Really sharp for a 1960s' movie quality.

Not a bad war movie for 1967. I like the parrallels between the Americans/Japaneses civilian lives at 44:27. It reminds me of the parrallels made in the movies Flag OfOur Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima, even if the ones here feel outdated. Also Sgt Honeywell is played by Rip Torn, aka chief Zed in Men In Black.

22:55 key lesson was that when you fight, esp when it is not an all out assault as shown, a useful weapon is the grenade, since if it succeeds or not, your location is not usually revealed. Marines LRRP and combat doctrine as taught by a USMC LRRP 2 tour vet who returned and went to Columbia SC to train Army basic as Drill Sgt, because it was close to family

Ok for a low budget '60's war movie. The use of T-34's unarmed training planes for our "fly boys" to strafe the enemy was a bit of a stretch.

Interesting to see some scenes from the Japanese side instead of making them the usual no name, no story antagonist of the film.

Nice balance showing brutal results of war rather than hung-ho shoot-em-up,. Personal flashbacks were a little long...I liked being able to fast forward through them.

It was a great idea for a war film, showing the human side, it is a pity they just did not bother to get the period details right, usual can't be bothered american movie maker attitude.

The storyline is a lie. The Japanese never had any battles where they had a large unit of proud Japanese soldiers break the rules of war & wear American uniforms...COMPLETE FICTION.. This movie was horrible in its attention to detail and accuracy of real military actions. It was so fake and corny that it seemed to turn into a ridiculously painful comedy. The music was probably the most disturbing and obnoxious. This has to be the worst WW2 movie made of it's time. Anyone who watches this movie I pity for the insult to their intelligence,, suffering, and their loss of time they will never get back.
