I know this might sound a bit weird, but thank you for your videos. I'm house bound because of my ever growing list of allergens but watching your videos is soothing somehow. I'll never be able to go out on a hunt or anything like that but I find it endlessly interesting to learn about hunting.

Did you know Kelly Kettles were developed in Ireland by farmer and fisherman Patrick Kelly in the 1890s? Since the kettles were capable of quick boil times on wet and windy days they became a hit among fisherman, and only grew in popularity with the outdoor community since! The functionality of the kettles has evolved to offer even more, including a fire-base and kettle chimneys as additional cooking surfaces

We've had the Kelly system for 3 years now. It is fantastic! I did a side-by-side boil water test with the Kelly and a twig stove, a nesbit chemical stove, and Firebox stove. Winner? Kelly, followed by Firebox. The others work, but not nearly as efficiently. The Kelly and Firebox systems are really well designed and have lots of flexibility.

I'm the happy owner of a Kelly-Kettle Scout model. I'm sure this item will be an excellent addition the offer of your shop. I don't know how well known it is in North-America, but here in Europe several manufacturers offer models in different sizes since many decades ago. I would strongly advice potential buyers to use stainless steel versions, and not aluminum. For 2 reasons. First of all, aluminum cook ware should, and is, phased out because of health concerns. Second, the direct heat from the fire rapidly and increasingly softens the aluminum and deforms the whole set-up to the point of needing it to be re-shaped constantly. Even if the stainless steel is a bit heavier, go for it. This said, I there would be a titanium Kelly-Kettle to come out one day, I would consider it, even if the price would be very high, I presume.

I have been a HUGE fan of the Kelly Kettle system for years for the reasons you lay out in the video. Glad you're offering them on Self Reliance Outfitters. I would never want to be without the base camp model whether for camping or emergencies because the primary thing one needs to do in either situation is boil water and NOTHING does it more efficiently. To be able to convert it to a "stick stove" as well seals the deal. I prefer the Pathfinder bush pot and fry pan which work with it just fine but having a pot and lid that pack up inside the kettle is compelling.

Fine acoustic music on this video. I never got on so well as I hoped to do with my Kelly Kettle set: I had a larger model but it still did not boil much water for what appeared, at first glance, to be its packing volume. It did not help that I forgot the warning NOT TO LEAVE THE PLUG IN THE WATER SPOUT when boiling up. About the time I remembered that, the plug blew out! Hot water sprayed everywhere. Nothing wrong with the small 'twig-style' stove. It did what it was first designed to do: brew up and provide a hot lunch for road workers in Britain. There is no doubt that it is a good piece of kit in wet weather with some breeze. The stove is well-screened on the sides and the bottle shelters the fire from the elements. It also makes a good teaching kit for a class of individuals who want to build their own fires and purify water and reheat a small can of hash, stew, soup.

I read this, this is part of the post, from Kelly Kettle on some UK bush craft site Says new kelly kettle stuff coming out this summer The Kelly Kettle company is in its 4th Generation. Our kettles have been copied over recent years (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery) yet we continue to be inventive and are first to bring you bespoke cook sets, a pot-support for cooking over the chimney, stainless steel kettles and cook sets. We also have some exciting new, yet simple, bespoke products in the advanced design stage which will be launched this summer.

You really know you're Canadian... Long ago when I was 15 yrs old I came home from school hungry as usual. My Pa asked me if I'd like a hot sandwich, and I said absolutely. Now I knew we didn't have much and it was just me and my Pa in those days but he set about and fixed me up a hot sandwich smothered in gravy. After voraciously devouring this delicious meal, he asked me how I liked it. I told him "Pa that was an awesome sandwich but where did you get the beef I thought we were all out of food"? He said "son that wasn't beef that was beaver leg, see there on the counter there's more". I looked on the counter and sure enough there was a broiled beaver leg and the left overs of the other. I should have known because our old friend the trapper was sitting there at the table chuckling to himself over his hot tea. First and only time I've ever eaten beaver. :)

beaver is actually delicious, especially when stewed, it almost has a pulled pork texture. I always recommend stewing freshly killed meat to make it tender. Fresh meat needs to be aged to tenderize and reduce the affects of rigor mortis but there are exceptions depending on the animal and size

hey, how long would a pack basket like that last under daily use? I have one, just never used it. My dad still has one from 30+ years ago from when he used to trap, except his is all broken from being in the shed for years and years. Stuff got thrown on it causing damage of course. If I would oil mine up would it help it live alittle longer if I used it? They are pretty expensive for me but I bought mine at a flee market. The bottom was blown out in a corner but I put a piece of pine board and tied it up with raw hide. Fixing it up like new! Also got any videos planned on firearms, Journal of the yurt "style"? I understand you're busy! Happy holidays from Canada!

Lost in the debate below and in the video above is the fact that there is available (or you could yourself fabricate) an insert for the chimney that enables you to cook in a pot or pan WHILE you're bringing your water to boil. By the time the water is ready for coffee or tea, the bacon & eggs (or steak, stew, etc.) are cooked, also. Try that with your gas system! When not in use, the insert (2 flat, slotted metal pieces that make a cross to hold your pot) slip easily into the chimney when you pack up. You handle the hot pieces with the pot grabber in the kit.

The main advantage seems to be speed. Additionally, carrying water in the container is probably possible. No need to carry fuel, as the plan would be to make fuel-but that goes against the concept of speed (processing fuel). I’d like to see a side by side comparison to a jet boil with similar capacity as far as weight and times (assuming no time required to find / prepare fuel on the kettle). Of course, the jet boil fuel is expensive (and is a finite resource):
