Beating EVERY N64 Game - Carmageddon 64 (86/394)
Ойындар
Carmageddon was a very graphic driving game popularized on the PC. It became big enough for the devs to want it ported to the N64. Let's see how well they did.

Fun fact, in the German version of carmageddon 64 it was still considered too violent to run over zombie pedestrians so they replaced the zombies with dinosaurs

Funny because the zombies were already a way to censor the game on the N64 (the original had humans). So this was a censor on top of another censor.
The thing about the PC Carmageddon was the absolute insane violence. Carmageddon 2 even ramped it up a lot. There were animals to hit as well as people, the gore was over the top and ridiculous. And races had a ton more drivers. The Dump Truck Boss was SO Gigantic that if you unlocked and tried to use him you literally couldn't even see where you were going, and if your truck was at the front of the line of racers, just them running into your back would wipe like 50-60% of them at the start of the race. I would say this game was soooooo much more sandboxy on PC

The PC version (Called Carmageddon 2) had a very un-finished feel to it, but it was also very original. It was, to a large extent, an exploration and sandbox game, except it was also a destruction derby at the same time (for most stages of the game). The levels were huge, and had a wider variety of stuff in them than the N64 version. The vehicle destruction physics were extremely complex and advanced for the day, and it was quite a lot of fun to see what different ways you could bend and/or break other cars (as well as your own). The N64 port came out much later on than the original PC version, but still had an unfinished feel to it, though I think some of the driving physics seem to have actually been improved, at least in certain respects.

My favourite memory is editing some game files so that you had 30 opponents instead of 5. It was absolute madness, and really easy to do. Like litterally open a file in notepad and edit a line.
The one ive been waiting for. I loved the first Carmageddon, but my pc couldnt run Carma 2. So i waited and waited for this port. It was delayed so many times but one day i finally saw it in the rental store and immediately grabbed it. It wasn't very good, but i told myself it was. After the 2 day rental, i returned it and bought a new copy from Toys R Us. It was an expensive game too, $100, when usually games were closer to $70 with tax. Took it home, loaded up my memory card save. And found out i was on the last level, i beat the game 10 minutes later. I was pretty upset i wasted all that money. Probably the 2nd worst game purchase, after Action 52. Yes, my brother and i fell for Action 52 on the home shopping channel.

Carmageddon 2 on PC used Iron Maiden soundtracks, it introduced me to the band when I was a kid.
I may be mistaken but in the other versions of this game (the PC one for example) the zombies were just normal people and it was way more violent. I remember it being sort of famous in the playground when I was like 8 or 9. It was one of those things, you know, where some concerned parent learned about it's existence so they wrote some alarming news story about how violent it was and how videogames were rotting our brains, so it became this "forbidden" and infamous game you weren't allowed to play but some classmate with an older brother had and you all went to his place to try it out. Good times.

Props to this guy for not dying of boredom as some of these N64 games are abysmal.
Finding those mines reminded me of Hot Wheels Turbo Racing(N64)... the fun of that game was finding hidden cars location in secrets within the lap's shortcuts. There was a car that you had to jump onto one platform then onto another by bouncing off the first... it was one of the hardest challenges I did in gaming.
Here in Brazil, in 1997, this game was the theme of a very popular TV show. Was a alert for parentes about the violence, but just made this game very popular for the teenagers.
I had no idea there was a 64 version of this game. This almost feels like a re-skin of Rush 64. The PC version was way bloodier and cartoonishly violent if I recall correctly.
@ActuallySanFrancisco

na, rush on the n64 looked WAY WAY WAAAAAAAAY better graphically than this did. it's not even close. i think it was just a really shoddy port of whatever engine the PC version ran on. it didn't review well back in the day.

This is not a port. Its a new game based on Carmaggedon. And this has nothing to do with SFRush lmao. How dumb are you? And also NO. SFRush doesnt have much better graphics than this. Both have pretty crappy graphics in their own right. SFRush is a much better game in terms of gameplay that is true.
omg how was I sleeping so hard on this game when I was a kid, this looks AWESOME. I love the full screen of lore explaining a game about running over zombies with a hot wheels car. Especially love the detail on the tachometer but there's no mention of your speed :P lol that's awesome.
That painting is called "going up the sideways stairs" by mc Escher. His first album was okay but the others were just more of the same trap.

Hey man, just found your channel today and this series and I'm really enjoying it. Basically just had this playlist going pretty much constantly over the past several hours. Thanks a lot from a (slightly older) N64-kid. Good luck going forwards as well, wish you and your endeavors all the success. I cannot promise I'll watch EVERY VIDEO in this series because, well, I'm guessing it would be kinda boring as shit for a viewer to watch you play EVERY game in a series, such as all the NBA Jam (or whatever games they were) on all the N64 years 97-2002, but I have been enjoying your commentary on all the videos I have watched of yours today and can promise I will watch a lot of this series. I enjoy it a lot, and it seems like a lot of viewers are too. Great idea, glad you're doing it, and wish you all the best.

I am excited to see Thab playing pachinko.
Thank You for another episode. I have a hunch that you won't be playing Palor for too long unless there are unlockables as it'll probably be more of a score-attack game.
Tidus was not at fault for Superman 64; the DC team for that project was replaced halfway through and tried to kill the game during production so it could be licensed to EA instead.
I played the PC version a ton as a kid. I think I played this rented version for a few minutes and hated it. The sequel and remake also great. The remake, Carmageddon: Max Damage, is 75% off on Steam until August 19th. It is well worth playing.
Games like Mahjong and Pachinko are the main reason I could never bring myself to attempt this challenge. Just seems like it'd be a chore to play those games. Could you imagine being a kid at Christmas, opening up a brand new N64 to find that the only game your parents bought with it for you was Pachinko? I'd rather just get socks and sweat pants for Christmas.
A nodding donkey is what oil drillers call the machine that pulls crude oil out of the ground it looks like a donkey head going up and down and up and down basically nodding. Hence nodding donkey
Oh that’s where cunning stunts comes from lmao
Remember, there's 3x power ups: good ones (like the electro bastard ray), bad ones (like bouncy bouncy), and chance ones (could be good or bad). The PC version is so much better. Bought legit on gog, came bundled with dosbox preconfigured.
What a struggle. I would have taken that back and never rented it again.
The N64 port is actually of Carmageddon II on PC, not the original Carmageddon. The original was beloved by many, but Carma 2 is where the devs really polished the idea and had an incredible soundtrack featuring Iron Maiden. I spent countless hours playing Carma 2 on the PC and just finding all the upgrades, Pinball Mode bonuses, and splitting opponents in half! Carmageddon: TDR 2000 came out in 2000 and featured a new soundtrack with Utah Saints and had a completely overhauled physics engine. At the time I loved the cartoonish physics of Carma 2 and the vast courses, so I wasn't a big fan of TDR's new "heavier" physics and shorter timers limiting how much I could explore - but the graphics were fantastic. And TDR grew on me to where I love it just as much as the others. And now we have Carmageddon: Max Damage that was in development hell for a bit (14 years!) but came out to be a fantastic marriage of the cartoon-like world of Carma 2 and everything I liked about TDR 2000, plus some neat call-backs to the original. Max Damage is definitely worth checking out and playing. Carmageddon (1997) - I recommend ONLY if you're a fan of the style and are willing to put up with being locked at 640x480 graphics. Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now (1998) - Highly recommended! Prepare to lose yourself in it for many many hours. Carmageddon: TDR 2000 (2000) - A more "mature" title in the series, with lots to do and creative vehicles. Carmageddon: Max Damage (2016) - Finally, a modern version that does everything right about all of the games in the series. All of these are on sale in Steam as of writing this. You can pick up all four titles for like $10.
Game has the same menu screen as Road Rash 64
Thanks
On PC the original had 99 levels, most just new paths on previous levels. It was fun to explore, and the best strategy was almost always car combat. It would take your hours and hours to complete any track by killing all the peds.
Oh Man Red Friday! It’s comin

Damn! So close to Paper Mario being the next game!
Nice Beaver hahaha
This was one of those games that really upset parents back in the day, after the whole Night Trap/Mortal Kombat stuff. Had tons of blood, and could run over people just for kicks. While it's heavily toned down on N64, it was very popular on PC where it wasn't nearly as censored. Next big outrage probably would be GTA3 then San Andreas (hot coffee stuff) - been pretty silent since, except on some anime games from Japan.
I actually like the graphics, unlimited draw distance is something i value above detail or even framerate. The Ps1 version has terrrible pop up and texture warping and wobbly polygons. I like this better, graphics wise

I'm trying to think about what N64 games were my favorites that you haven't gotten to yet.. The other 3 Turok games were lots of fun (Rage Wars was more for the co-op/multiplayer, though), Star Fox 64, Goldeneye, Road Rash 64, Cruis'n USA, Gauntlet Legends, Jet Force Gemini... I'm sure there are more.. Quake II was way better on PC, but I still had some fun with the port

Silly zombies. How would they control air traffic without any technical equipment in the tower? smh
Seeing people not having any clue about what game Carmageddon is makes me feel very old... The game was synonym of controversy back then so everybody and their mothers knew about it LOL
The idea of destroying all your opponents as a win condition is great but it shouldn't be so easy. I think maybe a good way to do it would be that they take more hits to blow up than you can deliver just by ramming into them. You would need to use track elements like walls, hazards and cliffs to take them out. That would be a fun racing game. Then there could be some reward for a pacifist run in which you only win by coming in first place.
Carmageddon 2 on PC is the best racing game ever.
