INFO: Beck is an american singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from California, US. He grew up in a time when folk and hip-hop was on the rise. In his 20s he moved to New York and joined the Anti-folk subculture, which you can easily hear traces of in his earliest albums. He rose to fame during the 90s, and has ever since then kept a sturdy growth as an artist.

oK I guess that Midnite Vultures is badly commented in the video. Tommy I'm glad to find a partner in my absolute love for that album. That album is not only a masterpiece for me but the influence and the impact that it had is huge. It litteraly changed my life. There is no one in the world who can compete with me when it comes to importance of an album. For me that guy was the guy from the song looser" . I heard it for the first time at a party on muschroom. It did a hell of an impression on me and my friend. The next day I was downloading it on kazza I guess or morpheus. Putting it in the wrong order on a virgin cd. We smoked a join in my car listinging it at top volume. The way that I discovered the album and the artist (beck) is a little bit out of the ordinary. I guess that my favorite album of all time is the beatles white album but the most important album is BECK MIDNITE VULTURES. Dont forget the song midnite vultures and also salt in the wound that you can add to the album. Ok I will listen to charlotte Gainsbour Le collectiommeur ciao!

I'm a big Beck fan right now,the hyperspace album dropped a few months back and it's great, very very good,I'm so happy that there's an artist out there still going that I like their music,I searched for a band to get into for along time, finally found beck again.I had mellow gold and loved loser like everybody else, and whiskeyclone hotel and all the hits off of it,then for me beck kind of fell by the wayside I thought but now 20 years later I can look through his whole repertoire and he is a big-time artist, better in my eyes than Bowie ever dreamed of being. Beck is like Johnny Cash hes a class all his own

14:48 not like theres a massive explosion at the end of the information, plunging into to the beautiful electronic noisefolk that is movie theme, then going into a dissonant eerie soundscape (The Horrible Fanfare), then interrupted by the classic electric guitar and piano approach (Landslide), before traveling into space with a synth sounding like the universe is whispering to you, and then beck's own son is actually whispering to you, and the 10 minute 3 in 1 song ends at the beginning, coming back with the Horrible Fanfare vibe. Totally not any "surprising moments" that he claims aren't in The Information.

Beck is, in my opinion, one of the most talented, creative and brilliant musicians of the 21st century. He consciously changes his sound completely with every album, and generally succeeds. His music is fresh and new and “genre-bending”, and basically what the music industry needs these days, not to sound like an old timer. I love his music; his lyrics are very unique and generally multi-faceted. And don’t even get me started on his acoustic albums, they’re phenomenal and really show his softer side (Sea Change is one of my favourite albums, very direct and melancholy, it certainly affects me emotionally). He’s just brilliant, and certainly never boring. I aspire to be as creative as Beck in terms of songwriting.

I just discovered your channel and was thinking to myself "HE NEEDS TO DO BECK!". But i scrolled down far enough and BOOM, 20 minute video about him!!! Lol. He is my favorite artist of all time with exceptions like Beatles. His bipolar tendencies in his album structure and sound is why I love him so much lol. "The Information" is maybe my favorite album. What you may not like about Beck's albums and song WILL grow on you in time,,, believe me i understand how and why many don't care for a lot of the aspects of his music, give it time. For some reason I did. I kept going back and trying it all on again at different times, and in time my love and appreciation followed lol. I was very young when he hit the scene but have rediscovered him these last 3 years. I feel like he is me (or I am him) in a musically creative standpoint, from the humorous Golden Feelings to Neil Young style of Sea Change and Morning Phase. I love it all. The fact that he's NOT over popular is what makes it even more special to me,, yet,, I wish people appreciated him more lol. Double edge sword there I guess.🤪. I realize this is an older video now,,, but YES, YES, YES, do a fuller documentary on this great man!!!! 👍👍👍

Haha glad you took the time to scroll down. I'm planning to make another one about Beck in a newer format soon. Maybe i'll focus on only one of his albums. Or a certain facet of his career or music. The Information is one of the Beck albums i never really understood. I LOVE Odelay, Midnite Vultures, Sea Change, Guero, Modern Guilt and Morning Phase. But The Information... meh.. Hopefully this album will grow on me as well, like you said. Thanks for resonating! Cheers from Norway.

I had realised I had forgot to mention that on the Information album, every song has a music video to go along with it that you watch if you buy the special edition that has the DVD, or just KZread them. That is a big part of the enjoyment for me sometimes because they are silly but rather entertaining lol. ALSO, you should check out the 3 bonus tracks & songs only found on the Japanese versions (*Inside Out, This Girl That I Know, and O Menina*) , GREAT SONGS! ,, I have purchased a few of these versions, for myself and people I know might appreciate them lol. You can find them on Ebay. Anyway, wanted to throw that nugget of insight out there too if you were at all interested in looking into those parts of that album 👍

Thanks for this video, well explained and detailed on each album. I love his music, he's just a genius but I kinda have that same feeling with Guero and The Information after many plays. Some great songs but it's difficult to listen full in a row. Maybe the tracklist is made that way on purpouse to capture that acoustic-experimental universe you talk about. And somehow Modern Guilt was love at first listen, even if it has a dark vibe but nowdays I choose other albums from his discography more tbh. Aaanyway, deliver those high notes lol and hopefully he replies to that question

Hi there! Great video, keep on making this stuff. Though for me it would be even more interesting to point out the differences between his "acoustic trilogy" Mutations, Sea Change and Morning Phase, being the first from 1998 and the last from 2014. Musically they seem to draw from the same inspiration, but eventually you can hear Beck aging very nicely! Mutations, for me, feels now more of a pure musical experiment in psychedelia and acoustics. Sea Change seems 80 procent driven by pure sadness and is very personal. It also is the first of the three WITH orchestral contributions from Becks father, David Campbell. The last one, Morning Phase, for me seems the most accomplished one, but that's personal. His voice sounds the best at this (st)age! How will he sound when he's 60? Probably damn good!

  • @222Lightning

I can't believe they didn't mention "One foot in the grave" release. Beck is nothing like Nirvana and "Pay No Mind" is nothing like any Nirvana song! However I do love that song.........the ridiculousness of the lyrics takes you back (but it's brilliant, I'm thinking this is what he thinks of LA.....sewers over flowing, giant daffodils(sp!), mutated insects and morgues that are full. I like the mellow Beck that did songs like "Blackhole" and "Nobodys fault but my own". Mutations will always be a special album to me, I had just moved for school and when I hear that I remember things. "Nightmare Hippy Girl" is one of the funniest songs ever "made up" and have always wondered who he had met to give him the compulsion for lyrics about a self indulged clove smoking girl......because I had met one just like the girl described in the song in my youth. In this generation she's the one at the mall wearing all pink w a shirt that says "Blessed", heavy eyeliner walking against traffic vaping at every chance with eyes glued to an $800 dollar phone that's as big as her face!

Sea Change was my favourite album by Beck. Don't blame Rolling Stone for putting on such a pedestal. The 2nd favourite for me would be Mutations. That's not to say that I don't enjoy Beck's experimental side. I loved Midnite Vultures. Beautiful Way was actually my favourite song on that record. I do agree with you about Guero and The Information, the latter of which is my least favourite studio album of Beck's. I loved Morning Phase and Colors too. Odelay was really enjoyable too but I wouldn't say it's his best, at least not for me

One of my favorite Beck tunes is his cover of Halo of Gold, which appeared on the Stray Blues B-Sides compilation. kzread.info/dash/bejne/kYuazLKthrTSj7w.html Great sounds.

Mellow Gold is such a good, crazy and iconic album is shocking to me it seeng it ranking so low in all internet Beck's album lists. Midnite Vultures is so good also and so fun but can't touch Mellow Gold. I like Odelay too very much and Guero a little bit. I realy dont care for acoustic /country or folk/emotional Beck's albums. Only Mutations is kind of interesting, some parts of it.

"The Normie Guide to Beck." You missed the roots of the man that made him so absurdist and yet relatable. Fume, Stereopathic, One Foot...these are where you go to understand Beck. The other albums are solid but really side effects of his core. Normal normie normington

am i the only one that thinks this dude sort of just states the obvious in these videos honestly if you go read an artisits wikipedia your gonna get pretty much the same info not really a point to a video essay that regurgitates common place information

Yes there is. An article is not the same as a video. My point being that a lot of people prefer to watch a video than reading an article. Or what do you think?

Very well done, but the word "guero" is a spanish word and you don't pronounce it with the "G"... im a white boy from san diego, so ive heard this one haha

Hola, soy hispanohablante. Hi, I speak Spanish. I'm going to break it down for you and explain it briefly. The problem here is: the album title is erroneously written. Beck spells it "Guero", which is pronounced like a G (gas, get go, guts). The right way to spell it is "Güero", which is pronounced like a W (white, well, wall). So, it is actually pronounced Wero on this side of Earth, but the album can be pronounced as Gero.
