    Richard Head Yeah, every single person in this film was “rich.” Most people didn’t go out into public unless properly dressed, unlike people today. If that meant wearing the same damn suit every day then so be it.

  • @Awakeningspirit20

    @Awakeningspirit20

    @@stevefoley4073 No, that's precisely the sort of attitude of generations ago, and ESPECIALLY the one shown in the footage. They believed the world belonged to man, specifically the WHITE man in those days. It's not a 'disgraceful' comment at all, way to make a big deal out of something that's not even there. We don't "own" the planet, we didn't create it, but that doesn't mean it's not ours. That doesn't mean we abuse it, it means we're free to navigate it and call it home. But in the 1900s they were far more arrogant. "The unsinkable ship," ever heard that ironic label? Same era. People assumed then that they were on the cusp of mastering Newtonian physics and science to harness the world and control the forces of nature. That's why they believed they could build unsinkable ships and other invincible contraptions.

    Thanx and kudos to the dedicated people who preserve these films! Everyone wore hats cuz it was either too hot in the summer (and they needed to put some shade on their heads) or too cold in the winters, or too often raining in the spring-autumn, so hats were the thing around to world to solve those problems. And so hat designs and fashions because an art from, and a status symbol if they war elaborate enough, and made of the finest materials. It wasn't until the rebellion of a new post-WWI generation in the 19-teens and 1920s that such fashions from the Victorian era was generally tossed out, but some hats, especially fedoras for men, who still spent a lot of time outdoors working or looking for work, continued to be the worn, until the boomer generation threw the use of fedoras out the window also. Occasionally, you can still see someone wearing a fedora to be "retro", but not very often with global warming an issue of our current (as I write this) times.
