Timing and Spacing for sure. My entire quads team is 6'2" and shorter. Starting further back from the net proves difficult to be patient and adapting to hit 3-5 feet off the net. Do these spacing tips apply to teams greater than doubles? We don't often face blockers at the net as we are not a hit threat normally, but your videos have improved our game! Keep up the good work!

I would say it is an important skill to learn no matter the number of people on the court. As long as your timing step is good than you should be able to get to any set. If you like hitting sets that are super tight then this idea will be tough to do. I think you will see your attacking increase if you start hitting sets a little off the net.

When I'm further back I have no choice but to create extra space. Pffft....this is such a great fix for me. I'm 6 feet and can cover a lot of ground, so when I pass and leave no room all I get is a one-two up. Amazing. Will work on this. Wow, love how your videos show such great real life examples btw. man, that's really difficult to pinpoint. in my case, +50yo, a beginner, playing mostly with younger but equally disastrous players, attacking is definitely the thing that I am dying for. but eventhough nowadays I can somehow hit the ball, I am still miles away from figuring out the process. to cut this short, everything is very much challenging. but after watching your video, I can say that timing and spacing is the thing that I have been doing wrong. it may not be that difficult but that is where I start messing up. by the way what you show about footwork, esp starting cool and slow is another thing that I should focus on. it should be fix timing and spacing as well. great teaching. thanks a lot

I have exactly the same problem. I remember this one time I played an indoor open gym, where the setter was bump-setting consistently to the same location but low every time. So the third time, I just estimated where she'll set and took off early, and it turned into a perfect set.

I love your videos. So well explained. As a self-taugh player, I very much appreciate them ;) It makes me learn new things that I can incorporate in my volleyball. Thanks I'll go with B. I think the things I need to improve is a mixed of the 3 honestly. I think I need to slow down my first 2 steps. I'm probably still going under my ball a bit too much to my liking. And the arm swing is something I discovered not too long ago that I have a lot of things to adjust to hit better my balls. I feel like I'm still playing decent, but I want to improve and play great ;) p.s. It took more than 1 second to answer 🤪

I feel like a lil bit of a,b, and c.😅 not all in the same swing but definitely notice being off on something hit to hit. How could one try to improve for consistency solo. I’m from Illinois and the weather doesn’t allow for outdoor volleyball. With COVID it’s tough to go to gyms/ indoor courts due to capacity restrictions. What would be a good way to practice these during the colder seasons? BTW I’ve made improvements on almost all other aspects of volleyball from you guys. I’d say setting was the most helpful. Thanks again. Love the content!😎

All of the above :D ... But mostly C. I feel almost all the time I am hitting with my wrist which means that the ball dropped lower than where it should have been contacted.

Probably B, whenever I do an approach for an attack, I tend to go at a steady pace. The fix at this video is going to help me a lot in my gamee!!

A,B, and C 😂 it doesn't help that the people I play with, including myself, aren't consistent setters but if I can implement the techniques you demonstrated (especially the timing/spacing) I think that will put me in a better position to hit those passes that aren't so great.

A, timing and spacing. I feel like the sand absorbs my jump and often I can’t hit the ball at a point that’s higher than the net.

A problem I have is that I’m going below the ball when I jump. In the air the ball is above me, not in front of me. When this happens most of the time the ball goes out of bounds when I hit. How to fix this? Maybe it’s about spacing from the net like u said.

Sounds like you are to early and waiting for the ball to come down to you. This is making the ball rebound off your hand instead of continuing it in a different direction, hope that makes sense. Try to work on your timing step and allowing your swing to feel like you are hitting on the way up with your jump. You also might be getting set to tight. Ask for the set around 3-4 feet/1meter.

    A. I think that has to do with the setting sometimes. Or people will ask where I want the ball set and I’m not sure what to say

We should definitely tell our setters where we want our set to be! I could see this being a good video! For now, I would suggest having your setter set in front of your passing location about 3 feet from the net.
