BeCOME an Ally : How to achieve gender equity | Gavriella Schuster | TEDxCherryCreekWomen

Become an Ally: breaking through the gender equity divide. Ignited by digital transformation and a global pandemic, the world is finally uncovering the gender gaps and inequities that have plagued women in our society for generations. Today, through technology democratization, purpose-driven leadership and male allyship we can close the gap of inequity and create a new narrative. As women entrepreneurs and leaders, we can use our courageous voices to step into powerful leadership roles, inspiring others to become agents of change. Through connection, outreach, mentorship and empowerment, we build healthier workplace cultures, attract new employees, customers and investors, increase opportunities for all women and meet the needs of the next generation of leaders to stimulate a new economic revolution. Together, we no longer remain invisible. Gavriella Schuster is a C-level Microsoft leader who is passionate about recruiting more women and minorities into the technology sector. At Microsoft she has grown a P&L greater than $6.5B and currently leads their global portfolio of channel partners that reached $1 trillion in ecosystem revenues. With 20+ years of leadership expertise in digital and cloud transformation roles, her strategy and execution expertise spans all aspects of business model and product development, launch, marketing, sales and partner development. She leads the global recruitment, enablement and engagement of Microsoft’s fast-growing partner ecosystem. Additional areas of her specialization include licensing models, digital marketing and global routes to market. Gavriella specializes in starting up and turning around businesses by inspiring a vision for future customer relevance and engaging the team in developing the roadmap. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Gavriella, it is crucially important we keep remembering that position and being known isn’t enough to overcome ego, arrogance, and pure laziness in the boardroom, conference room, and office (and apparently KZread comment section). Thank you for sharing the experience and for your leadership in being the change.

How are women equal? You keep making these silly claims with no evidence.

@@lockandloadlikehell How are they not equal? Every human has different strengths and abilities, to say any one is better than or less than is just ridiculous. We can not function as a society without the unique gifts each individual brings to the collective.

Not just gender equality, but equality among cultures as well. Voices of those often not heard need to be raised up and supported so that their perspectives ARE heard.

If you want to be able to compete, have the skills and physical and mental capacity to compete. No clue why women keep claiming they are equal.

Incredibly brilliant and so simple. No one is being silenced, no one is worth more than the other, we just need to be heard, to listen, diversity brings so much more potential and success. Fabulous presentation by a brilliant woman

My wife does a mentoring course for young ladies in their late teens and early 20's. She worked in tourism for 20 years before she decided to start this course. What she always reminds them is that they have a voice and it will be heard if they ensure it is - which means knowing your worth and knowing that you count. Something my wife has always been adamant about was when men have not listened to her, she puts on her "Mom" vibe, hand on hip, chin tilted down and eye brows raised as she slows her speech "Do you need me to explain that again or did we grasp it the first time around?" and they almost always immediately back her and up and encourage her. I think all women need to tap into the fact they are in control, you have total control over the switchboard of life - own it.

8 Million to get to gender equality... It would have bit a touch of a bitter taste to have to see your Daughter face the same and more challenges that you did. I really appreciated this talk and I will be coming back to it. There's a lot to take from it. Thank you Gavriella

Simple, direct, clear. This steps are so clear and easy that it amazes me this isn’t common knowledge. They could be applied to all business models successfully, even better that the focus here is on women and building a culture that is inclusive and empowering. My partner and I have been looking for videos to educate some friends of ours. This is perfect.

Oh! I know that feeling! Being surrounded by men in a business setting and having to build yourself up to get the words out when they are all just free flow saying whatever they want. I always feel out of place despite all I have done for my company! Say it louder and get this message out!

You have to adapt to the situation you are in. Expecting others to change for you is unrealistic. Fix the problem yourself. You can do it. You don’t need allies. If I was in a room full of women, I wouldn’t expect them to change their communication style to make it easier for me, and believe you me, I have been in that situation plenty of times. Stop demanding men change. This is not our issue. It’s your issue.
