My pleasure :D .. There are only 3 families that actually settled here and were all related. We often have Hmong families that came here to study for a few years and go back after completed.

Juliana I appreciate if you or anyone can answer some of these questions for me. 1. Are the Hmong in New Zealand new Hmong from Thailand...you know those last wave of Hmong refugees...or have Hmong always lived in New Zealand since the 1970s and 1980s like the Hmong in the United States and France? I just didn’t know that New Zealand took in Hmong refugees like Australia. 2. Are the Hmong in New Zealand originally from Australia? For some reasons I’ve always heard that New Zealand is a much better place to live if you’re Asian...meaning less racism. 3. From the dialects of the Hmong there it seems like some of those Hmong were China or Northern Vietnam...not the kind of Hmoob people that first went overseas to the United States and France. 4. What do Hmong do for a living in New Zealand? Do they farm? Do they have Hmong professionals such as teachers, doctors, lawyers, politicians, etc. just like we do in the United States? These are just a few of the questions that I’d greatly appreciated if you or anyone can answer it. New Zealand from what I heard and saw on videos seems like not only a most beautiful country but the people are so open-minded and friendly. From what I heard New Zealand is the best country dealing with Covid-19 due to its most competent and great leader in Jacinda Ardern, unlike our Orange Monkey 🐒 here in the United States. New Zealand is definitely a place I want to visit in the future even if there are no Hmong living there at all.

Hi Neng Mua, I can try my best to answer your questions as much as I can remember. 1. There used to be lots of Hmong families came to NZ as refugees status during the war but they didn't like it here so all moved to Australia after 3 - 5 years. Then in late 2006, one family got sent to NZ from Thailand and have been here ever since. Few years later, they tried to get more relative families to come here and finally two more families able to come in 2016 (10 years later). 2. No, They were originally from Vietnam and still know how to speak Vietnamese too. However, they had to go to Thailand to declare themselves as refugees in order to get the paperwork done before they can migrate to another countries. With the racism, NZ is pretty good country to live in but we still have racism which aren't that bad compare to other countries. 3. Yeah, they were originally from Northern Vietnam and they are Green Hmong. I'm guessing that you guys are White Hmong right? 4. Because of such a small families here, they weren't able to do anything big. Beside, the families that came in 2016 have lots of young kids under 18 so most of them are at school for now. However, the family that came here in 2006, they are pretty successful of running their own businesses. The Father is a professional painter and carpenter. The 1st son is mechanic and in the process of opening his workshop. The 2nd son is an Electrician who own a business for almost 2 years now. The 3rd son is owning a lawn moving and gardening service himself too. If you can find a chance to visit us here then we will more than welcome you. We are always excited to meet new Hmoob people because we don't usually see much. It's pretty quiet country but surely have a lot of beautiful and nature scenery here. Let us know when you come so we can pick you up from the airport :) ... I hope those answers are what you want to know.
