Michael Jayston is the best audiobook narrator ever. He's a gem at accents. A one man band at his best.

Just finished the book. What a superb adaptation this is. Better story than the Roald Dahl screenplay...although that is itself brilliant.

I completely agree. It's actually one of my top 3 favorite Bond novels.

The book is definitely a fine read but it never would have worked in the film. That was the most travelogue heavy Bond, there wasn't too much action. Still, it's a shame we never got a proper Blofeld trilogy and finale.

@ricardocantoral7672 Yeah can you imagine 60s era Bond pulling that ending? It could work as a movie but not in the franchise they were building at the time. I'd see something like Hannibal once they get to the Garden of Death- really grissly yet artsy imagery of the deaths Bond witnesses there. That being said the film did include a lot from the book: Henderson, Tanaka, sumo, Bond marrying a villager, Bond sneaking w/ninja tactics, the Japanese travel log aspect, Bond "dying", though all under completely different contexts.

It's wild that the BBC did all the major novels except Casino Royale

The strange thing was that they had a chance to do it in 2006, but the movie came out.

Michael Jayston played Quiller in the BBC TV series of the same name in 1975. Last time I checked it was all on You Tube.

Cringeworthy caricatures of Japanese and Aussies. Jayston totally miscast here and as for Clive Merrison 's attempt at a Japanese accent !?!? Difficult to believe this was actually a BBC production. Presumably meant as revenge for Pearl Harbour..?
