I wish our styles now were as feminine as they were then. I would love to look that lovely. ❤

100% agree when women were true traditional women.
This era had class, style and its architecture was unrivalled. Wish i could have lived through it.
Dresses, skirts...elegance and grace.

They definitely had a very refined sense of elegance. Would be interesting to go back in time and see it in action.
I wonder if anyone looks at these videos and would be surprised to find out it is their great grandmother or some other relative. How amazing that would be.

Richard Head Yeah, every single person in this film was “rich.” Most people didn’t go out into public unless properly dressed, unlike people today. If that meant wearing the same damn suit every day then so be it.

i love this era. Everyone looked healthy and there fashion was absolutely beautiful. People actually talked instead of texting. Everyone was very proper and you wouldn’t see anyone with crazy hair or crazy fashion. It was definitely one of the best decades.
I wish I live in those early years, I love the horse cars and the life of no cell phone and iPod and internet!
At 8:23, I like when all people were smiling to camera. This very appreciable accustom slowly vanished throughout the whole century.
I wish life was still like this

@@meganhanlon9839 and why is that? Women back then weren't captive, it wasn't middle age.. You could go out and have fun, get education, job, travel and so on. Times were more innocent, fashion was more beautiful and feminine. Yes i'd go back as a woman.. Perhaps you think of traditional family values as bad?

So what if all of these people are dead. None of us were here then. We’re all just passing through and this world belongs to us while we’re here, after which time it belongs to the next crew.

Disgraceful comment Sharon. The world does NOT 'belong' to us now, and these people then. Typical arrogant attitude you never would have heard a generation ago.
@Awakeningspirit20
3 жыл бұрын
@@stevefoley4073 No, that's precisely the sort of attitude of generations ago, and ESPECIALLY the one shown in the footage. They believed the world belonged to man, specifically the WHITE man in those days. It's not a 'disgraceful' comment at all, way to make a big deal out of something that's not even there. We don't "own" the planet, we didn't create it, but that doesn't mean it's not ours. That doesn't mean we abuse it, it means we're free to navigate it and call it home. But in the 1900s they were far more arrogant. "The unsinkable ship," ever heard that ironic label? Same era. People assumed then that they were on the cusp of mastering Newtonian physics and science to harness the world and control the forces of nature. That's why they believed they could build unsinkable ships and other invincible contraptions.

@@Awakeningspirit20 We'll have to agree to differ. There's no way on earth I will agree with someone saying "this world belongs to us while we’re here, after which time it belongs to the next crew." It's a disgraceful, arrogant attitude, typical of THIS generation. We'll agree to differ.
Unbelievable to think that all these people have vanished from existence...
Thanx and kudos to the dedicated people who preserve these films! Everyone wore hats cuz it was either too hot in the summer (and they needed to put some shade on their heads) or too cold in the winters, or too often raining in the spring-autumn, so hats were the thing around to world to solve those problems. And so hat designs and fashions because an art from, and a status symbol if they war elaborate enough, and made of the finest materials. It wasn't until the rebellion of a new post-WWI generation in the 19-teens and 1920s that such fashions from the Victorian era was generally tossed out, but some hats, especially fedoras for men, who still spent a lot of time outdoors working or looking for work, continued to be the worn, until the boomer generation threw the use of fedoras out the window also. Occasionally, you can still see someone wearing a fedora to be "retro", but not very often with global warming an issue of our current (as I write this) times.
love these old films
Lots of pretty girls back in the turn of the century
idk if it’s just me but i always wonder the conversations that were going on during these times or these videos
I just love how people used to dress.
I guess wearing a Thong in those days, would have gotten you at least a couple of years behind bars.

How they would to dress in those days, woman wearing long dresses and fancy hats 👒, I like that.
This video is amazing honestly in my opinion their fashion choice is awesome they all look professional
very enjoyable. it was good to see working folk alongside the rich parading their fashions. some of the footage is as late as the 1920s, when women's dresses were shorter
Some people like the 1700s, others like the 1860s, but I'll always love the 1900s and the Belle Epoque.

Oh to enjoy an afternoon Sunday stroll with a pretty lady in carefree, leisurely, conversation…..no yoga pants, no purple, pink hair, bull nose rings, tattoos. Just Elegance, simplicity, modesty, femininity……..I can dream…dreaming of a bygone era. Then I wake up in 2021 and look around….🤦♂️
Oh, that world was a much more beautiful place back then
Reminds me of the movie Ragtime.
Much of this footage is from 1910 to 1920.

Such thick clothing. They must of been sweating 😰 Everyone used to smoke in those days. I'm just glad it was documented.
OMG I UV THEES YEARSSSS

Those swimsuits! EGAD!!! I wonder how many birds died to provide all those feathers for those hats?
3:10 she looks beautiful with her long hair. I prefer her that way, kind of Rapunzel looking. 😉
Lol the guy at 843 trying to get in the video
@1:25 the first lady you can imagine her on the beach today vs the rest of the swimsuit models! I would expect the 'swimsuit' edition to all be young but it appear the majority in this line up are older.

It would be safe to assume that these people had high moral standards.
Oh my
Between all that hair and those enormous hats, the ladies back then must have had very strong necks!
In 1900 I was 6 years old u can see me in the park
The music sounds like a lullabye for dead people or old people live today seen in this film.
every one dressed with class
the first footage is Piazza San Marco in Venice
No degeneracy. Back when America was great.
Finding a woman in long dress is now a needle in a haystack...
Unfortunately during WWI a lot of these young men died. Part of the Lost Generation in Europe primarily.
LoL I still wear a Straw Boater, and still haven't seen another in this city. Time to bring them back.
3:22 beautiful
I enjoyed this, but let's not forget that this represented primarily the minority of most any population- the wealthiest individuals of their society.
i miss those days where people dress properly.. and each ethnicity has their distinct design of dressing.. people back then knew fashion better.. today we all over the world are wearing exactly same thing and plain boring besides women walk naked..
@SmittenKitten96

I mean....they're all wearing basically the same type of dress too that was what was "trendy" back then lol was there more effort and elegance? Most definitely.
notice they did not show all the poor people of that era 1900...just showed middle class and the rich in fancy get up of clothing only showed working class working their sox off...
Didn't the ladies long skirt get dirty with all that horse droppings?
@caspence56

Definitely. When the skirts or dresses were taken off, all they got were a thorough brushing at the hem to remove any debris and then simply hung up to be worn again.
Some of this needs heavy restoration
wow, everybody is wearing a Hat. How cool.
play at x.75
Women back then must have had strong necks cause those hats looked heavy and LMFAO at the massive photo bomb!!
I watch these type of videos for educational purposes and to learn how life was back then. Those bathing suits were horrific. Heavy clothes were the norm of fashion back then. They must have sweated a lot in the summer and had no AC either.
this place is so alike truman show
