I think I might get your book for my mother. I am Non-Binary but she doesn't really understand and keeps gendering and deadnaming me, and we recently discovered that she has 2 nieces and 2 nephews, not 3 nephews and a niece. Golden Gaytime is definitely real, it's an ice cream brand that's been here in Australia so long the name meant something different when it was made, and it survived the intervening decades by being really nice ice cream and because kids would buy one and have a giggle about the name. They put out a few alternate flavours a few years back like the unicorn one and birthday cake. We're surprisingly adverse to changing long-named brands which is probably why it's survived this long, like people were up in arms over recent changes to a brand of candy and a brand of cheese because one was named after a racial stereotype about native Americans and the other was a straight up racial slur

In the Cheese's defence the slur like many slurs takes existing words and adds different context to it. In the cheeses case it was the guys surname so it's not like he thought ... hmm this cheese should be named after a reacial slur for black people. There's a guy in the Iliad with that name so it's not exactly new one either. It's a bit like all those girls named Karen - their parents didn't know someone was going to take it and make it synonymous with crazy entitled women and should they have to change just because of that. Eventually the cheesemakers company changed the longstanding name but it kind of irks me that they had to in a way because that almost makes me feel like bigots got a win by twisting something that was totally unrelated to bigotry so much that innocent people had to change the name of their product because of it.

@@dietotaku hi, it's me. I went through a very lonely period- I had good friends, but I wasn't finding anyone to date (whole host of reasons). For whatever reason, I had a serious thought about dating a good female friend- we already spent a lot of time together and she was light years better than the young men in my life. I have it done serious, serious thought, but I decided that I didn't like her like that, and I wasn't interested in any woman that way. Further I decided it would be unacceptable to try to date her just because I was lonely because that would be using her, and I didn't (still don't) want to be that person. Believe me, I over thought this. I like women, but I don't lust them.

@@Asongbook I wouldn't call that choosing to be straight, though. It sounds more like you just came to the realization that you aren't attracted to women. @@dietotaku I'm convinced most of them are actually bisexual... especially after hearing multiple people a generation or two older than me (I'm a millenial) get that "epiphany" when their (grand)child came out to them (in whatever LGBT+ way) and talked with them about it. I'm bisexual myself and have dated two of the three girls I had a crush on. All three relationships with them ended absolutely horribly and I have actively chosen not to include women in my dating pool anymore and would only consider a relationship with a woman if she's very obviously a catch (in regards to her personality). It's not that big of a deal for me because my attraction to women and men isn't a 50/50 split (more like a 10/90 split) and I just favour men in general. 🤷🏼♀️ Some people also think you have to be equally attracted to women and men in order to be bisexual, so they still label themselves as straight when they're actually most likely bisexual. I've met a few people who genuinely thought that and then soon after labelled themselves proudly as bisexual...
This year I'm going to the pride parade. I don't like being touched but I'm offering free dad hugs because my momentary discomfort doesn't matter much when I can make a difference in someone's life. If I can help people feel wanted and loved, my life was well lived.

Im ace and my parents would only hug me if I was injured or if my Dad was drunk when I had to go apologise for something he said, then i'd get a hug and very quietly whispered: me too. Beyond that, I disliked being hugged because it went on too long, hurt and in the case of some weird people, involved being groped. Are there really kids starved of touch that are negatively impacted by it? Why would you want that? I dunno maybe its just me but I never know how long a hug is meant to last? Five seconds? Ten? Many times I nearly pull back too early and go back into it because I'm worried it'd make it too awkward, but most times I just brush it off and subconsciously try alternative body language a tiny bit later. The lemon bars started as meme in 2018. It was just completely random. I guess the original meme featured a gentleman in a tuxedo holding a tray of lemon bars, with the greeting, "welcome to the Bi side! Have a lemon bar." And, it just took off like hotcak - er - lemon bars. Also, I found a couple of dictionaries with entries for 'lesbianic', with the definition: "of or pertaining to lesbians." (WordSense Dictionary and Glosbe Dictionary) And finally, Golden Gaytime is a brand of crusted ice cream bars in Australia.

Yup, children don't hate unless they taught to hate. And they're not confused in the slightest by someone being LGBTQ+. @Stripes socially, people are expected to demonstrate certain characteristics based on their sex. @Stripes Try explaining the enforcement of gender roles in society to a 5 year old in a way that doesn't leave them utterly confused. No, you can't do that, because that's what we think the OTHER gender does. Kids don't need an explanation of gender, because they aren't confused until people start policing it. For most kids it might not even occur to them.
@strangejune
Жыл бұрын
@Stripes Actually, that's the exact opposite of what I said. Maybe you don't remember being a kid, or maybe you just happened to meet the standards that society expected you to. Kids do not understand gender roles, and the moment you put pressure on them to act a certain way, they become deeply confused, and often ashamed if they don't already fit in. Internalized transphobia doesn't grow on trees.

Hey Jamie...Golden Gaytimes are an Ice-cream here in Australia. They are delicious. The advertising slogan/catchphrase was "It's so hard to have a gaytime on your own" This is the Wikipedia description "Golden Gaytime is a popular ice cream snack that is made and distributed by the Streets confectionery company in Australia, and first released in 1959. It is a toffee and vanilla ice cream dipped in compound chocolate, and wrapped in vanilla biscuit-like "crumbs" on a wooden paddlepop-stick."

Story time: I didn't come to the realisation until a while ago that my sisters and I had two mums at one point. For quick context, our parents got divorced when I was about maybe 4 or 5 years old (I don't remember) and our mum is bisexual. Mum met a woman (I'm gonna call her L because I don't wanna say her full name) who started living with us, and as I said earlier I didn't really understand because I was like 6 and I didn't even know LGBTQIA+ existed. I don't even think I questioned it, I was probably just like "This is normal." I'm not sure if my sisters who where like 8 and 3 at the time questioned it either. Anyway, we where a happy family. And we would sometimes visit L's sister and her family. Also, my sisters and I lived with our dad on Mondays and Tuesdays, and with our mum(s) on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and then every other Friday/weekend it would be whatever. A few years later mum and L broke up. To wrap this story up, I think it's pretty cool that my sisters and I had two mums. I probably should've explained a bit more, but I was lazy.

That’s so cute!!! My uncle and aunt and their twin boys my cousins live in Texas. They were 9 when this happened. we had a trip with them and their like “this is the kids table” and they said to me “your boyfriend could also sit here” I was questioning my sexuality and said “what if it a girl”(im afab) they had a long pause and said in a kinda disgusted voice “that’s not normal” and that broke my heart now I feel so restrained around them I’m scared to tell my parents because idk if my mom would choose me over her brother. I wish my cousins could be like your nephew.
One of my favorite conversations I remember seeing shared online was somebody saying they didn’t want their kids to see a gay relationship on tv and turn gay and the response was that’s like saying you don’t want them to see a black person on tv and turn black and the first person said “they don’t have a choice” to which the second person responded “exactly” in a kind of mic 🎤drop tone. I probably butchered the exact conversation but you get the gist, it was hilariously perfect regardless!

The whole 'being gay is a choice' argument automatically implies the person making it has made the choice to be straight, and only a bisexual person has the ability to make that kind of choice. So what they are really arguing is that they are bisexual and that majority of the 'straight' population is actually bisexual. The idea that the majority of humanity is bisexual actually makes a lot of sense, when you understand that the rules laid down by religion are specifically about controlling the behaviour of a population to benefit the elite. So it makes sense there would be a need to outlaw homosexual behaviour to force the naturally bisexual people into heterosexual relationships which is more likely to increase the population and more likely to reduce happiness and individuality, thus making the population more controllable and abundant.

_"The whole 'being gay is a choice' argument automatically implies the person making it has made the choice to be straight"_ I get what you're saying, but that doesn't follow logically. Conservatives tend to have a very rigid world view, where certain things are seen as the default. Being cishet is the norm, and deviations from that norm is obviously a choice due to "moral failings" when you hold those backwards views. So e.g. openly trans or bisexual people are either sick/corrupted and need to be "helped" (conversion therapy is literal torture), or they're inherently bad and Matt Walsh wants them *gone.* Basically if you're not following the cishet lifestyle, you or your parents must be/have done something sinful.
3:47 I would be happy being myself but the hate and vitriol around me was so real that internalised all the s**tty energy and became toxic waste. It’s still a journey to be happy for myself.
