If people ever doubt the closeness of John and Paul, show them this video. At 2:14 John peers at Paul. He knows he isn't well, yet Paul makes a little face to let John know he will keep up. Such a sweet moment. This is one of the few times we see the soft, kind John, because sometimes he hid that side of him... They were so close.

Seeing Paul not being bubbly and happy makes me drain inside. He’s like leaning against Ringo a bit which makes me *so* concerned. And seeing John asking if he’s alright is absolute TRUE friendship.

John keeps looking at Paul to check if hes alright, so sweet. The two of them were really really close. I feel sorry for Paul, you can see he doesn't want to be there, the way he keeps looking down or around

At 2:07, Paul turns away and says "Ooh" really quietly, but I think he had to choke back from becoming sick right then. When John whispers at 2:11 "You Alright?" Paul kind of pretends it's not a big deal but almost mouths "No" to John. They had to cancel a concert because Paul collapsed from sickness soon after this interview.

He liked to act tough and as if he didn't need anyone but this interview shows how much john cared for Paul. Paul was very ill here and john wouldn't stop staring at him hoping to make Paul feel even the slightest bit better. Every time john made a joke he kept peering over hoping Paul would crack a smile. He hated to see Paul so miserable I think it shook him to his core.

Best line in the entire interview: George: The audience was much better than expected.John: Much taller

You know, I watched this about HUNDREDS of times and I find it very odd that John just randomly comments Ringo on his scarf. I wonder if its just an excuse to look at Paul some more. :( I think Paul knows that John is worried because he just keeps looking away and doesn't want to keep worrying him John noticed, so he looks around, and sees Ringo's scarf so he just keeps secretly looking at Paul so he doesn't make him uncomfortable worrying about him. The poor gorgeous baby. :( John was such a sweetheart despite being known as the "bold" Beatle he is such a wonderful friend :3

rebecca st. martin actually when they get the chance to in interviews they'll talk about what they've been doing a bit and then talk about something random to have a bit of banter. It's a bit more obvious, the switch, in this interview, probably because the band didn't want to appear 'off'. At this point they were still unsure of whether Paul was well enough to perform or not so they had to appear normal so that if the concert went ahead, people wouldn't suspect anything. It just so happened that the concert was cancelled because presumably a doctor or medical professional had not cleared Paul to go on stage. That's why John comments on the scarf. He would have picked the scarf because he'd already been focusing on Ringo, leaving it to appear as normal banter.

John had another side to him and he could be a real jerk, but I think deep down inside he was a sweet heart. He was brash in order to hide his pain going back to his childhood.

I love the way John repeatedly looks at Paul trying to find out what is wrong. You can say that he cared very much about him.

The tender concern John shows Paul here is the sweetest thing ever. Paul has said somewhere that in private John was actually the "softest, sweetest guy". But in public his image was the tough one. Shows how in tune John was with Paul, George and Ringo barely notice somethings wrong with Paul, tho Ringo does look at him a couple of times. Even the interviewer doesnt notice. But how cute is "sick Paul" tho?

Close friends can communicate loads of information with just their eyes and eyebrows, evident from this clip. Two of the best singers and songwriters past, present and future.

not only John and Paul, all 4 of them are really close..just to public 2 of them are considered more important..but between them all are best of friends..

I think it's Ringo who says "Paul", it sounds like him. John's concern is lovely.

It is Ringo that says "Paul" and it almost looks like Paul whispered something to Ringo and then gave John a funny look. I almost picture him whispering, "I think I'm going to hurl!" to Ringo. Poor thing! You actually hear him moan and have a sick look right when Ringo is joking about his scarf.

@@concorde2569 Actually Paul was sick, he had stomach flu. There were reports in the press that he passed out backstage which the the bands pr machine denied, but he was ill enough that the show that night was called off. Something The Beatles almost never did.

Also, this interview is from 1963, so the "Real Paul" was still alive. Looks like you can't even keep up with the conspiracy 😂 Unlike you, I looked at both sides of the story and the conclusion I came down to is that Paul is alive. The "facts" to prove he was dead were either coincidences or waaay too far of a reach to be legitimate. It must have been very difficult for Paul to tolerate such idiotic questions from a reporter who knew little about them especially if he wasn't feeling well. John was very attuned to his best mate, Paul...very sweet!
