are two you brought up as well - communicate up front, get clear direction and set expectations, etc... and then stick to your boundaries. I have done loads of patent illustrations for attorneys and something that would happen is that the patent design might change, and the illustrator (me!) would need to modify a stack of drawings to reflect the change. So I learned I needed to let my clients know I would work from the information I was given, and if I had already completed the work and the drawings needed to be changed, there was going to be a charge for that. (it's amazing how quickly attorneys learn to check their information before giving it to me now! Haha!) I think I'd love to write a book, but maybe not a children's book - I might scare little kids 🤪 But some sort of illustrated book might be lots of fun! Thanks for the insight into the back end of this profession... it's valuable information!

Oh thank you for sharing your perspective! I think most problems will be solved by right communication, it's never asking too much. But we tend to assume it what people wants in different perspectives. I am still learning the process. I like scary illustrations for children's books, though, like those in Tim Burton's movies. I am curious to see what they would look like in your style. Ah I have an idea! Okay, you gave me new video idea hehehe...✨

@@ogawachikako Hello, hello! I've been working on a "scary" children's short story and I think I'll post it as one of my videos - would you mind if I mention you and your channel as my source of inspiration? (I would also mention that your style is much more pleasant and "whimsical" as one of your videos noted 😉) I just wanted to give you the option in case you'd prefer not to be mentioned. Hope you are well!

@@ogawachikako Thank you so much! I hope you'll enjoy the video too - it was super fun to make. The gothic story type isn't for everyone, but... hey, you practically twisted my arm! (kidding!) I'll have the video up Wednesday morning. Thank you for your continued encouragement!

Your consultation questionnaire template looks really useful. I'm a freelance illustrator for board and card games, but I've been approached a handful of times about children's book illustration and I've always been a bit too overwhelmed about how much work that would be, honestly. I would have this arbitrary list of questions in my head for the client about their project, but just letting them look over this questionnaire would be SO much more helpful for them and for me! Thank you!!!

Oh, I am so happy that was helpful^^ That's so interesting; I've never worked on board games or card games before! Illustrating children's books for clients requires a really solid process to ensure that both clients and illustrators are on the same page at each step, avoiding back-and-forth😅 I'll share more information and my questionnaire in the future! Thank you for watching the video and encouraging me^^ Let's keep going!

Saving this video for the future in case I get requests to illustrate children's book again :D My main takeaway is probably setting boundaries. Since I like drawing, and most the time I draw for free anyway, I never gave much thought about time and effort, and getting compensated for those in change orders. Probably because I never thought of seeing this from the business point of view. So thank you for that tip!~ I noticed also that you're close to hitting 1k subscribers!!!! Things are getting exciting Chika!!!!!! What are you gonna do when you get 1k subscriber? Live stream? Sing a song while playing ukulele? Or are you gonna create a character named 1k-Man (like One-Punch Man)? Just kidding! Can't wait ^^

I really can't believe this big achievement! I already decided to get a sweet chocolate cake for myself, but speaking of video content... I want to do something that I could appreciate audiences (and you!), Let me think about it... A brain storming time!!hehe 😎✨ I hope you have a lovely weekend🎵
