I have this exact unit and the loading tray gets stuck on the way out. I have to depress the button twice and that usually works. I wish you were close by as I would bring the unit to you for servicing. Great little video, much appreciated!

my Marantz cd 6004 has been working so well for 6 years now, and i am happy with it.

I really appreciate this video. I just had to have my unit repaired after 15 years and it's nice to see what the parts are that they just serviced. (Belt, laser, power supply). I hope the shop I took mine too did as thorough a service as you did (they said they would).

Greetings again from the US. I have packed my player to be shipped to an authorized repair center. My player was built on June 2005. In case it needs a new laser assembly, do you know if they are still available? I have found a few on EBay but they may cheap knock offs. Who made the original lasers for the SA 11? Thanks so much.

Hi Federico, last time I checked lasers were available, though the situation changes all the time. I think I still have a couple in stock, they are Toshiba DVD lasers if I recall correctly.

Thank you very much for sharing the video. I am using the same player and just noted that the display is not working and it failed to read disk. Any idea on the fix and where I can get the parts (pick-up system and display unit)?

Hi Alan, Marantz will suggest you take her to an authorised repairer and that would be my best advice here too. Having worked on these, I can tell you that laser/mech replacement is a can of worms with this series of players. You need the service manual and there are factory revisions that have to be made at an SMD level when replacing lasers. You also need genuine factory parts, rather than cheap knock-off lasers.

you ever get the chance to work on an Accuphase CD or SACD player? If so, I'd love to get your thoughts on the build quality .. they cost crazy money.

I have and they are superbly built, like all Accuphase gear. Sound quality varies but even their older digital stuff sounds great.

Any tips to removing the loader tray gears to allow replacement of the loader belt? I have a replacement belt but I dont want to risk breaking the two plastic gears.

Only to be careful, don't force anything and if in doubt, take her somewhere trusted, but actually this one is fairly straightforward.

Do you know where I can get the laser for SA-11S1? Mine is getting weak and not able to read any CD.

I get them from a commercial supplier but you may be able to find them online.

Greetings from the US. Do you have a video on how to remove the gears in order to replace the belt? My Sa11 S1 is exhibiting the same issues with the tray not opening unless I try a few times. Also the player will not read some SACD. Do you attribute that to a worn out laser mechanism or just some cleaning. Thanks and I wish I would live closer.

Hi, sorry, I don't. It sounds like your player needs expert attention, I suggest taking it to someone who can deliver that. The disc reading errors might be laser related, I would need to test the machine though during service to know more. There must be a repairer in your city, try calling the best hi-fi store to see who they use, this is often helpful.

@@LiquidAudio Thanks so much and that's what I thought. There is a service center here in town and I may take it there. Apparently the laser assembly is not super expensive and the latest Marantz version of this player retails for almost $7,000 US so it is totally worth to spend some money and get it repaired. @@MAKESQ I sent the unit about 5 weeks ago to Just Audio repair center in Baltimore MD and they are a certified Marantz repair Center here in the US. Hopefully they can fix it and I will update everyone on the, I hope, successful repair.

@@federicopivetta7387 Thanks for that information, much appreciated! I would consider getting a newer unit but my understanding is that the 2021 CD playback technology is not an improvement over what we have. I think my unit dates back to 2008 or so.

Hi I have a Marantz SA-15S1 now 14 years old owned from new 2007. Never had a repair in it life. However for some reason their seems to be what I can describe as static noise coming from both left & right analogue outputs. It not loud but it their. Seems to come in the midrange section. The player it self absolutely works flawlessly. I have manually done a basic service my self. Laser has had a good clean using Servisol IPA 170.. So the laser does track pretty well seeks and plays pretty fast. SACD'S also play perfectly well. Iv also lubricated the transport using silicon greese. The laser rails iv used machine oil. It's pretty much as quite as the one you've serviced here now . I just don't know what's causing the low static noise. Its not the analogue interconnects as iv swapped them over. Any ideas what's likely to cause this strange issue please. 😕🤔. Marc from London UK.

Hi Marc, I'd need her here for further testing and diagnosis but players in this series have laser issues and there are various revisions and changes that were made. I suggest you take her to an expert for further work.

@@LiquidAudio Hi thanks for the reply. It's very much appreciated. Okay so this type of fault you would say "generally" would not be attributed to a laser fault on majority of players. Would you mind stating what the ussal faults are that you have had in your experience buddy. Or is this type of fault due to the DAC becoming faulty with age. Its got me. The player does actually work perfectly. It does track & seek fairly speedy. It still plays CDs & SACDs without any issues. The actual sound quality is still very high. Bass is very deep and clean. The mids and highs are still very open clear and focused warm and smooth. It seems to emulate in the mid section. Their are times when you would not even notice theirs a fault. It's like a very mild rustling sound like a scratched record being played. It's definitely the mid section. The player as a whole still preforms as a reference player what you would expect at this level even 14 years on. Regards Marc London, UK 🇬🇧

@@marcdavis8842 Hi Marc, it's a strange one, various faults can result in poor sound quality, noise or distortion as you describe it. Failing transistors for example often make the sort of noise you describe. Speculation is not really helpful, testing and diagnosis is really the best way to proceed.

@@LiquidAudio Hiya buddy. No I understand. I do appreciate your replys and input. Yes it is rather. Odd. Iv never had a situation like this before. The irony is I can still happily listen to music on the unit for sevral hours. Thankfully it's not that bad a fault I simply can't use the unit. It's nether gotten worse or better in the past year. I can't understand if it's my speakers as both speakers I replaced drive units. I can't believe it could be Speaker cable or interconnects that almost impossible I would have thought. Lastly if a laser pickup does become faulty or a laser pickup becomes week due to age are the ussal symptoms generally not tracking.. Skipping and failing to read disks. Are their any other symptoms That would be worth me looking out for the signs are.

@@marcdavis8842 All good, happy to help. There are lots of variables and possible causes here even beyond the player, again highlighting my point that testing and diagnosis are needed. Weak lasers generally produce slow table of contents (TOC) read times and other read faults like skipping and fussiness with scratched or test discs. I'm fixing an SA-7S1 as we speak, Marantz doesn't produce lasers for them anymore, we can now only get Chinese clones which is a bummer.

Don't worry Steve about the 'change all the caps' people, it's an American thing...

Dear Mike, the tray drive mechanism on my Marantz SA-11S1 CD Player is broken. I live in USA; couldn't find any Marantz repair shop here. I love my player and will appreciate your suggestion if repairing of that unit is feasible.

Hi Mark, there will be many official Marantz repairers in the USA. A quick search of the Marantz USA website leads to this page with them listed: www.marantz.com/en-us/support/serviceinformation. Hopefully one of them can fix it for you. These can be a pain to repair, the tray should be fixable.

@@markgoretsky766 Hi Mark, that's a shame. Marantz really goofed with this series of player and they are a real pain for owners and technicians alike. Keep looking, there will be someone who can look at it for you.

Plus, those particular electrolytic are mostly Silmic, which are fantastic. Why mess with something of that quality level, unless you really feel they have dried out, or they are bulging/defective.

I've believe it's a HOP-1200R...

Why do people think changing the caps is going to improve anything? That’s like replacing the caps in a Iphone. Won’t make one difference to what you will hear.

I have to say those are silmic cap at best you would replace them with new silmic caps they are not cheap . Unless it older than 8 years old there is no reason to change them out given they test good.

Don’t know who started all this rubbish on capacitors. The same here I only replace them if they are old and tired or if there is a problem. I seen capacitors at 35years old and working fine and low esr and still at spec, do you replace them ? No because no reason too. I been repairing electronics for years and you see all sorts of stuff, but best is old 80s and 90s hifi, it was made so well. Todays stuff is junk.

Forums, armchair experts, and some well-meaning folks who don't have the experience and technical expertise to know better, unfortunately. The internet has been both a blessing and a curse in this regard!

Poor quality capacitors, plastic mechanics, poor sound. It’s a shame that the 40-year-old Marantz model CD 63, (actually a Philips CD 100) sounds much better after a recap. The Marantz design is High End, the sound is poor Hifi. I write from experience!
