That is a good idea. I am German, and the German Television used to play the national anthem on television at the end of the day since 1985, but stopped it to play a couple of years ago. God save the Queen and Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit (Unity and Justice and Freedom)

I saw some videos of the Bayern state TV closing down with the state anthem of Bayern and the German one. In Spain it was done till 2001 in the national TV. Pity that we never did it in Catalonia with our public tv. Basque Country and Galicia both did it.

Too right, you had gentlemen announcers and news readers, unlike now. My family always stood when this was playing and Tyne Tees always ended the day's programmes with the national anthem

I reckon some well spoken chap, as was the BBC then, would have announced the end of the day's programmes. Some ITV companies did the same.

@taaqen apparently this logo was used from 1969 until 1974. Up until the mid-80's the same design was used but a different colour.

I wish this was our anthem.

It's actually God Save The Queen.

Better than the later globe with more class

The rotating globe on a mercantor style projection didn't start until the late 70's. In 1973 it was just the globe on its own if I remember correctly.

This version of the National Anthem is a right dirge... thankfully the BBC introduced a rendition with a bit more gusto soon after this.

My family always stood for this. Working class Tories through and through- god bless Maggie who let us buy our council houses.

Allowing the people to own the means of production, get dividends off corporate profits and have a democratic voting right in company policy through share ownership was a marvellous idea. Pity the majority of the cattle didn't understand, and sold their shares back to the very people they claim to hate for a minor profit in an artificially boosted market within a few short years.

It's bloody freezing in Pres tonight and the miners have gone on strike.

Actually, Mark, it is the sombre and sad version. I heard this slower version in a clip here on KZread from when BBC1 signed off it's schedule in 1997 on the night Princess Diana died. =S

Used When Unikitty Network Closed Down From 1947-1967.

Diana, Princess of Wales, sings the slow national anthem of God Save The Queen for the death of Wallis Simpson on 24th April 1986. The lyrics that she sung to Wallis Simpson are "God save our gracious queen. Long live our noble queen. God Save The Queen. Send her victorious, happy and glorious, long to reign over us. God Save The Queen." 6 years after the death of Wallis Simpson, Princess Diana died. The slow God Save The Queen played when Princess Diana died.

I like this one much better, than the newer faster one, I find the newer faster one, a bit cringe-worthy.
