Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

1st year of the iconic Norton Commando. This original version had 745 cc and what would later be know as the fastback tail. One beautiful motorcycle. Wahoo!

I was at an all British motorcycle swap meet and two guys were talking about some sort of Norton that was designed to race in the Paris to Dakar Rally. I was taking a sip of my coffee when I heard this and I laughed so hard I choked. A Norton would not even make it to the outskirts of Paris let alone go wide open against the competition all the way down to Africa. They are fun to work on beautifully styled and fun to ride when they are running. Let's put it this way.... owning a Norton is like being married to a beautiful woman that is sick all the time.❤

I had a 68 commando, and with the exception of a few things coming loose here and there, it was quite reliable, and after ten years, even though I didn't use it for the last two, it still started up with old gas as if it hadn't been sitting for more than a day.

An instructor l had in the Navy we were on break there was a Norton parked outside. He said he had one one and traded it for a BSA. Said it was the biggest mistake he ever made.

I think what I like most about these old bikes is how everything is mechanical and easy to understand. Modern electronics are great in their own way, but we’ve really lost something.

Everything is so mechanical on these bikes. This pushes that, that pulls this kind of stuff. We can see it in the mind and touch it with oily, greasy fingers. Also, really love the look of the cases, castings, welds, bits & pieces etc... Almost feel the engineers & techs working together. I wonder if that ever happens with modern bikes. Wahoo!

Thanks to the Peashooter mufflers this Fastback looks better than most. The 73-74 Roadsters were the prettiest, at least IMO.

Beautiful indeed - no wonder they sold so well . . . the intention was for this to be a Stop-Gap bike while Norton developed a new engine - sadly that new engine never came 😢 . . . .

@@forgottenmotorcycles interestingly there were some prototype unit construction motors made, this before the AMC takeover . . . Some enterprising enthusiasts have finished off the undeveloped motors and built full machines as they may have appeared !! . . if you search for Norton "Unified Twin" you will find them and the fascinating story - two full bikes now exist, one mounted in a Featherbed frame . . . But yes, another one of those frustrating "Might have Beens" from motorcycling history . . . Thanks for the video - that Commando is just 😍 stunning . . .

just another motorized bicycle, even if faster than most. the bmw 'brick engine' showed what starting with a clear mind could do. brits never had enough money to escape from evolutionary design.
