It’s now pirate tradition with my crew that when the night is done, we take all our fire bombs, set the ship aflame, take out our instruments, and play this song till the ship goes under.

As I was sailing on my solo voyage a mighty Kraken ambushed my ship, it's long tentacles emerged out the water like lightning bolts out the sea, they were large and powerful. I had hours worth of loot and treasure aboard and couldn't afford to lose the ship, so I fought with the fury of 10 men, for over 30 minutes we battled. Three times it threw me off my ship, and three times I swam back to fight. Blood, sweat, tears and steel were flourishing in the heat of battle. Low on health and out of ammo I climbed up to the crows nest and drew my blade one last time screaming "C'mon Beasty". It's tentacles came at me again and again, and I cut it down every time, I refused to die, I refused to lose my loot. But finally it wrapped its large suckers around my ship and crushed the hull, the damage was too severe, and I had no planks to stop the water from gushing in. She was going down, and I could only watch from atop. With no other options I pulled out my instrument and began to play this song to the beast, the Kraken gazed at me with almost a sign of respect, yet deeper in its eyes I sensed sadness. The ship went down stern first, and with it my loot and treasure sank below the sea, but I stayed true to the song and continued playing. Even when I myself slipped below the blackness, I continued to play and stayed true to the song. I may have died and got offline in a fit of rage, but that Kraken will always remember me. This song with this heartbreaking story literally put tears in my eyes. When I am in glorious battle and there is no way to escape, then I stop fighting for the loot and start fighting for my ship. Cannons shooting, swords are ringing, holes are everywhere, water is running to the ship, resources are running low. And then you pick up last plank and you must reconcile that the ship is going down and you can't do anything else than pull out the instrument and play for your ship to honoring its memory.

I swear to the mighty Kraken this got me a huge lump in my throat for several minutes after the first time I heard it. After several months it still sends shivers down my spine.. this is absolutely breathtaking!

My friends and I love this song, playing it all the time, we never knew the name of it however, and thus nicknamed the song “sailing through the sea of hope” or “the sea of hope” for short. These lyrics are so fitting, and brought me to tears

It was a rainy day for the crew but they were still managing to keep the ship up and kicking as they tended to the fort of skeletons that held their bounty. They finally beat back the skeletons and scraped every last piece of loot. The crew was nearing the outpost as the lookout screamed from the crows nest that it was about 200 meters ahead. Suddenly a ship drifts in from behind a large rock. The crew not wanting to lose their loot decided to fight for it. Struggling but managing the crew follows the captains every order. The battle was starting to look up for the crew until they notice some people in the water below their Ship. Two men from the enemy ship dropped gun powder barrels underneath the Hull. The captain screams for everyone to proceed to the upper deck of the ship. Two big explosions come from underneath the ship. The captain knows the fate of their battle and proceeds to grab his hurdy gurdy and climb up to the crows nest as distant cannon fire can be heard. The crew yelling at the captain for his orders question his actions. He replies back with "ABANDON SHIP" the crew follows his orders as the popular Shanty Becalmed can be heard coming from the top of the crows nest. As whats left of the crew swims away one of them asks, "What is he doing". Another replies with "He is doing his duty as a captain by staying loyal to his crew and ship til the very last second", "A captain always goes down with his ship". The crew watches as the cannons blast away the ship til it hits the ocean floor. But the melody did not stop playing. It was continued as Jones took him aboard. Some say if you sail by the Wreck of The Blessing of Athena. The tune can still be heard playing to this day.

Just like the Titanic's musical group, the captain did not stop playing, for the music was to grand to give up on the ship as it sank. Both the captain and the band surrendered to the Ferry for the sake of the crew.

I just experienced one of those “only in Sea Of Thieves moments” I was adventuring by myself on a voyage in the search for riches when a crew of two had the element of surprise upon me. We fought a worthy battle which in my ship was victorious. As the flames faded and the foe had sunk, I saw it. A fresh and brave sailor fighting to his last breath, firing his blunderbuss from the dashing waves. I decided to approach this brave soul with kindness, so I lowered my weapon and swam toward him. We both knew the battle had been fought, so i invited him aboard my ship. Together we sat sail towards the golden beacon glowing at the horizon. His crew mate soon joined the adventure as well! After a long long sail across the map filled with dancing, music, cheering and a mighty fight against the humongous beast -The Megalodon, we finally arrived at our destination. I offered them all our riches which we had collected and thanked them for the adventure and memories. *May the wind be in your sails “Mange Mes Couilles”*

A great game and a great movie

I remember this kid I played with. We were on our sloop named "Alaska's revenge". We had acquired a good portion of loot from shipwrecks, player fights and forts. Alaska was mostly unscathed and we were still pretty stacked on loot. Once we sold our loot, we went out to sea once more, deciding to either do Ashen wind or Tall Tail. While sailing, we got ambushed by a player Brig as well as stumbled into a skeleton fleet. With a Skeleton Gallion and brig on our right and a player brig infront, a battle commenced. It took nearly all of our cannon balls to sink every ship in our opposition. After the battle was over, we collected what loot we could get and went to an outpost then log off after. While we sailed, I played this song upon the deck of this fine battered vessel. Had holes in every place a hole could be with boards to cover them. We were low on supplies and simply drifted across the sea to our final destination. It felt very inspiring, the obstacles we faced in that session.

Me and my friends recently went achievement hunting on Xbox. After doing Glitterbeard we sailed to the end of the world while listening to this on repeat. Nothing will beat this beautiful feeling of singing this on top of Joe Mama and Steve as the Red Sea Swallowed us.

I think this song is absolutely perfect in a scenario where there is so little time until the school is finished and the summer time starts. The time of playing sea of thieves with your crew and sailing towards your new adventures.

Don't get me wrong, the normal becalmed with the hurdy gurdy and all the other instruments are emotional, but the violin gives it it's meaning to me. The meaning of a sort of farewell to your crew, your ship, your fame and glory. Truely emotional, least for me this way. Edit: Oh um.. thanks Catherine for the heart! Not sure if it's just your way of saying, "Hey I saw this" but thank you regardless!

Holy shit dude the Sea of Thieves Alpha nostalgia that just washed over me is insane. All the times we played this song on our long journey, exploring the sea, learning this new game... the best moments in my gaming career...

Kinda reminds me of potc, all the beautiful landscapes and oceans they traveled on to complete whatever whacky journey they had while being pursued by Britain, a dead octopus bearded man, ghosts, skeletons, mermaids and zombies...AND BLACKBEARD HIMSELF. And yet they come out just fine

4 months later and still I have yet to find a song that so perfectly encapsulates the feeling of an adventure and its inevitable conclusion. The final emotional climax of a hard-fought journey finally coming to a close with the setting sun, the end of something you all worked so hard on and had so much fun doing. Truly a song about life and living, no less a masterpiece than any famed work of art. Thank you.

This song brings me hope in this part of my life I’m failing in school and my grandfather recently passed and he used to sit by me and watch me play and this was his favorite song I have hope
