Alright dyzee, i will start with two things, one i really have a lot of respect to you personally , in 2003 the only vhs i had of bboying was lord of the floor and u and ur girlfriend at the time for me were a big inspiration, you are one of the most original bboys, and many , including very popular bboys are using your material today , some not even knowing it, and of course hats off to u dyzee, the battle demo video, you responding to all those guys was gold, it's so rare nowadays.. now, i know you are very open minded guy, so i am going to give you a different analysis and point of view, since i don't share the same vision about some of the things you said. i am not sure about "responding" as a viable battle strategy nowadays, it worked in the 80's because there were so few moves and directions in bboying, not possible nowadays, and it's ineffective against original or very powerful bboys, you can't respond to "pocket"s power just like you can't respond to cheerito's unique style, or neguin's capoera acrobatics, the best bet is to put "your stuff" against "his stuff", hit an angle that he didn't hit, exploit the moment , the particular situation, put more on the table than him, or simply be much more better than him, your stuff against his. Now when it comes to what to work on , i think it's simple, one has to be aware of his strength and limits, if you are 6 feets 4 , chances you aren't ever going to be the best powermover in the world, are you weak, are you flexible, shy, naturally creative? once you figure that out, it's time to develop a bboy "persona" by incorporating the many elements of bboying as much as you can (style, power, footwork, battle, musicality, and dance in general..) while staying true to yourself and your vision, if you don't like a certain element, drop it, pocket made it to the semi final with only power in his aresenal, and menno won the 2014 bc one without doing a single flare, it is not necessary to be able to respond to everything. not being able to respond to a certain move , element, or aspect and working on it for me is a not fruitful, there are millions of moves, directions, concepts, elements, so it's not really possible to learn it all, but most importantly , it takes away time from developing your own persona, own original style and original signature moves, there is so little time , and it passes quickly, yet so much to learn, i am in favor of the opposite, don't spend time battling other bboys until you become a "persona" , spending time in your garage alone will much more fruitful, and you will get a lot more done, there is no fear of crashing, of looking stupid , no time wasting chatting, laughing, no showing off, only hard work and sweating. I'ts cool to be able to respond in a cypher, but in a high level competition, responding can give you points but the true FOCUS should "winning" not "responding" , i believe you WIN when you become someone who has mastered the foundation and different elements of bboying but also become an original bboy who's shadow can be recognizable behind a curtain, there is so much to say , i'd love to chat with you some time, but i didn't want to pass this opportunity and not say hi to someone who inspired me in my beginnings. Peace.

+amine messai Hey whatsup. Thanks for your comment, really appreciate it. I just want to make something clear. Nowhere in here did I talk about competitions... what so ever. Competitions is something completely totally different. I'm merely talking about the first original essence and perspective of breakin before all these other perspectives came into play. These are the reasons why we were able to find our own style, this is how I found my own style. I tried everything and eventually came to the style i wanted to pursue. This was only a way to know what you need to work on until you got it good, ready for competitions. In competitions, i only throw out things that I think is worthy to represent me and my style. But it doesn't mean i'm not practicing everything, and the only way for me to find motivation to practice the little things, is to cypher spar. And in a cypher, if you don't respond or one up, i think your not really cyphering. Your just dancing in a circle. Once again, competitions, HIGH and LOW, or not real battles. They are contests to win the opinion of the judges (which is sad but true)... however I'm not discrediting the importance of competitions, they are vital to our cultures sustainability

dyzee you are one of the bboys out there that has mastered his own unique style. not sure if i'm able to describe it properly, but there's little outside influence in your style and it's very hard to replicate your style. you've taken your own style of bboying to a very high level. in my opinion bboying and dancing is an art form, it has to do with self expression and personal style not about how difficult or flashy the moves are. i think this is the most important thing in bboying. it's kinda like how bboy menno gets a lot of hate that his moves are easy and he's just rolling around on the floor. but when i watch him dance i see that he does everything in his own style, very difficult to be replicated. i saw you once at pho hoa in scarborough, toronto lol, but i didn't know it was you back then. wish i said hi. much respect and keep doing what you're doing man.
