I always wonder what would have happened if Neighbours had still been on the BBC during the Covid 19 Pandemic and they'd unexpectedly had Downing Street Press Conferences in the 5PM to 6PM slot.

I imagine it would either move to BBC Two or the evening showing would go entirely, something that would be much "easier" to do in the BBC iPlayer age. Of course, we know Channel 5 rationed episodes with the show having stopped production in Australia. It's highly likely the BBC would have followed suit.

I guess that makes sense. I agree that iPlayer would have made such scheduling decisions that much easier than in the past. Remember one of the last daily press conferences when the government didn't really have anything to say, the questions asked were all about unrelated topics and the whole thing was done by 1730 in time for Neighbours.

Thanks for uploading this Have got a few other episodes of Neighbours surrounding this one with either news footage (as here) or the end of a random programme before the start of the episode. Also have an episode taped from a lunchtime screening and it has a bumper at the end suggesting CBBC that afternoon would be on BBC2. Did they reserve BBC1 for Gulf War news coverage but maybe slot on something else if a news report wasn't needed?

What was the schedule change for BBC "TWO" looked like on that same day when the war broke out? Crimewatch UK temporarily aired right after the Mary Whitehouse Experience on that night.

Seems the Neighbours theme tune had had enough of waiting for the announcer to finish at 1:38!

They continuity announcer had run through the revised schedule too slow, that BBC One play out had to get Neighbours on air, otherwise it would not have finished on time before the Six O'Clock News.

@@mrhammadmossop1988ul-haq Yes, network control was where the network feed of BBC One and BBC Two were fed to all the regional centres of the BBC.

@@johnking5174 Am I correct to say that the director in BBC network control gave the instructions to all the regional centres of the BBC and he or she told the regions when to opt-out of the network for their regional promo then when to rejoin the network in time for the national news?

Looking back it felt very OTT, especially for 1991. When the Queen died, they could just throw stuff on iPlayer.

Fast forward to 2020 and it was the most watched show of the year, and looks like it will be again in 2021.
