Beachcombing New Jersey Shell Identification - Beach Combing N.J. for Seashells & Sand Dollars!!

Just in time for summer beachcombing!!
This is the video to watch for help identifying seashells found on South New Jersey beaches. We find a variety of shells in this video and try to identify them all. We don't have every type of shell you're going to find on the New Jersey Beaches, but we had a week of spring beachcombing and shelling and we found a great variety. We even found New Jersey sand dollars!

Hi Easter Azali! Thank you for the comment. We always seem to find something interesting when we are in Cape May, especially off season. Please check back again sometime soon. Thanks for watching - Paul

The remainder of the thing you called a marine animal, was a shore bird. The long pointed thing was it’s beak. I really liked this video, and I love the way you respect Mother Nature. I live in the Philly suburbs, and I use to visit Cape May on my vacations with my family throughout my youth. Keep up the good work!

Thank you Adele! Thanks for the identification and thanks very much for noticing that Mrs Shell Casing Kid & I are doing our best to walk softly and respect all the earth's creatures. Your comment made me very happy that you noticed! All the best to you from the Delaware County, PA - Paul

YES! I agree Green Eyes! We are especially fond of Cape May Point and spend time there every spring, but as far as I'm concerned anywhere on the New Jersey coast is a good place to visit and look for treasures on the beach. Thanks for watching - Paul

@@dirtsandandrocks I've found Cape May Diamonds and found a fossilized seahorse and other very odd fossils I can't ID, right by the lighthouse area. It the thrill of the hunt isn't it. It's so addicting, as well as rock hounding too.

@@20greeneyes20 The thrill of the hunt and the initial shock of an unusual find! That old WWII bunker on the beach by the lighthouse is crazy! AND the U-Boat spotting towers too!

I respect your care about the shells and the animals that can use them, but it’s a fallacy that there aren’t enough shells for the crabs.

That “angel wing” you found is actually what’s referred to as a fallen angel wing! Or as I call them (demon’s wing) They are closely related to false and true angel wings!

Oooh! I am so jealous. I live in the Jersey Shore as well and I couldn't even find a sand dollar and even a full whelk. I wish I was there as well. Do you have any suggestions of where to go shelling. I found only halves of whelks which I am so sad. Lucky you!

Hi Musical Jolly Chimp! Thanks for checking out my video. I too have never found a sand dollar in NJ, only Mrs Shell Casing Kid has. And now she knows exactly what too look for and when. For all kinds of shells we have luck at Cape May Point and 2 Mile Beach (between CM and Wildwood). We also like to shell off-season, which limits the amount of competition for the good finds. Try shelling a day or two after a storm if you can, interesting stuff usually shows up then. Finally, we like to look about an hour or two before dead low tide (ebb tide). I hope those tips help. Good luck - Paul

Your joy over glass bits is obvious. I personally find that sad... its "glass garbage"...

I understand how you feel, but when you compare sea glass to the other trash I take off of the beach - shot gun shells, styrofoam, feminine hygiene products, plastic bottles, fishing line/hooks, aluminum cans, beer bottles, car & boat parts, PLASTIC BAGS and all of the other detritus of modern living - I'd rather find the little pieces of glass that the ocean has rounded and shaped over the years. Thanks for watching - Paul
