“There is nothing more beneficial to the heart than reciting the Qur’an with contemplation and reflection. The Qur’an bequeaths love, aspiration, fear, hope, repentance, reliance, pleasure, contentment, authority, gratitude, patience, and the all other [necessary] conditions that are life [i.e.vital] to the heart and perfection of it. Likewise, it repels all reprehensible characteristics and actions which cause corruption and destroy the heart.” (Imam ibn al-Qayyim)
