Beautiful 400-Year-Old Dutch Wooden Chest | Antiques Roadshow

All valuations were correct at the time of broadcast. This distinguished wooden chest dates back to around 1620, and features an arced lid that would have been removed to knead dough in. This was bought from a family member and after valuation, it appears they got a good family discount! Hugh Scully and the experts from Antiques Roadshow take a look at some fantastic antiques and the history and stories surrounding them. This clip was filmed in Torquay in 1999.

Nah I’m guessing early to mid 90’s.
That is indeed a friesian chest where the early style of sledgefeet and peg and mortise construction continued up untill the mid 19th c. Also the germanic influenced ironwork was made up untill that period and this chest us more likely circa 1750-1775. Ofcourse he got it wrong as he is comparing it to english early oak from the 1600's. Most examples would have polychrome decoration. Value is about 3000 but not 30 years ago. Now. Also friesland is not in northern denmark. It is a northern dutch province bordering on southern denmark. He got that wrong too
