She's got a great record collection. I was in High School in the 90's so it's flattering that someone as young as her seems to be immersed in the music from my youth. Her album was one of my favorites of 2020 and I can't wait to see what she does in the future.

Damn no wonder I like her music, Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr and Deftones are some of my absolute favourite bands.

Had me at Pavement, fell in love at Deftones.

SERIOUSLY I knew she was going to pull some Malkmus, but when Around the Fur came out, I lost it maaaaan.

She has a lot of influence from grunge and the rock bands of the late 80's and 90's and for a 45 years old like me it's not a bad thing. I like her songs, her style brings me back memories.

honestly makes total sense for her sound

really amazing how Elliot Smith has become one of the most enduring artistic voices for generation after generation. Great songwriting and great melody always endures and this is coming from someone who was in the "jazz" world for a while (i love jazz but I took a roundabout path to song driven music). While I appreciate a ton of music, I have really come around to the singular power of a singer with a great melody and a few chords, something eternally powerful about that.

Agreed with everything you said, but elliott smith is far from just a "few chords" he was an absolute genius on the acoustic, don't be fooled by it's simplicity.

Perhaps they extended the series out of necessity rather than simply wanting to expand to personal collections. It's not as if Amoeba is open for business and they can easily do their normal "What's in My Bag" in the store these days.

But the original purpose of the series, obviously, is to promote Amoeba Records, showing selections that these artists have picked up in the store.

One of my first gigs was Smashing Pumpkins and The Verve at Rock City in Nottingham, I was about 16 so it would have been 1993. I am very envious of the gig in December, say HI to her and her cool mum for me from little old England! :-)
