This song was played at my cousin’s funeral 17 days ago. He was only 14. As painful as it’s been since the accident, I find comfort in knowing that he is home in the Kingdom with our beloved Irish grandfather, and I will see him again someday. God’s grace allowed him to give 5 people a second chance at life. My cousin is a hero. I will love you forever.

I made my grandmother a promise on her deathbed. I promised her "Memere I promise you I will quit drinking". It was the last thing I ever said to my grandmother. One year and a month later I have not touched a drop of alcohol. I've worked like I've never worked before to keep that promise. I know she's watching and I know she guide's me through everyday. She's my guardian angel and I'll never forget that promise I made as long as I live.

My dear husband listened to this many times as he was dying of cancer. We joined hands and sang it as a family in his hospital room when Paul passed. The nurse at the Durham VA Hospital said they were deeply moved at the respect we showed our dead loved one. Too many families just scoot out of the room when the loved one takes their last breath.

In our family we are taught that the hearing is last sense to go. So when we lose a relative we spend time talking to them explaining that they have passed and not to worry but to go on when they are ready as Jesus is waiting for them. ❤

Reading through these comments I realize that the one constant is God. We all struggle and falter but He is always there if we seek Him. May God bless you and keep you.

@@robertmcnamara1642 Roman Catholics idolise the Pope and Hail Mary which is not meant to happen. Our main focus is Jesus and his word not anyone else's. Catholics weren't the true Christians or first as the Romans killed the actual Christians as entertainment as they were pagan. Do some research and you'll notice it yourself. Jesus has 1 church yes but be careful what one you believe to be the true or first as we are warned that many false prophets and teachers will rise in the last days...

@@lastdays8500 Maybe if you did some research you would realize the first protestant church was founded 1500 years after christ lived. Whereas the catholics trace their history back to first century CE. The Church and the organization of it are even biblical when we see the issue resolved by the early church about gentiles receiving circumstances. The statement you make at the very beginning where you say that Roman Catholics idolise the Pope is very vague. What do you mean by that? Do you mean admire, revere, or love greatly or excessively? Because by that definition of course but if you mean that we worship the pope that has got to be one of the stupidest things I have heard any protestant say. Mary did a lot more than what you credit her for doing. Don’t you think if you married someone you would want to get to know their mother? The Romans killed early christians sure but that doesn’t mean they killed all of them. Peter went on to establish the church in Antioch and then in Rome where he died. After that those who he appointed to lead the church appointed others to lead the church and so on. Now we are at today where very single priest has been appointed by someone that has been appointed by someone that has been appointed by someone and if you trace this succession of appointment all the way back to the beginning you can see the Jesus was the beginning of the line. This proves that the catholic church is the church Jesus spoke of when he said this “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” I entirely recognize that our main focus as christians is to listen to the word of Christ and follow the gospel. That is why we have The Pope in place, to enforce the gospel and prevent heresy from being spread. When you say that we shouldn’t listen to anyone elses word that is unbiblical as Christ tells Peter that “I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” in Mathew 16.

My mum'sfavourite hymn on her Wake, introduced to her by American missionary pastor . She wanted to be with her Lord after surgery and series of radiotherapy .Lord called her home after conversion from Bhuddism, Taoism and confusions. Praise The Lord for his abundance love and mercy❤❤❤❤❤

This song has a special meaning for me. My retinas were bleeding, and I thought I was going blind. I realized I would never be able to play music except for the classical things I had memorized. That’s when I learned to play by ear for the very first time in my life. I play this song now every time I sit down to the piano. My eyes healed, and I praise God above for eyes to see, ears to hear this beautiful version of a Celtic tune so dear. Thank you!

Do you know why your retinas bled? Same thing happened to me. The doctor acted like I was going to harm him in some way. Never found out why it happened.

@@marylove7153 My Eye Doctors were always worried about My pressures because they were so high upper 20's they were afraid that the high pressure would cause the capillary veins to rupture < They never did thank God however I did have other problems and after three surgeries on My right eye, it is now after 68 years My better eye ! but after the surgeries and in the recovery, time I had a lot of time to practice, but it went a lot better after I discovered that not ALL of the notes were dotted :-) it took several weeks for the floaters to stop so I could read the music properly. Both of My Eye's are stabilized and at 20/20 in My Right Eye and 20/25 in My left Eye. just at My last Eye exam, They told Me that they were no ;longer worried about the pressures and that they are ok now.! God Bless. Kevin

One time, maybe six years ago I had hit bottom, I believed in nothing except a bottle of whisky, But I would pass a cowboy church twice a day and for some reason it drew me. One night I lay in my bed staring at the ceiling and hoping for the sleep that wouldn't come. For some reason I said, "Hello God, You don't know me, I'm a sinner! Don't know how long I confessed my sins to others and myself and asked for his forgiveness but I got the best night sleep I'd had since I was a kid. The next Sunday I was in the cowboy church and began attending. Then came that day I went up to pray and felt an arm come around my shoulder and I knew Jesus had accepted me. I first heard this sometime after I spoke to God and it seems to fit me and what God and Jesus have done for me. God Bless

My sincere condolences to you for your loss. I see that it has been almost a year and I pray that you well. It is no easy think to lose your Mother, you never think of them gone. My Mum went to be with the Lord in May 1997 and I still ache for her like it was yesterday but I do know one day we will be together again. God be with you ♥

I was saved from a very aggressive cancer because, when I was going to put off seeing the Doc, God sent a presence into my room during the night to warn me not to wait. I called the doc next morning, and through many operations and chemo, I am now 10yrs cancer free. Praise His Holy Name!

Thank you , this was sung at my wife's service last November and I'm weeping as I watch this. She was piped into our church with Amazing Grace and piped to Heaven with Going Home. It was a very comforting service, this was one of her favourite hymns, she also loved Abide with me and Breathe on me, Breath of God. We were married for over 40 years and I miss her so much. Lost my mother in summer 2020 too and had Be thou my vision at her funeral. A great help on dark days.

It's 2024 and it's amazing how God touched the lives of these people who are battling with something only Him can ever heal. When I'll turn 60, I'll come back to this song and remember all the goodness God has ever done in my life, just like all these people here.

Ten years ago today I lost my beloved husband. I'll never get over it, but I still go on. This song gives me hope that someday I'll be with him once again. Praise the LORD that I've found this hymn to be a comfort to me. I'll love you always hon and I think of you daily with the love you had/have for me. Love always and be Blessed. 🙏📿🙏📿🙏

This is done exceptionally well. The only thing that I missed was the third verse. I don’t quite understand why the warfare is being removed from our hymns today. Hymns were written as a story and to take one verse out changes the whole story. I would love to see a remake of this song with the third verse included as seen below. 3 Be thou my battle shield, my sword for the fight. Amen. I so agree. Many hymns tell the whole of the Gospel; eliminating verses cuts off the whole truth of the Victory that the Lamb will bring.

When I first heard this hymn at boarding school in the 50’s I was only about 11 years old. I remember the deep and sudden emotional reaction that I had to it, especially the last verse “Whatever befall, still be my Vision oh Ruler of all”. I never knew then what might ‘befall’ me then, but His promise came through loud and clear, that He would be with me - and He still is now I am 76 and counting.

I am an Orthodox christian, but I very often listen to this song. It gives me such hope. Jesus Christ is the only Way and Life and I cannot even imagine my life without Him. Jesus is the only hope in nowadays, when world’s going crazy.

I have read studies about an aminoacid called L-glutamine having helped many who are recovering from alcoholism. It can be bought at any health store and it's not expensive. I would suggest researching it and then buying the pills. May God help you, guide you and bless you ❤️

More than sixty years ago my teacher, Mr Smythe, wanted to include this beautiful hymn in school assembly. Nobody wanted to sing a solo. He knew I had a good reading voice, and asked me to read the words. They have been with me ever since. When I visited my daughter's church in the UK, before COVID-19 struck, the musicians played and sang the hymn beautifully. At the end of the service one of the leaders came and sat next to me and asked, "Why are you crying Steve?" I told him how much the words meant to me, they are a gospel in miniature, and then he asked me to tell the whole church. I can't help but cry every time I hear the hymn. Jesus is everything to those who believe on His name.

I used to sing this at Vespers with the monks when I was in college. It still makes me cry.

I have sent two before God, and I pray every day that I can obey and trust in him more clearly, every day

This hymn was actually written by a Saint and martyr! He is St. Dallan Forgaill, a poet born on 530 A.D. One of my favorite hymns 😍😍😍

Poor, poor you, Richard Came across this today - Father's day. I never had a son, but do have a daughter. We may want to insist that "we had it tough", but the young generations have a lot to contend with. The world is upisde down, but at least it is made crystal clear to us. I want it to be to different, and I KNOW the way is Jesus. And in the meantime the Holy Spirit is ceaseless and determined and innovative in reaching us ... including through music.

God be with you during the days of your loss, which never end, so I have seen.

I was driving in a rainstorm, and I couldn't see at all. I complained about it to God (I was praying the Rosary at the time, in the car, on the interstate), and this song popped in my head. I laughed out loud, and I got home safely. God was my vision that day.

I have been playing this particular song since getting pregnant and today when I played it for our little guy he is big enough now to hear it and respond! Little movements right near where I'm holding the speaker. Truly amazing how God works.

This song reminds me about my wife. It was her favorite song before she lost the battling to cancer, I wish I could change the hands of time, I miss her smiles, she was always there for me and our lovely daughter, and I never miss a moment with her, life could be so unfair most times, there is some pain, I will cry in vain but won’t let you know how I will feel yes, I will miss you to the core! but some times i wonder why bad thing always happen to good people. I miss singing old hymns in church. I go to a more modern church now. I love it and it's where God wants me for now, but something about the old hymns will NEVER leave my heart or lips. Praises to God, the King of all Kings🙏

This is the most beautiful hymn I have ever heard.

It is comforting that music can minister to any condition and elicit an emotional response. It has the power to purge, for our individual good. Across oceans, creeds, ethnicities and faiths. The words, oh, how I love God's WORD. I only came across this song from today's devotional reading in Our Daily Bread for Oct 4, 2021. Inspiringly, beautiful; indeed.
