Beaming an undyed warp! It’s a little different for me.

That “part 1 of 2” is a link to another video. The other video is part one of a two part video. Having said that, I did post several loom shots and finished products from this warp earlier today.

Oh my! That is only 34 yards? How many thread? Is it 3-3-4 in the reed of the tension box?

I actually beamed up 50 yards! I just didn’t record all of the way to the end! Yes, 3-3-4 in the reed.

Ok five cones per shelf… five shelves , times the two cone racks. That is fifty threads and that little reed is about 3 inches long…. So about 16 threads per inch? Beaming 2 inch segments as 2 inch segments x2 and skip. 100 threads per 6 inches, so that is about 15 threads per inch in the reed as they come to the reed beyond the heddles. Hhmmmm. Looks like ten el and cottolin??? Do tell, what are you planning?!?!

So the rack holds 50 threads you are right. In addition to that I have two milk crates in front of the rack with 5 cones in each. So 60 ends. I have a little hack where I add 3” worth of yarn in a 2” section, which saves me time. The warp is mixed fibers of various weights and is 20epi. I chose an average EPI. I threaded the warp today and am ready to weave. This entire warp is pre-sold and will be turning into babywraps, ring slings and at least one shawl! I dyed most of the wefts today. The weaving starts on Monday. If you look at some of my other shorts, I often show the finished products. ❤️❤️❤️

@@Rebecca.Robbins Oh yes, I watch eagerly and have seen so many of your lucious outcomes. I will be eager to see the dyed weft, I usually see dyed warps, right? That is a great idea, I assume you tilt the 3" reed to fit into the 2" section of the warp beam. 20epi must be 8/2 tencel and some other stuff like cottilin and mercerized cotton and silks? But wont they have varying shrink rates? Yes, I am picking your brain as a novice weaver.... One project in the past I made a prayer shawl for a friend and added a stripe on each side of the warp using a rayon twist (not chenille) when the rest of the warp was some linen, I believe, and the mercerized cotton stretched more than the rest and was droopy. I ended up weighting the warp threads off the back of the loom with film cans of quarters, and then some metal washers on shower curtain rings. (had to edit spelling.)

I usually dye both warp and weft. You didn’t ask this, but my customers get to choose the weft colour / colours, the weave (from a panel, based on the threading) and the weft fiber. Plus things like fringe etc. I don’t actually tilt the reed, I just squeeze all of the ends into two inches. I said the wrong thing in my earlier comment. On the loom I sleyed the reed 3-3-4, but on the tension box I used a ten dent reed and sleyed it 3 per dent. I didn’t use any tencel or merc cotton this time, though I usually do with mixed warps! I used a lot of different rayon based yarns (like ginseng, Motherwort, dandelion) plus different cotton and cotton blends. They are all mixed together. I have never had a problem with tension when I do this. I hope that helps!
