I'm like anybody with internet and computer. I browse youtube, I watch, I learn. However, I'm kinda one of those douche bags that doesnt actually type a comment out. This time, instead of gathering and leaving, I will break my norm. Thank you, BennyDaBeast. This shit made it easy af and I'm already half way through my first song. Yeah, the guy who made this software clearly takes a very... unserious attitude in his work. He hides instructions to push Alt+F4, insults you if at any time you try and make a 3-Wide-Wall, and overall just is constantly a presence

@@leightonpetty4817 i guess thats what makes the editor fun to use. The built-in beat saber editor is very simple and its almost as boring to use as osu's editor.

Good mapping is hard. Your tutorial videos make it bearable, your maps make it look easy/fun. After trying it for myself I have even more respect for you and some of the incredible mappers offering great dance-able maps.

OMG your videos have helped me so much in the past day that I've started making my own songs for BeatSaber! I am already obsessed and can't wait to do more songs!

I had a lot of fun making my own song and it’s so cool that this software is so so easy to use - anyone having issues as of today, jan 1 2020, with uploading the song to beat saver, you have to upload your final zip file into skystudioapps.com/mapping-tools/#schema-fixer to change the schema. This will update it and make it uploadable to beat saver.

drag the note you want to move with alt with the left button of the mouse

beat saver says no info.dat folder found when i clearly have a info.dat folder!

Great tutorial! :-) Can I put a red/blue note with a single keyboard push? I only want to put the notes to a default spot, I would arrange and turn them later... It would make the map creation so much easier! :-)

There is a BSMG wiki... if you look at basic controls.. there is a hotkey shortcuts google docs.. (life saver). However to answer your question... to change color of block, you use middle mouse. Not sure about "A"

Ok I figured it out go to the settings on the main menu and turn off "cat" and "bongo cat"

Best tutorial, thanks. When you edit a part you always scroll back with the wheel for checking? Can't we set space to play/stop instead of play/pause? When i set bookmark, and click on it, i cannot play the song with space, i have to click on the map first. Is this a bug? What you say at 6:16? Right click + ?

Hey Benny, you said that playtesting the map is super important, I was just wondering what the most convenient way to playtest was in terms of file management? @@cringeworthybears5500 so it turned out that it was actually getting in the game just fine, it had named itself, 'unknown' and all I had to do was put in the name of the song. If you need more advice, feel free to @ me on the modding discord and I can take a look at your file.

In the current version of the software (Mediocre Map Assistant 2) you can change the beat divisions so it's visually easier to map.

This is a really helpful tutorial! I dont even have a vr headset so i cant test out the map im trying to make but oh well!

Whenever I try to upload it, it says "Invalid Beatmap Error in ExpertPlusStandard.dat Root should NOT have additional property: _time." Can anyone help me figure out what's going on with that?

9:28 how do you move half bar lengths? Whenever i click stop it goes to a bar number.

Also, I'm trying to make a track with a song that has a crazy amount of drumbeats. If I count every drumbeat, it has a bpm of about 460, if I count only the loud major drumbeats it's about 230 or less. It seems that even if I choose the lower bpm, I can still add the intermediary beats on the map... should I use the higher bpm or the lower?

How do you make the notes switch sides (red/blue spawn on the correct side then switch before they get to you)

I'm about to watch this video but I need some serious help before I proceed. Every time I select my beatsaber install folder, it messes up my custom songs. If I choose /steam/.../.../beatsaber it creates a folder and the game ignores my current custom songs. So if I move my songs into the new folder, everything is fine. But what was the point of doing that?

Weird question for ya... Did you happen to march drum corps or do WGI?

lacking a few things. How do you test a song as you are making it? Is there a way to put it into the game and test it out as you go?

I wanted a map of a certain song, but I couldn't find one, so I have to make one... but im really bad at making patterns and rhythm.

Hi. So in some songs the barriers are different colors. I have the custom colors mod installed. If I have that installed, will it overwrite the barrier color in the map editor? Or is there a specific way to change barrier color within the map editor? Thanks.

With the mod, head into your settings and you can edit the colors of everything.

Hey Benny, you mention that you should always play test your maps. How can I test my map without uploading it to Beat Saver just yet? I don't want people to get their hands on it if it's not ready.

Place it in your Beat Saber > Custom Songs folder. It should then load in game.

You might have turned the volume down on Audacity by mistake - I did so too. To the left of the tracks you'll see two bars that you can move. Make sure they're both set to 0. This might not be the problem, I just happened to do this xP

How do I test my songs? I'm getting json files that aren't showing up in game. I think either a game or mod update changed some default directory names. Custom songs I download through mods are going into a "customlevels" folder in the "data" folder and mappers are creating a "customsongs" folder in the install directory.

@@VoraciousAvgeek In your beatsaber file there is something called "songeconverter" you drag and drop the folder onto this and it will automatically convert it

How do you change the speed at which the notes come on the board? Mine seem to show up very short timing, Would like to seem them fall on the map for a longer time period?

hey three questions, how do i remove the ticker from the audio when I am done, how do I turn the sound down on the slashing of the blocks while increasing the volume of the song itself, and how to I start the song quicker as the start offset isn't doing anything. thanks for all replies in advance!

I hit ctrl-click and selected a bunch, copied it, pasted it... but now I can't deselect them. When I copy something else it just copies it ALL. How do you deselect??

I don't have a Vive or Oculus so I can't play Beat Saber currently sadly :( But ever since I layed my eyes on this game I loved it, love watching people play through levels. When I went to a friends house he had got an Oculus for his birthday and I told him to get Beat Saber, he did and we played it all night, I absolutely loved it, it felt so fucking good to play and I didn't want to stop. Then about a week ago I came across your old mapping tutorial, I watched it and wanted to try it for myself but thought what's the point if I can't play test it so I decided not to. I was still interested in it so when I saw you were uploading another series I immediately started watching, a little glimmer of hope for me started appearing when I heard you talking about using the modding Discord to get other people to play test your levels. It'll suck not to play the levels myself but at least I can scratch the creative itch on me, I've always had a love for creating. So I'm gonna try and map at least one song and see how it goes, thanks for the helpful videos! (Sorry for long story haha)

As soon as you create the song, it shows up in your library in the game. Every time you save the map, it updates it in the game so you can test. It's only when you go through upload process that it becomes available for everyone to see.

How do we test our song on the Oculus quest without having to upload it?

In sidequest copy the song folder from mediocre mapper (without the autosave) into the sidequest song folder using the "open song folder" button. Then add your song to a pack and sync.

Hey Benny, I'm having an issue man. Mediocre Mapper wont actually load the song. Just gets stuck on loading and never progresses.

any laptop, you don't actually need VR to run the mapping software.

Yup. Delete that ".sm" file from your folder.

Hey uuhh... when I try to upload a map the BeatSaver website says the folder doesn't have the info.dat file. Even though there IS a info.dat file in the zipped folder. Any help?

I use keyboard keypad for note directions..

i came across something weird. When i let the song play in the editor its fine and on beat. when i play it ingame its like every note is half a second early

You're almost certainly using the in-editor "Start Offset" which is known to screw up audio alignment. Check out the Basic Audio page of the BSMG Mapping Wiki for info on how to sync your audio without using editor offset.

I can't upload my song because it says that my zip contains an illegal file.

Cannot even properly download Mediocre Mapper. Have tried looking in Discord, I'm stuck with the regular Beat Saber Editor and when I save my song info it saves that as a .json file. Also wont let me upload to Beatsaver because it says the Info file must be a .dat sile. I've attempted to rename the file and change from a .json to .dat file and re-zip the file, and it still says the .dat file is missing. I'm about to give up on this modding stuff because I can't even find reliable answers to questions when searching all over. :( If you have a minute, I know this post is old but hopefully, you can help.

You probably set the quality level of your song too high especially if its a long song, you can lower the quality when you export from audacity to lower the file size

when i try to upload it it says Beatmap does not contain info.dat file

every time i try to upload it keeps saying that it dosnt have a info.dat file but it in the folder i have already converted it from a json to a dat and im all out of i deas

SNIPERDUDE true, I was able to fix it by simply copying the original json file and pasting it, then changing the name to be .dat and it fixed it. Then I got fucked over by the website because it said that It i didn’t have a cover or that it couldnt find a cover. Fss

If you've watched the other videos, using Audacity should fix it. Hard to explain, check out the beginner videos for custom mapping

Can you go back and change the tempo without losing work?

I've not had luck with that. It leaves the notes spaced at the previous distance and only adjusts the BPM chart.

If you mean in-game, you need to increase your "Note Jump Speed"

why doesnt it link to part three, it just skips to four

had the same issue, you need to convert it using song converter github.com/lolPants/songe-converter/releases just drag and drop the file of your custom map onto the exe and it will convert it into the new format
