True but since he owns and his last name was supposed to be LeGume I say I keep him as a rich rude hunter who for the wedding proposal decides to wear blue, powdered wig and high heel shoes and also pays attention to the Bimbettes and assures them their rendezvous will continue even when he marries Belle and maybe perhaps have Margurite as his mother rather than Belle’s aunt.

It's amusing how Gaston looked like a 18th century intellectual like Rousseau, Voltaire or Karamzin. The man who would have become the symbol of dim-witten manliness was a (sort of) snobbish gentleman! No wonder they picked up Le Fou for some comedy relief.

Yep while I’m glad they kept his manliness I wished they still kept his last name LeGume and still rich(but spending way too much money) hence why he owns a tavern and have him wear blue when proposing to Belle and maybe keep Margurite as his mother.

While I do LOVE the final product of Beauty and the Beast, I kind of wish Disney as another feature would give us the full story or reel of this version or Aladdin with his mother. It would allow people to compare and see what changes were made while still taking nothing away from the Masterpeice we have, and it might make us more thrilled with what we got instead, adding to our enjoyment of the final version. I would just like to see how this version played out. Anyone else with me?

Couldn’t agree more wish they kept Aladdin’s mom and have Jasmine in a veil when alternately meeting him in the garden.

OMG there was a prostitute. Also the acting is bad because many times the animators and writers put their voices for things like this. I'm glad this didn't make it into the final cut, the pace of the story it's too slow and it is kind of boring.

As much as I loved this on its own, more true to the fairy tale I absolutely love the final version. I can't imagine beauty and the beast without that beginning with the beast's transformation and the song number.

Me too but at the same time in the style of Walt and Roy Disney and the 2017 version(which was little ok except for gay parts not allowed in the 1700s) I would keep it true as much to the original fairy tale version as possible like: 1. Belle and Maurice as originally/formally rich. 2. Gaston’s last name LeGume and still rich while also a hunter and owning a tavern. 3. Maurice plucking a 🌹 from Beast Prince Adam’s garden. 4. The Bimbettes more screen time and nasty with haughty personalities like Belle’s sisters. 5. Margurite as Gaston’s mother 6. Clarice as Mrs. Potts’ daughter(Chip’s sister) 7. Gaston wearing blue for his wedding proposal. 8. Belle keeping the ball gown on instead of changing(like the 2017 movie) while going to ding Maurice. 9. The Bimbettes as part of Gaston’s mobs and scared by the chef. 10. Belle in a wedding dress and Prince Adam in red coat with white pants and black boots.

I won't lie - when the music box got crunched, my heart stopped for a second.

It's so interesting to see this! Seems that this would have been closer to original story but this is also too long.. And imagine if Belle's family would have been like this! This is soo funny to see!

As much as I love the final musical version I still would’ve kept some of the original fairy tale versions in it like Belle and Maurice originally rich until they moved to the village due to ☝️ of Maurice’s inventions gone wrong, Maurice plucking a rose from Beast’s garden and the Bimbettes as nasty blondes with more screen time(hence closet to Belle’s sisters) P.S. much as I love her in blue her concept dress would’ve also been great in the final version and she should’ve kept the yellow ball dress instead of changing as there would be no time especially with Maurice sick in the woods.

Besides, even if anyone would have to had marry Gaston, it really should have been Belle's Aunt.

I like the movie we all know but this has a nice charm to it.

Thank goodness they changed this! I love seeing early storyboards and whatnot, but this was hard to sit through on the Blu-Ray!

True but same time Belle’s concept dress would’ve worked out too alongside Gaston in blue for his wedding proposal and maybe the aunt as his mother and maybe Belle’s sister as Chip’s twin sister.

I bet Inventor Maurice could repair that music box for Merchant Maurice ;).

fun fact: the beast would be forever stuck as a beast when he turned 21 in the movie they mention he'd been stuck that way for ten years...... so he was 11 when he was cursed. no wonder he acts childish

What a shame. I imagine that auntie being a great comic relief

Belle's aunt reminds me of Ursula in "The Little Mermaid", it got me thinking they maybe thought of making her the sort of "new" Ursula. And interesting to see that Belle had a sister in the early stages of the movie. I wonder how all of this would've been like, had it made it to the final version.

In my opinion maybe have Belle’s aunt as Gaston’s mother and her sister as Chip’s sister and Mrs. Potts’ daughter, also as much as I love her blue dress her concept art dress might’ve also worked great in the final version and have The Bimbettes definitely act the same as Belle’s sisters by having them be snobbish, vain and haughty and obsessed with their looks like Gaston(as seen in the 2017 movie)

Don’t get me wrong I love Belle in blue but same time her concept dress from the original beginning would’ve worked out both fine and amazing too.

Jeffrey Katzenberg was responsible for canning this version. He was also the one responsible for gutting "The Black Cauldron" because he felt it wasn't kid-friendly enough. Don't get me wrong, the final version of BatB is one of my favorite Disney films. It's just interesting to look back and only wonder about what could have been...

I don’t about that and it might just be me saying it but I would’ve kept her and switched her from Belle’s aunt to Gaston’s mother.

I like the version that was used in the film much more!

Why would I have been scarred to see Gaston ending up eaten by the wolves when he fell into the moat right after the Wardrobe help Belle defeat him by striking him in the head to save the Beast?

lol - i must b so old, but this is how I remembered the story (with the two wicked sisters and the rose bate-and-switch) before Disney revolutionized it ;-)

this is good but in the end I can see why Jeffery and Peter decided to scrap it and start over but if I could do it over I would've kept Clarece

Me too but like the 2017 live action remake I would still like to keep it as much true to the original fairy tale as possible Walt and Roy Disney Style.

So after a total of 19 minutes we have no mention of Beast. Gaston is detestable from the get go. I don't like that. The Gaston in the final was fun and energetic. I guess this is an okay version for some smaller studio, but in a sense it was too close to the original. It would not have been a Disney product. They did a great job depicting the 18th century, but that is the extent of my enjoyment. I am happy that some brilliant direct scrapped it all.

What a pity, I'd so have loved to see Clarice and Charley go with Belle and Phillipe to take her father's place, then maybe Clarice would have fallen in love with Chip, Charley would have fallen in love with Harmony, and Sultan would have fallen in love with Teacup.

wow geston is worse in this movie lol. I believe this version is truer to the original story of Beauty and the Beast but i still like the original better

@KaoriDivaChan Bah! Thats nothing! In the oryginal novel she was 13-14 (diffrent times you know) To be honest I'm glad that they give Belle a strong personality. This one bearly has any, just a stereotypial sympathethic girl

I highley doubt that this is from before kirk and gary were even on the movie

Honestly I could not imagine beauty and the beast to have been like this. It would certainly not be the same and would lack the emotion and theme that the world fell in love with. Though it was in its preliminary stages I just felt it was dull and boring plus I kind got lost in the plot. It was a good thing that Linda woolvertoon adapted a better screenplay because with out it beauty and the beast would had not even been near to be one of Disney's classics and nevertheless to be one of the most beloved fairytales in cinema. Claiming to be the first animated film to be ever nominated for a best picture oscar not even snow white and the seven dwarfs hold that title.

I dunno. If they polished this version up a bit and made the characters a bit deeper it could have worked.

It quite interesting to see what this movie started off as it almost more gritty and realistic approach in time period and style as well as putting roles people had back then. although interesting to say the lest I'm glad we got what we did. its more whimsical with the old village rather then a renaissance town. it also great story telling as well as having bell be one of the strongest female leads in early Disney movies. (as well I think it best we don't have to meany evil step moms there was plenty of that in media already so the scientist and daughter was a far more enjoyable approach)

Notreally : okay for the lost of the fortune of Belle’s father, but the aunt didn’t exist and Belle had 2 evil sisters in the original fairytale.

Wow! Awesome! Loved Belle's cat, sister, and aunt. They glad they kept Gaston too :) The music of the final film actually suits this nicely! Hate the wigs though -_-

Well both the wig and the blue outfit would’ve suited Gaston great for his wedding proposal in the final film version not to mention the aunt would’ve been better as his mother and I Belle’s concept dress would’ve made it fine in the final version too.

@Beacoro It's the actress, but I believe that's co-director Kirk Wise doing Maurice.

I am thinking that Maurice only became an inventer because he lost his merchandise at sea. Could you imagine that being the case? How would it effect the plot if Clarice was involved?

Oh I can definitely see it as he did lose his fortune in The original story and Clarice would’ve been a great edition and maybe I don’t know probably have switch Marguerite from Belle’s aunt into the Bimbettes’ mother.

This looks so different but kind of reminds me of Grimm's Fairy Tale version of the story but it's unique too and closer to the original story telling. I just love looking up this stuff. Does anyone know why they didn't add this to the movie ?

LittleGoof 1 they decided bell should be a stronger female lead in the one portrayed here. It also might of been a bit too jarring to have the beast suddenly turned to a prince with no warning at all.

with better vocal acting, but it doesn't need to be huge stars.
