    Major Harvey, that's a white-winged dove. They are everywhere now; but when I was a kid they were very rare in Texas except deep in the Rio Grande Valley. I still remember the first one I ever saw ... in a city park in San Antonio in about 1976. (1.3 million of these doves were estimated to be present year-round in San Antonio in 2001). In the 1960s they began their northward march. Now they cover nearly all of Texas (except extreme East border) and some can be found as far north as Nebraska. I live in Kerrville, Texas 60 miles northwest of San Antonio. I bet if I stuck my head out my window right now, I would hear several within a minute or two. They are now a pest demolishing bird feeders and grain fields. Fortunately they taste good, and the farmers can balance their losses by leasing their land for dove hunting.

    Sorry I left the name off of that one. It is a meadowlark. I probably spent an hour or so trying to decide if it is the Eastern or Western Meadowlark. I am in Texas where the ranges overlap, and apparently the only good way to tell them apart is by their song. Since I am very hearing impaired, I did not hear this on when I recorded it. Apologies for being 3 years late on my reply. I hope you will watch my latest posting of 77 Texas Gulf Coast Birds with authentic sounds at kzread.info/dash/bejne/aZuu0qacoKW0j5c.html. Rob

    Whats the bird call in the background at 1:17

  • @robertecarpenter

    @robertecarpenter

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good morning Manny. At about 1:17 the soundtrack goes from Black-throat hummingbird to a Cardinal. Is that what you meant by "background?" very few of my videos are actual synch of the bird in the video and the sound. I hate that, but the reason is most of my bird videos are made where there is so much background noise that the audio track is unusable (people talking, airplanes, auto traffic or wind noise etc.). So i resort to good audio tracks i have been able to make where there is no audio interference. All sound are my actual recordings. The bird at 1:17 is the male ruby-throated hummingbird. I hope that is helpful. Har, har, har. I actually sat at a birdwatcher's club about 15 years ago and a man on the back row watched the old CRT video with his binoculars. After the show, the presenter asked his wife if he wore them to bed. "No." she replied, "But they're the first thing he puts on every morning!"
