Beast - LEGO Animation
Фильм және анимация
Dr. Wilson has finally discovered something his has craved for years: a cure for cancer. But after a terrible accident, everything changes. Dr. Wilson's assistant is dead, and something horrible is on the loose. Only Inspector Bill Gristle and his skilled CSI team can solve the mystery and stop the creature known as the Beast.
This version of Beast is almost nothing like the original concept. I first thought up the idea of Beast in March of 2006. I had just heard about the new movie The Omen, and that it was going to be released on sixth day of sixth month of the sixth year of the new millennium, or 06/06/06. 666 is, of course, the Number of the Beast mentioned in the Book of Revelation. I thought it would be cool to release a quick brickfilm on 06/06/06 with a "beast" theme as a little joke. The original story this: on 06/06/06 a demonic creature rises from hell and the world ends. Original, huh?
The direction of this project quickly changed when the Brickfilms.com "Fame, Infamy and Glory" Contest was announced. I threw out the old story and began a new one. The basic premise was a retelling of the werewolf and Frankenstein stories with a modern twist. I tweaked the story several times to fit more in with the Fame, Infamy and Glory theme required by the contest, and I added the crime scene investigation theme as well. The end result was a massive 15-page script. I began filming the key scenes, but I quickly realised the project was too large and I wouldn't be able to complete it in time. I cut out two major subplots and half the characters. This left me with a managable film, albeit weakened and watered down. I finished filming, but I was struck with another roadblock when I began editing. Films submitted in the contest had to be ten minutes or shorter. I have over twelve minutes of footage. I grit my teeth and removed every excess shot, and cut words out of sentances to trim the dialogue down. Beast is the result. It's skeletal and diluted, but it had to be done.
I still have the original script, and all the voices, and I'm not going to reveal anything else, because eventually I'm going to make and release Beast: Director's Cut. I am not setting a deadline, and I'll work on it slowly, making each bit the best it can be. It might be released in 2007, it might be even 2008. But I have a feeling it's going to be a whopping half an hour long. So stay tuned. But don't hold your breath.

Spent 2 hours trying to find this video... It randomly came into my memory. I remember watching this video dozens of times many years ago when a young me was very into Legos. Great video, glad I found it and was able to rewatch it.

I love that he used an actual wolf-like model, rather than the boring werewolf head/body.

There's nothing "boring" about that.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who returned to watch this masterpiece . I remember I used to be crazy into lego stop motion films and bought alot of sets as a kid , and this inspired me alot
THE NOSTALGIA
Another one of the greats. Hard to believe this was 8 years ago. This was highly inspiring to me and many others I'm sure.

I fondly remember this video like the day I found it. I was obsessed with this brickfilm, so much so I spent one summer just trying to replicate Dr. Wilson's office/laboratory. You and Zach/MindGames were so ahead of the game and so ahead of everyone else in terms of animation and overall work like camera angles and motions that the minifigures make. Thank you Nathan for this classic masterpiece.
This video is incredibly nostalgic for me but also very underrated. When the mass majority of LEGO animation on KZread is either IP fanfilms, or goof jokes of some kind, Nathan Wells delivered an actually really emotional, suspenseful, horror film. it feels classical in the same way a universal film would.
Dude, I used to watch this when I was so little. Glad I remembered the title. This was truly a masterpiece.
Excellent! This would have been a great story in any medium- but the fact you did stop-motion animation to tell was even better. The legos did not detract from the mood of the story either. I also liked your use dissolves and the depth you obtained with the sets. It didn't look like you were working with a small amount of room.
How does this not have a million views at this point?
Watching this for the first time this year makes me appreciate what people did back than!

Still a masterpiece 16 years later!
classic
This was such a masterpiece, this was my actual first KZread video! I loved it, I was also wondering if you might ever make a remastered edition of this movie... if not, that's cool, still loved this!
This is really good for 2007
I remember watching this when it was new, and I was still a child. Unbelievable this is now more than 13 years old.
So that's what an anime flashback feels like...
Just found this brickfilm for the first time, always a treat to find classics like this
bro this takes me back
That was a great lego movie! 😊👍
I remember watching this film with my nieces back in 2008 and being blown away by it. :D
Your movies with a story are always your best.
It’s been years I watched this when I was young. Brings back good childhood memories

This might be one of my all time favorite brickfilms - AMAZING JOB!
Back when KZread was a more creative platform, in fact the more creative you were the more encouraging it was, we used to get rewarded for our creativity and our ideas, and now it's all about what's popular, reaction videos, gaming videos, and that's about it, Lego's become incredibly niche now but it used to be one of the best ways for people to show someone what they could come up with, and we respected it and liked it, how it changed to encouraging something so lazy nowadays is beyond me, but I'm giving let's plays a pass because those were around during this period and were also capable of telling us about the creator and their personality and ideas, that's something I miss and it's something that really doesn't exist anymore, this was a time when you worked with what you had and that brought the best out of us on a platform that used to support that kind of thing, nowadays the same ideas from before get buried on KZread now.

I think that KZread is still just as creative of a platform. But you're right, everything "good," original, and creatively budding (especially with Legos) is now very niche. Unfortunate, but it's nice to know that great videos like this still make their rounds! :)

I appreciate both of these comments very much, of course I agree in general but those thoughts also help me feel better about my art going by unnoticed - self-centred or not, I feel like we all share a very similar passion for this kind of work.
I must say the story and the script is very original for today's audience and i'm very impressed with this work. P.s. the beast in the end looked really cool.
this is a certified childhood classic
Pure epic brilliance. It's people like you, ZachMG, forrestfire101, and Keshen8 that I look up to. I shall forever love your four's videos.

This was my favorite video as a kid I had no channel back then and I finally after months of searching I found it again creator if you are reading this thank you
Holy crap! Awesome movie! The best Lego Start-Stop movie I've ever seen! Plus the fact that it wasn't just like 2 minutes. The scenes were very very well done and the sound effects helped with the atmosphere. (glass clanking) The voices were good, too. The background on the roof was the part I liked best. Keep up the great work!
i have to admit this is a cool lego movie.i wish that Nathan Wells made more lego scary movies like this but i wish they were longer but not that long just 3 or 4 or 5 parts long like lego halloween.

Great Animation, Great Set Building. Amazing Video. One of the greatest Lego Videos Ive seen yet..-K
Holy crap 13 years ago ... Childhood nostalgia
So young when I first saw this... I think this was my first taste of Lego stopmotion ever.
As i read your description, i totally agree that there are parts missing from the movie. I would have liked to see more investigation and more of the "beast out on the loose" All in all this is an excellent movie.
I first saw this animation years ago, and it still is a favorite. Yet I long to see the constuction of the beast to build it myself
really awesome! and the stop motion was really good too!
You did an amazing job!
I remember watching this when i was young, and i loved it. Going down memory lane.
I love the bit where the normal plate tips to different angles to make it look like its spinning

Probably the best stop motion I've seen
Extremely well made!

I can’t remember the last time I watched this but the thought of rewatching this old video was a little sense of nostalgia when I watched this video who knows when but it was a joy watching this video again

Like I've said before, one of my all-time favorites. Nice job.
